joey_big_nose Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 It's a pretty shocking state of affairs when 4 teams reserves are better than 70% of the other sides first Xis in the league. It is this more than any other thing which has ruined English Football. If you go back even just ten years this would never have been remotely the case. It is outrageous and makes a complete mockery of the idea of competition. If we signed any of the players from the Chelsea v Bolton team they would be our standout player. Same goes for Wigan, Bolton, Hull etc. Something needs to be done about it, it is a complete joke.

It's just that our benefactor has now sadly past away. Although he was a true Rovers fan he wouldn't have been able to throw money about like this lot do. Look at Whelan at Wigan, a multi millionaire who can't compete.

Although he was a true Rovers fan he wouldn't have been able to throw money about like this lot do. Look at Whelan at Wigan, a multi millionaire who can't compete. If Jack was still here....his family would be FAR more wealthy in todays market, he was a very clever business man...we would still be up their competing, no doubt about it! Just a shame his Family isnt as clever or as kind! As for the game - If Chelsea rest Terry, Lampard, Anelka & Drogba then I believe we have an excellent chance. Iv just got a mad feeling we can do it...and then for some reason we will get Villa in the Semi's.

Don't be daft, player for player we were not that much better than the rest in the Prem in 95, apart from the imperious Shearer and Sutton. Dalglish got the team to work well together brilliantly. Quite a few of our key players like Ripley, Sherwood, Wilcox etc, never even really got in the England team! If we had picked XI second string players and packed them off to an away tie at a midtable side, say Sheffield Wednesday, we would not expect to win easily. Far far from it. The embarassment of riches at the big four and increasingly Man City is a modern phenomenon which is murdering any notion of a level playing field.
only2garners Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 No TV broadcast? Yep, there's a big one between the Riverside and the Darwen end and lots of smaller ones on the concourse.
bob fleming Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 No TV broadcast? Corries on and Keith Andrews is an extra in The Rovers. I'm going to Ewood instead now.
BRFC1995 Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 chelsea 5 rovers 1 more confident of chelsea getting 5 than i am of us getting 1, do our usual concede within 10 minutes and have the game be all but over as a competition for the next 80 minutes. Roll on the next league game
Ozz Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Corries on and Keith Andrews is an extra in The Rovers. I'm going to Ewood instead now. Very good Bob! Question is, if you could take a win tonight, or a win on Saturday, which would you go for?
ABBEY Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 No TV broadcast? grrr all the pubs here are showing arse grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ...tinnies and wifi grrrrrrrrrrrrr
LeChuck Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Question is, if you could take a win tonight, or a win on Saturday, which would you go for? Tonight 100%. I think we're destined for some sort of mid-table obscurity this season (somewhere between 9th-14th), a two legged cup semi-final would really spice up our season.
Ozz Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 A Win tonight puts in the semis, with United, Villa and probably Arsenal to beat over two legs just to get to the final?
Mr. E Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Thing is Joey, we've already been there and done that. It's just that our benefactor has now sadly past away. Although he was a true Rovers fan he wouldn't have been able to throw money about like this lot do. Look at Whelan at Wigan, a multi millionaire who can't compete. I wasn't aware we bought top established international stars and filled our entire squad with multi-million pound talent... Compare us more to Aston Villa and Spurs these last couple of seasons, not Chelski and Man City.
Tris Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 A Win tonight puts in the semis, with United, Villa and probably Arsenal to beat over two legs just to get to the final? Yeah oz, but it would lift the mood. I just hope we go for it tonight, and whatever happens, don't feel tomorrow morning like we've been let down. Nothing to lose - everything to gain!!!!!
broadsword Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Very good Bob! Question is, if you could take a win tonight, or a win on Saturday, which would you go for? Both.
Tris Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 We'll see. I think it's a bit slack of you not to have popped up the M1+M6 to see for yourself!
ABBEY Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 tris if i could i would...didnt get out of course until 5.15 tho. gutted.
only2garners Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 tris if i could i would...didnt get out of course until 5.15 tho. gutted. Where's your commitment? Train from East Croydon to Gatwick, hop on a shuttle, hire a car at Manchester - sorted! No doubt there are a few Chelsea fans doing something similar - you might even have blagged a lift from Manchester!
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Question is, if you could take a win tonight, or a win on Saturday, which would you go for? Win on Saturday. I'm not as convinced as some on here that everything is rosy and we won't get embroiled in the battle for survival.
Steve Moss Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 tris theres no chance of us going for it. I think Sam and MacDonald are samrt enough to go for it. This isn't like a league game where we are satisfied with a point. We win or we lose (and a draw counts as a loss). Simple.
Backroom Tom Posted December 2, 2009 Backroom Posted December 2, 2009 Exactly, there is nothing to lose tonight, may as well get beat 5-0 to 2-0, we should just go for it and see what happens. Will be severely disappointed if we don't go out to win it as a gameplan of sitting back and hoping to nick one on a set piece is suicide against teams like this.

Alex Rover Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Think we're going for it. Team is: Robinson, Salgado, Samba, Nelsen, Chimbonda, Emerton, Nzonzi. Pederson, McCarthy, Kalinic, Roberts. Subs: Brown, Givet, Grella, Diouf, vanHeerden, Hoillet, Jones.
