unluckymorton Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Who's Lee Mack? Local lad? Any footage of him anywhere!? I'm told he went to QEGS, then moved on to Southport then to London to further his career. Did you see the Friday night sit com 'Not Going Out' earlier this year? He wrote and starred in that, He's also on 'A Night at the Apollo' on BBC & Dave.My link Hope the link works, if not just go on Youtube.

bellamy11 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Who's Lee Mack? Local lad? Any footage of him anywhere!? Seems to be getting on the telly a lot more these days. Has hosted Live at the Apollo on a few occasions. He's had a really good rep on the comedy circuit for a good few years now, so good to see him getting a bit more success. I think he has had a DVD or two out for a while now so that could be pretty cheap by now. Well worth checking out.

I'm told he went to QEGS too (it may have been me that told you), but I went back there to see a couple of mates. Lee Mack doesn't have his potrait in the foyer of the dining hall like James Beattie, Nick Dougherty and that bloke on Channel4 news do. I'm wondering if I've been told an untruth......TO WIKI!! Wiki: Born in southport, moved to Blackburn and didn't go to QEGS.....awwww, gutted.
Backroom Tom Posted November 24, 2009 Backroom Posted November 24, 2009 How`d he manage that when the maximum was eight? ME and two others tried from 11am but didnt get through once on the website and once on the phones and that was having 1 laptop going and 3 phones... No idea mate, not sure if he got some and his wife got the others, he text me at about quarter past 8 saying he had them all though. Didn't get floor seats though. Row M in lower tier.

Clitherover Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I want to see Sean Locke, corny as hell but he cracks me up. Sean Lock's one of the best british comedians at the moment imo (anyone remember 15 storeys high on bbc3), would love to see him live, also Jason Manford cracks me up believe he was at King Georges not so long ago.
Anti-Dingle-Brigade Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Jason Manford and Lee Mack are both funny guys. I think Peter Kay is one of the best but he hasn't been producing anything new for a few years so he's dropped off a bit.
mellison24 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 You may have told me? do I know you??? He was born in Blackburn and then moved to Southport. I just seem to remember having mentioned the QEGS thing over here at some point. But either way, I too did think he had gone to QEGS. And just quickly, I'm not sure if Peter Kay would have any new material? He seems a little repetitive, although I must say his charity projects have all been awesome (namely amarillo, 500miles and the recent children in need melody).

No worries pal, you had me worried that maybe I actually knew you and you'd worked out who I was in the real world....

Jason Manford went into Blakeys for half an hour after the gig at King George's chatting and having his picture taken with folk.

I heard an interview with Peter Kay who said his material would all be new - as he had not toured for 7 years and lots of things had happened during that time - more than enough for him to write material. I would certainly expect new material after such a build up to a new 'tour'

Rover95 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I think what makes him so successful is his ability to relate to the general public - talking about tv, kids, shopping, families etc is stuff most people can relate to. He also seems like a geniune bloke imo. A friend of mine went to school with him and says he was just the same at school. Had the class in stitches all the time apparently.
bob fleming Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I'm with you there Abbey. My mate has got us tickets to see Lee Mack at King Georges next year. I think it's in April. I'd much rather see Lee Mack than Peter Kay, the top of the tower and bungalow tours were fantastic, but I'm a bit bored of him now. Lee Mack DVD For the price of a pint. Absolute quality. Good to hear he has some dingles gags as well!
LeChuck Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I think what makes him so successful is his ability to relate to the general public - talking about tv, kids, shopping, families etc That is also what makes him disliked by a lot of people too though. His material is so simple. It's all about the delivery for him, if you were to write down what he's actually saying and read it back it wouldn't even raise a smile. I loved Phoenix Nights but he's been gradually irritating me more and more since then, I can't stand him now. I quite like Lee Mack in small doses, although I must admit I've never seen one of his own shows, it's always been on things like Live at The Apollo. He's good on panel shows whenever I've seen him. I'll check out the DVD in Bob's post to make a fairer judgement, comedians always use their weaker material on those sorts of shows. I think Tim Vine is my favourite comedian at the moment, his relentless one-line wordplay jokes are brilliant. I think he'd appeal to a few people on here who enjoy the threads that descend into puns. "One armed butlers - they can take it but they can't dish it out". Brilliant.
eddiewac Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I used to like Peter Kay and then I bought all of his stand up dvds, all 3 had exactly the same material, so think I'll watch this one on one of the dvds he brings out

bob fleming Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Oh dear, this from the man with no sense of humour what so ever. I'd pipe down if I were you. You can't even get in the squad at the moment.
unluckymorton Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I'd pipe down if I were you. You can't even get in the squad at the moment. Ha, your just a pale Benni McCarthy.

In that case, you should check out Stewart francis. Also a one-liner comedian, also hilarious. Tim Vine is indeed awesome. (I believe he is in a BBC series with Lee Mack also? But I couldn't confirm that).
Backroom Tom Posted November 28, 2009 Backroom Posted November 28, 2009 After watching Jonathon Ross tonight I'm looking forward to the tour considerably less, he seems like a parody of himself and surprise surprise he's adding more dates and venues.
