What's wrong with getting in the mood you miserable beggar? Christmas is from Dec 1st until 5th Jan!!

Is it? That seems to be more than 12 days.

I'm not especially religious, and there's nothing I want in terms of presents. It'll be nice just to have some time off.

I object to it being shoved down my throat. Argos were doing ads for Christmas last month.

I don't get how people who aren't religious get so into it. It seems like a festival of excessive, conspicuous consumption in the main, and the drive for it gets earlier (or seems to) every year. I say it every year, but next year I'm definitely going away, need to get away from it, it sends me slightly demented.

didnt have you as one of the rishton chavs lol.

Ha ha, I'm not, we've just moved our lounge into the back room so we trimmed up whilst doing it, two jobs in one.

All very discreet not like some of the houses in Rishton we don't have anything outside.

1. Those who are religious enjoy it for the obvious reasons.

2. Anybody who has little kiddies in the family or has close friends with little kiddies will get into it for it's being magic.

3. Atheists enjoy it because it is the notion of 'getting and giving presents or money'.

4. Many are simply big kids, who want to enjoy it as much as possible because it is a magical time of year.

I'm in 2 and 4. The reason I said 1st december until 5th January is to account for Advent and 12 days of Xmas. Many people I know consider Advent either PART of christmas or love it because it's the build-up to christmas. I understand that some people dont feel this way and indeed, I resent having seen a DFS xmas couch advert in october, before halloween. Christmas is over-commercialised, but I love it because it makes so many people happy. If nothing else, try remembering being about 7 and trying to stay awake for santa, only to fall asleep and wake up to a shedload of *ahem* surprises. Put yourself in that frame of mind and you can't help but love christmas, or even the whole of winter.

Not a dig at you Bryan, promise. Just explaining why I feel the need to get in the spirit of it all.

I'm not religious (but have no truck with those who are), I'm an uncle to two small children who sadly I don't see very often (but I appreciate it when I do), I'm not a materialistic atheist (not that you have to be materialistic to be an atheist), and I might be a big kid, but not one who likes Christmas.

I can't get into the spirit of Christmas because:-

a) It was a religious fetsival now hi-jacked by capitalism, and I refuse to join the orgy of consumerism;

B) I bloody hate this time of year, the nights getting darker progressively earlier gets me down;

c) I like getting outdoors and doing stuff, not being stuck inside eating far too much, being given stuff you don't want and watching rubbish telly surrounded by relatives who drive you nuts

I have no problems with other people getting into it, but I refuse to be jollied along with it, that's what annoys me. you can't force people to enjoy stuff they don't like, they tend to get a bit peeved.

Once upon a time I really liked Christmas, I guess I just got older and more cynical.

I bloody hate Christmas. This year up to now it has cost me £1200 in presents etc. and I will probably get two pairs of socks and a sweater I will never wear.

Roll on January and two weeks in the Caribbean!

Edit. As you can see I hate it twice as much as I thought.

I look forward to Hughesy telling us that he spends £1200 a minute on his girlfriend. Oh sorry that was last year...

We take two weeks off at Christmas, this year the 18th December to 4th January which is 17 days with no work concerns. All the family will be home at various times, we'll see a lot of friends at several parties, we'll be watching Spurs (H), Wigan (A), Sunderland (H) and Villa (A), if the weather is half decent I'll be out on my bike. There'll be some nice food and hopefully a decent glass of wine.

All in all it's a good time of year but like others I don't agree with the mass consumerism and almost competitive need some have to prove how generous they are. I also don't enjoy the over-indulgence and we try to buy "extra" quality rather than quantity on the food an drink front.

Why is the Boxing Game Rovers game always a crap one..????. The downside to Xmas is usually the works do .As you get older you begin to feel like David Brent at the Works Xmas do and every seems to kop off except you ..Nowadays the only Xmas goodwill you get back from mere touch of a female member of staff at the Xmas do will be a Sod off and a claim for harrsament..... Other than that Xmas is ok..
