The Rover of Finland Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 A pal of mine has asked for a list of the 40 best ever rovers players to list on his NUFC blog. Link Here Its a good read and he would welcome any banter about the dingles!! (I think he has already listed Shearer!!) A huge dilemma. Shearer is of course number one but is the second Kuqi or Enckelman?

tcj_jones Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 A few musts: Shearer, Hendry, Friedel, Tugay. For me, Bellamy was also one of the best players I've ever witnessed in the blue and white.
mellison24 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 TUGAY!!! Tony Parkes. The Faz. Kevin Gally. The whole title winning team, basically. Crompton. Douglas. Clayton. There are many who deserve a place in that list. Maybe even Sparky at a push (or a rhino gore). But I'd put Amoruso, Gresko, Ostenstad in there for a laugh.
mhead Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Shearer is not number one! My memory says ...Bob Crompton,Jimmy Forrest, Dougie, Ronnie Clayton and then Big Al, Our Col and then 34 others including Mike England, especially Tony Field and someone called S---- G----r.Plus by now the 3 Jewels,Herring,Le Saux. That's 14 quickly. Need to go back to the Alltime great team of 3 ? years ago.
Stuart Ripley Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 gotta be mr. corrado grabbi or kevin davies

Duncan McKenzie must be in there for me and Noel Brotherston - two amazing footballers
Hughesy Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Sherwood, Wilcox, Ripley, Shearer, Sutton, Slater, Mimms, Flowers, Friedel, Tugay, Bellamy, Hendry, Savage, RSC, Benni, Samba Garner, Clayton, Douglas, Bentley, Berg, Batty, Le Saux, Newell, Kevin Gallacher.... Thats 24 who should all be in the best 40
MeanGreenMachine Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 I will throw in a name David Thompson Thommo deserved to be in the England side with some of his performances down the right and through the middle. Fantastic shot on him too, sadly his career cut short and hampered by his injuries but still one of my favourite rovers.
bellamy11 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Sherwood, Wilcox, Ripley, Shearer, Sutton, Slater, Mimms, Flowers, Friedel, Tugay, Bellamy, Hendry, Savage, RSC, Benni, Samba Garner, Clayton, Douglas, Bentley, Berg, Batty, Le Saux, Newell, Kevin Gallacher.... Thats 24 who should all be in the best 40 Think Robbie Slater has got to be pushing it! Almost impossible to come up with a list like this because it will have such a modern bias. We need some of the oldies to come on here and wax lyrical about players from yesteryear. Where's JimMK2 with Bill Eckersley?
Hughesy Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Ok how about best 40 PREM players for Rovers.........
Alan75 Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Some Hard Work done by Den to compile Rovers Greatest - Click
snatchymcsnatch Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Missing a big one, especially for NUFC..... Speeeeeeeeeeedie.
broadsword Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Chrissy Price :-) Glenn Keeley Archibald Ardiles
Claytons Left Boot Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Tony Field, John Bailey, Kevin Hird, Noel Brotherston, Terry Gennoe, Roger Jones, Scott Sallars, Derek Fazackerley, Stuart Metcalfe, Glen Keeley, Simon Garner, plenty from the 95 title winners, including Shearer, Sutton, Newell, Ripley, Sherwood, Berg, Flowers, and plenty from the late 50s & early 60s including, Clayton, Douglas, Vernon, McEvoy, Pickering, McAleod (sp?), Eckersley, Briggs, Leyland, Woods..........any of the first 11 would make it into the current squad.
Blue n White Rover Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Bohinen should be in the top 40 Lars Bohinen, one of my favourite players at the club during his time. Graham Fenton
Tris Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Where's JimMK2 with Bill Eckersley? jim's been sent to sit on the naughty step not sure if Bill is with him though, probably not ...
RovertheHill Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 You can't ignore Garner, Shearer and Hendry. But my personal favourite players have been Batty, Flitcroft, Bohinen, Jansen and my all time favourite - Tugay!
broadsword Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Tugay has to make it. A modern-day legend.
nowthen Posted November 20, 2009 Posted November 20, 2009 Maybe not all time top 40 but I always enjoyed watching Lee Richardson spraying it around in the second division. The kind of player who always had a bit of natural quailty in the lower leagues even if he never really progressed.
