Friend of mine bought some tickets for one of the Liverpool shows for her parents Christmas present. She was really pleased until the tickets arrived and realised the gig is April 2011. So Mr Kay and his representatives will have the use of this money for 17 months before having to deliver a show, personally I'd say he's taking the p!ss on this one. She's now buying something else and keeping the tickets for Christmas 2010 biggrin.gif

Little doubt he's been very funny in the past but what I have seen of late has been very repetitive and lacking originality, though I suppose one could argue all succesful comedians follow a formua, Michael McIntyre and Dave Allen to name just two who are generations apart.

Yeah I was going to get tickets to the last manchester shows until I spotted they are not until Sept 2011!!! 18 months after his tour started! Surely it will be out on DVD by then?!

850,000 tickets expected to be sold at around an average of £40 a ticket - £3.4m!!

To be fair Paul this isn't just a Peter Kay thing, I think it is becoming more common. About 6 weeks ago I got tickets for Frankie Boyle for November 2010, and next week I'm going to watch Sound of Music and I've had those tickets since last December.

Don't miss next xmas, Peter Kay - Tour that doesn't tour DVD

Don't miss xmas 2011 - Peter Kay - Tour that doesn't tour unseen DVD

Xmas 2012 Peter Kay - OK I'll admit it I'm a massive sellout but you will by this DVD anyway even though it's the same one thats been out for 2 years in a different case.

Does anybody know if Sean Locke is coming anywhere near here soon?

I've bought tickets 6 months ahead but never longer though I guess if the promoters put them on sale we will all be pushed that way if we want to buy from official channels. TBH if tickets to see Springsteen in2012 went on sale today I'd buy them!

Thought Mr Kay was good on the One Show last night, though we did turn over for Corrie at 7.30pm!! biggrin.gif

Surely that should be Keith Andrewse's fault?

Anyhow, maybe someone has mentioned on here the rather odd situation of shelling out £40 or whatever to see Peter Kay at the MEN when all you'll get to see is this figure in the far, far distance and actually watch him perform via a big telly screen.

Just wait a few months & buy the DVD. Save the time & travel money. Lend the DVD to your mates. If you want to get the authentic live experience watch your telly from outside your house and throw money down the drain. Pound coins drop down best.

Or am I missing something here?

I think Tim Vine is my favourite comedian at the moment, his relentless one-line wordplay jokes are brilliant. I think he'd appeal to a few people on here who enjoy the threads that descend into puns.

"One armed butlers - they can take it but they can't dish it out". Brilliant.

He was great on Live at the Apollo on Friday night (it's available on the iPlayer now).

"Maybe I should tell you a little bit about myself. I'm a very shy and secretive person. Thats about it really."

Possibly colin, possibly. We went to see Michael MacIntyre at the same venue, MEN Arena a few weeks ago. It wasn't until we arrived that what you describe occurred to me. Having said that MacIntyre seemed very aware of the possibility of it being more like a DVD show and his performance more than overcame this. It was quite intimate and while we obviously knew we were in an arena it didn't feel this way.

Contrast this with seeing Fleetwood Mac at the same arena a week later. It was awful and we might just as well have bought the DVD and a take-away. I would have expected a rock band to have no difficulty with this but FM certainly did.

I think it's completely down to the performer. Whether Peter Kay can achieve the intimate atmosphere remains to be seen, it could be difficult to achieve for 20+ nights.

  • 4 months later...

Saw Peter Kay about 4 weeks ago on a warm up gig at the Pyramid in Warrington.

Was front row, but even the back seats were only yards back. Very good, but given that, not sure I really want to go to Liverpool next April to listen from miles back.

Seemed to repeat "botox, ball wax,(nnnn)... everybodys talking about pop music" a lot. (I cant remember the third word)

Just got back - Superb night & superb act.

Rick Astley opened it and gave a good 30 mins to the crowd, getting them up for a laugh.....VERY funny, some cracking new stuff, and very, very little old stuff thrown in too. Had most people in stiches or tears of laughter......also very good ending from Peter Kay too!

Ste B - He mentioned 'Wax Sack, Crack etc' once tonight.

He also used the 'biggot' comment to his advantage.

Wont give too much away as others will be going soon - & dont want to wreck the dvd for you!

Went tonight thought it was good but not great. For a brand new show it somehow seemed rehashed and tired for the most part.

I was laughing through most of it which is good but rarely laughing as much as I have in the past with him. The ending was great though if a little predictable. Rick astley was great as well.

All in all a good night but peter has been surpassed by younger and fresher comedians. The problem is his style is so recognisable thar after two previous tours even new stuff seems like we've seen it before.
