A number of things annoy me too:

  • People not reading the situation as its happening (like if your turning, and someone is coming out - flash them and let them go whilst you turn in).
  • Slow people at lights
  • Old People & women
  • 2nd lane drivers on the motorway
  • Pot-holes!

I think everyone should have to re-test every 5 years, that way I bet 30% of all drivers wouldnt be on the roads, making it much easier for those that can actually drive!!

Be careful what you wish for. Even those who think they are excellent drivers can develop hard-to-break habits. It would be a constant battle to try and not to do certain things in your re-test. I'd probably have more chance of failing a driving test now than I did when I first took it! And I think most people would be in the same boat.

I class myself as a good driver, however I went on a speed awareness course (I know... good driver and speed awareness course don't actually go together) and was amazed at what bad habits I had picked up over the years. The outing around Leyland with an advanced driving instructor was worth every penny of the £80 it cost me for the course.

If anybody does have the option of the speed awareness course instead of receiving points I would highly recommend it, that's if you are willing to learn and willing to get involved. If you are the sort who can't respect authority or admit your in the wrong don't bother!

A re-test would be a good idea I think, possibly every 15yrs.

I flip the bird slow down and rage at them.

I love people like you on the road, I laugh at them, they get even more wound up!

Subsitute drivers under 30 for old drivers and women and you have it. That's why my wife and I only pay £200 a year fully comp. on a new Avensis.

Ah. the joys of driving. Where everyone in front of you is a semi-senile tortoise and everyone behind you is a speeding maniac.

Taxi drivers though, black cab & private hire. Do they have to have the Highway Code removed in a lobotomy-like operation before they can be given taxi licences?

Test yourself

here

68 for me,& I used to be in the traffic signs business

be honest

I got 77, not bad for a taxi driver ;)

That doesnt make you better drivers though...Its just a case that insurance companies give you cheaper insurance based on age & experience. Its the way of the world but doesnt make you a better driver for it.

One of my worst habits as a driver is to never give way to anyone unless I have to.

Mind you, I used to at first but the amount of people that don't acknowledge the fact you have just done them a favour annoys the life out of me, so I decided not to give way to anyone unless I have to. Try it, you'll get home much quicker ;)

I got 87 and thought it was quite easy. Actually quite embarrassed about the ones I got wrong!

I got 87 as well ... I wonder if we both got the same 5 wrong?!

o-014.gifo-019.gif were two of the ones which tripped me up and they were on technicalities really ...

I could argue mine were technicalities but if it's wrong it's wrong. There's no room for technicalities when your doing 95mph round a blind bend in a bus lane approaching a level crossing in the fog is there?

lol ... but it's ok, you can push your bike there ...

Back to the original question ...

1) Nissan Micras

2) Junction 21A on the M6 Southbound in the morning

3) The driving test centre being by the M65 junction for Darwen

4) People who drive at 20-25mph in 30 zones

5) 107.9p a litre

When your keeping or maintaining a safe distance between yourself and the vehicle in front, doing 70mph on the motorway, and someone decides to nip into that space, boy did this pee me off yesterday on the motorway.

My other gripe is with the motor industry, why sell cars that can travel at more than 70mph. These vehicles should be outlawed.

76.

One behind a taxi driver and I haven't even taken my practical test yet. Theory test obviously works (for how long, I dunno).

To obtain a taxi licence you actually have to re-take your practical test, & to a higher standard than people who are just learning. That`s why i brushed up on my highway code last year.

On a similar note (but off at a tangent) we went on a works doo up to the lakes the other year. On the mini bus was a lad who was just about to take his theory test. As we passed a road sign (red circle with red cross on blue background) he chirped up "what does that sign mean?"

The entire bus (13 seasoned drivers) all looked flummoxed  until somebody said "nevermind Gaz, you don`t need to know that one"

The bus erupted into embarrassed laughter, as we all realised we didn`t know what it meant

Blue&whiterover...."One of my worst habits as a driver is to never give way to anyone unless I have to."

I tend to look at the person wanting to pull out first. If they reach my acceptable criteria, i let them out!!

If they fall into a catagory of people/persons i don`t like, i ignore them & drive on.

It`s one of the few pleasures of driving for a living i have ;)

North of Birmingham - I'm very polite and tend to let people out (as long as it's not a Micra or 4x4)

South of Birmingham - not a chance.

London (inside the M25) - fight them all.

Just avoid eye contact with everyone, that's what I do, they can swear all they like at me but I'm not bothered B)

Lorries turning into narrow streets always annoy you!

i'm amazed that all my pet hates have been mentioned. Just a few to re-iterate:-

Red brake lights in standing traffic.

Female drivers who have no chivalry or manners whatsoever.(not all of you ladies, of course)

Being in a slow moving queue of traffic with nothing coming the other way and flashing a right-turning car to come in front of me and they are away with the fairies; in a world of their own.(often female  )

I get tremendous satisfaction from what I call "Defensive driving" Always look to avoid an accident. When the @#/? shoots past then brakes and cuts in, pull back and allow him in. Pure satisfaction. Try it.

That magic roundabout in Swindon; the main centre island looks to have traffic going round it anticlockwise. Am I right?
