Backroom Tom Posted January 10, 2010 Backroom Posted January 10, 2010 Yep it's the way forward for Rovers, buy a few cheap youngsters with potential, if one comes good it potentially sets us up for the near future with the benefit of him in the team then potentially setting up our next big purchase. There has to be a balance though

Hughesy Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I wouldn't mind Gudjohnsen provided we felt we could genuinely get three or four years out of him. Which for a player of his considerable talent, touch and inteligence is possible if he looks after himself and we find him the right role. Think though that £2m fee + 3 years of wages on say £50k, would mean he would cost us £10m - thats a big risk for a player who has failed to have an impact at Monaco.
American Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 We need a combination of youth and experience. One thing I like about Eidur is that he can play both striker and midfield, which makes him more valuable.
Hughesy Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 When has he bossed a game from midfield? Or been the creative spark a team needs?!
AJW Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 can anybody argue the idea of gudjohnsen and kalinic in tandem isnt mouth-watering
broadsword Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Gudjohnson, wages are too high and I wonder about his motivation. Too high risk and I can't see him coming.
Miker Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I think we need a fairly big name signing to come here and Gudjohnsen would do the trick nicely. If we secured him and then got a few more promising youngsters in similar to N'zonzi then it will be a good window.
Silencio Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 When has he bossed a game from midfield? Or been the creative spark a team needs?! Last time he played against us for Chelsea at Ewood...
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 News of World Article about Slory http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/662306/ROVERS-LEADING-SLORY-CHASE.html To our German League experts - who is this guy? http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/sport/667581/ROVERS-KEEP-TABS-ON-LITTLE-KNOWN-ARI-Allardyce-leaving-no-stone-unturned-in-player-hunt.html
John Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Sam Allardyce reckons it's getting harder and harder for clubs like Blackburn to compete with the Premier League's big guns in the transfer market. Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is lining up a £1.5m deal for Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley.
Ricky Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I dont think Cardiff will accept it. I know they are in financial difficulties but surely if they wait until the end of the season Tribunal will award them more than that for him. They can point to the fact that they rejected 6m for him 18 months ago. Also with their current promotion push he's probably worth more to them if he can push them into the prem and leave at the end of the season. Good player but not sure we'll get him.

I was thinking the same thing Ricky, and, even if we did agree a fee of 1.5M, there's no way we would be the only interested party at that price.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Ledley was being talked about in the £10 million bracket at the beginning of the season was he not? Anyway if a player of his supposed ability is available for £1.5 mill I cannot see us getting anything like the money we are supposed to be asking for MGP!
philipl Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I thought Ledley was 26- in which case he is a summer Bosman.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I thought Ledley was 26- in which case he is a summer Bosman. Which is why Cardiff trying to cash in as he is not signing a new contract.
Amo Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Which is why Cardiff trying to cash in as he is not signing a new contract. Perhaps we could throw a player into the bargain? Robertsinho perhaps?
Ricky Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 22 according to the mirror and Cardiff City's website. Thats where the tribunal would come into it.
Crank Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Perhaps we could throw a player into the bargain? Robertsinho perhaps? Was thinking the same Toppers. Perhaps even Pedersinho
67splitscreen Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Ledley born 21/01/1987. He was in demand in the summer, with both Stoke and Everton (nicko's article) bidding circa 6m for him, Brown was also watching him in the close season. Everton went on to buy the Russian ballerina LM for 10m, that should put their interest to bed It may well be that Ledley will not be in such great demand this window and as others have mentioned he is out of contract in the summer, will cardiff risk losing him for nothing at the risk of missing promotion?????. If the links are true then 1.5m sounds about right for an opening bid, can't beat a bit of bartering, and a PX would be even better. He played this weekend so I doubt any move is even close.
petter_rovers Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I remember in the WC - qualifiers, Eidur played "in the hole" against Norway, and he totally dominated the game. No one was even close to his level, at least for 70 minutes, until he tired. There is no doubt he could do the same for us, although the wages and his fitness COULD be a problem. I'm undecided, but will support a bid for him if we could get him for 2- 3 mill and below 50K in wages...
Hughesy Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 When has a tribunal ever got a club a large amount of money? Would be great it if true - but cant see it!
Amo Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 I don't know if this was already posted but Sam Allardyce has disclosed that "Benni and Jason or someone like that..." would have to move on before we could sign Beattie and "Unfortunately our four strikers haven't scored the goals needed for us." Sounds a bit harsh including Kalinic in that, but there you go.

Allardyce criticising his players in the press is becoming an issue, why doesnt he just shut his big gob, get on with it and sort it out.
joey_big_nose Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is lining up a £1.5m deal for Cardiff midfielder Joe Ledley. From the Mirror. Nicko - you must have a view about how plausible this is? It does seem we are busy at the moment!
