& a black thing over her normal clothing. I was quite taken aback by the sudden change of appearance. She went on to say her husband would 'kill her' if he saw her out without the burkha on & getting out of a 'white taxi'.

That cannot be racist can it? Surely not...... cos one loopy half of this board is convinced that racism only works one way.

If it's not racist then it can only mean that you had better change your car cletus and get ared or blue one. White cars show the dirt too easily anyway.

.....on a slightly similar note, i had an asian woman get into my taxi only last week. She was dressed quite normal. When we arrived at her destination she asked me not to park directly outside the house but stop on the corner. She then asked "if i could see her face?" When i looked around, she had put on a black full face veil & a black thing over her normal clothing. I was quite taken aback by the sudden change of appearance. She went on to say her husband would 'kill her' if he saw her out without the burkha on & getting out of a 'white taxi'.

I thought the full face burkha was supposed to be a garment of choice by muslim women? This woman was obviously under strict instructions to wear it in public.

I didn`t mind though. In her haste to get out of the car & not be seen, she gave me a £20 note & said "keep the change" before hurrying off :tu:

A girl who used to work with us was like that. She left the house in all her robes and whatever, however she got changed in the car, stuck a tight pair of pants on, low cut top and a load of slap. She then took it all off and got back into her robes/ burka (whatever) and then went home.

I'm not sure this is the thread in which to debate the subject so I'm limiting this to answering the question raised. In Blackburn, and I would presume it applies elsewhere, some women are subjugated * by their husbands / families in many ways. For example women may be prevented from learning English, this presumes they are immigrants, in order to limit the possibility of them being in contact with our Western society. There are men who wield sufficient power over their wives to force them to dress as required, prevent them from leaving the house alone etc. This is a serious issue within the community and certainly gives force to the arguement there are Muslims who simply do not wish to integrate with our culture / society and are prepared to impose their own view on their immediate family especially wives / daughters.

The dress code can also be a free choice on the woman's part. In this instance I'd presume she is making the choice for religious reasons or in respect for her husband and the general belief's of Muslim society. There are also women, generally young I believe, who wear the veil more as fashion accessory or statement than anything else. I know older women, both Muslim and non-Muslim who are infuriated by this action.

* I'm not sure subjugate is quite the right word, I'm thinking of controlled etc.

Aren't you the person who raised the question? No one else did.

That seems the case Paul, though I'm sure some Muslim women do choose that lifestlye, it is undeniable that many are forced to adopt such practices, in 21st century Europe I despair at such a situation.

Kind of related, I was in an off licence in Blackburn a month or so ago and I saw two Asian lads I recognosed from my college days, they were in full Islamic dress buying booze, the hypocrisy of the situation meant I had to comment.

I asked 'what would Allah make of this?'

One replied:

'Allah loves me whatever I do, as long as our women don't do it'

That statement annoyed me on that many levels, I had to leave, quickly.

Just got back from Ringway.... Have we had people driving with headlights on full beam on the motorway? Bad whether they are coming at you or in todays example up behind you? :angry2:

In similar fashion what the hell possesses people to drive with just sidelights on after dark? I suspect they think they are saving money which is rather worrying.
