I just hope they do something on that road before there are other fatalities.

The problem with this road is the idiots who speed along it - I'm not suggesting your colleague was such as I don't know about the case. I understand it's an exciting road to drive and can be done at speed but it's also very dangerous. Combine this with the d!ckheads on motor bikes using the Winter Hill road as a TT practice and you have a lethal combination. All down to the drivers.

All ok - abit battered n bruised but we will survive thats the main thing.

Just gutted I wrote my A3 off that was only 3rd FT!! Oh well!

Sorry to hear about the crash, hope your all o.k.

What on earth are you doing going 3rd Party? I didn't think anyone bother with that these days!

Assholes who come off the slip road and cut right accoss the road into the fast lane causing everyone to break when they are not up to speed and doing about 50mph!

Oh and idiots who like to tail you with full beam and fog lights on.

And while i'm here, people who don't indicate to turn left at the junction your waiting at ready to pull out of. If the muppet sent a brain wave down to his index finger to push the indicator lever, I wouldn't of had to sit the on idle for the rest of time!

I had to for my first year of insurance, and it was still expensive at £1300,, seriously dont know how they get away with that.

I had 6 years experience of roads on a motorbike, didnt count at all even though the road sense I have gained made the transition to car very easy.

And I had a claim on my bike from having one stolen, if I told them about that it was 3k!!!!

£1300 3rd party? What on earth where you driving?

Saying that, if I needed to insure a car of my own I'd probably pay through the nose now as I've been driving company cars for the last few years.

Not so though you do have to jump through some hoops to get the NCB transferred. Basically you would need a letter from your employer's insurers stating you, as an individaul, have not been responsible for any claims in the last "x" years.

There is so much bad driving on the road these days it's difficult to know where to start.

Undertaking is very much on the increase and has to be one of the most potentially lethal manouevres on the motorway.

The offenders are the usual company car types in BMWs or Audis who drive up the inside and then squeeze in to the fast lane just to get past 3 or 4 cars.

Dangerous, stupid and selfish, but then you wouldn't expect anything less from those sort of people.

We've had this discussion with you before magoo.... despite being frequently told the safe way to drive on a motorway you still appear totally unable to grasp the basics.

http://www.driving-test-success.com/driving-articles/driving-motorways.htm

Pay attention to paragraphs 3-6 inclusive (below) and learn the stupidity and danger of your driving.

"Motorways have three lanes - the left-hand lane, the middle lane and the outer lane.

You should stay in the left-hand lane unless you need to overtake slower moving traffic. To do this you should use the middle lane. If you need to overtake several vehicles then stay in the middle lane. There is no need to weave in and out of the left-hand lane as you overtake individual vehicles.

You should only use the outer lane to overtake slower moving vehicles when the left-hand and middle lanes are occupied with slower moving traffic.

When in either the middle or outer lanes you must be prepared to move over, to the left or middle lanes, to let faster moving vehicles pass."

Dear Mr Company Car Driver and BMW driver,

I am perfectly aware of the driving laws on the motorway thank you.

Perhaps I didn't make myself clear.

I am talking about the drivers who, when traffic is already travelling at the legal limit (and more), see a chance to nip up the inside when a gap appears in the middle lane and then move back into the fast lane, risking the possibliity of causing an accident by colliding with cars in the outside lane who might (legally) be trying to move inside.

No doubt you are familiar with this illegal manouevre.

Try £2400 :o That`s what i paid last year & that`s with 5yrs no claims!!! I managed to get it dropped by £400 this year.

It should not be possible to undertake if driving rules are followed correctly.

The real scourge of the motorway is not company car drivers, or in fact any category. It is simply people who set up stall in any given lane and sit at their constant 65 mph. Some take the hint when you approach in the "slow lane", double lane to the outside and then back in front of them - others are too busy doing their make up, or hair, or whatever.

the sooner Motorway driving is taught and then tested prior to driving the better.

Cheers for that Paul. Good to know I've earned a few years no claims.

Correct. We used to have an advert on BBC 1 every night advising people to travel in the correct lane but it's not been on for decades (Jims like the chap with the birds twittering inside his head btw). Imo the police are quite happy for this sort of driving to continue. I guess it slows traffic down and could produce another income stream.

I drove through Spain a few years ago and the police there were really hot on. I saw GB vehicles pulled over more than once for hogging the outside lane and others forcibly moved inside. Compare that to here and a few weeks ago I followed a plain silver Ford with two coppers in it down the outside lane which actually slowed down from 85-90 to 70-75 in an obvious attempt to frustrate drivers and encourage them to undertake. Beats working for a living I guess. <_<

So much anger.

If you drive like you write I think you may be Boy Racing Public enemy No 1. Do you have a big fat exhaust pipe, lots of speakers in your car and listen to black rap with the windows down by any chance andrew?

im quite calm, but the thread is supposed to be about road annoyances so thats what annoys me. you are well off the mark, im not a car person, nor do i care about them i have a car for practicality and efficency reasons only

I think you mean "people on bikes" rather than cyclists. I can promise you the vast majority of cyclists will very likely be insured, are unlikely to break rules and there is no reason why we should be taxed for such a low impact activity.

you use the road dont you? you should be taxed , and be subject to an MOT of sorts, as for insurance, im aware of no cyclist that has specific 'bike ' insurance the same way i have car insurance ( more for accidents as opposed to theft).

A lot of cyclists, just go on the pavement say if the traffic lights dont suit them, pavements are unless laned for pedestrian

also for fitness and leisure fair enough, but cycling to work with your neon polythene and lycra flapping about and stinking of sweat at work is just so people know you cycle.

ill run you over next time
