Hughesy Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I look forward to Hughesy telling us that he spends £1200 a minute on his girlfriend. Oh sorry that was last year... Give it a rest will you, people ask what we got etc and I get slated for it......Sorry for speaking. As a special treat he asked if they could go up on the moors and have a roll in the car ........... Sick!

colin Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 I can't get into the spirit of Christmas because:- a) It was a religious fetsival now hi-jacked by capitalism, and I refuse to join the orgy of consumerism; I bloody hate this time of year, the nights getting darker progressively earlier gets me down; c) I like getting outdoors and doing stuff, not being stuck inside eating far too much, being given stuff you don't want and watching rubbish telly surrounded by relatives who drive you nuts I have no problems with other people getting into it, but I refuse to be jollied along with it, that's what annoys me. you can't force people to enjoy stuff they don't like, they tend to get a bit peeved. Once upon a time I really liked Christmas, I guess I just got older and more cynical. You've got it there in one. I'm of the same opinion. Glad that there is someone else who feels the same way. Get over 5th November and let's sell Christams stuff. 26th December and the holiday adverts start. Soon after that easter eggs And so it goes on and on................ You can take Christmas and shove it.
philipl Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 I still dont even know which country I will be in for Christmas!
tcj_jones Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 When I was younger, I used to love Christmas. Now I'm a few years older and I actually kinda dread it. I spend Christmas with just my mum, brother and nan. My nan has a form of dementia and drives me up the wall (and we've never been overly close anyway); my mum has an extremely hectic and stressful life, yet always goes to great efforts to make Christmas good for the rest of us; and my brother has absolutely no tact and, if he's not happy or not having a great time, he'll project that onto everyone. This time of year also tends to bring back bad memories for me. So, I feel as though a lot falls on me to be spirited and make sure that my mum is happy, despite the fact that I'm generally quite fragile. I hate the idea of being almost forced to act overly happy and encouraged to eat / drink to excess because of a religious belief that I do not personally subscribe to / a holiday designed to make money. I also tend to find that having less hours of sunlight definitely affects my mood and the cold makes the things I enjoy doing less enjoyable. Oh, and I cannot stand hearing the same rubbish Christmas songs every year, especially when you go to Tesco and hear the same one twice in the 15 minutes you were there!

The day is what YOU make it, not the people around you. Accentuate the positives or feel sorry for yourself - it's your choice !
mellison24 Posted December 15, 2009 Author Posted December 15, 2009 FFS, cheer up. The day is what YOU make it, not the people around you. Accentuate the positives or feel sorry for yourself - it's your choice ! For me it's a case of seeing my wee cousins smiling like cheshire cats over a fully signed rovers shirt each (hopefully). Got them via Anthony Pilkington (the Huddersfield winger) who has remained a mate of Neil McDonald since his days in the Bolton academy. He knows my friend's cousin's mechanic. Anybody else have a tedious link to a footballer? Xmas is also about a magical day with the family and a night in with the missus, after the rellies leave at about 9ish
Hughesy Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Anthony Pilkington went to my school and was in a year or two younger than me. Fair play to the lad! Link through the missus who is best mates with Reid's missus.
Rovermatt Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 I usually like Christmas but I'm f**king miserable this year. My full-time post-grad course has ended, I'm stuck in my firm from now until the end of August, it's dark all the time and I screwed up with the girl of my dreams who now won't speak to me face to face to dispel the horrifying awkwardness between us. Ideally I'd like a time-travelling De Lorean for Christmas.
brian_gallagher85 Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Ideally I'd like a time-travelling De Lorean for Christmas. There must be one or two lying around Belfast somewhere surely?

I'm not feeling sorry for myself and I'm going to enjoy the time as much as possible, I just dread this time of year for those reasons.
speeeeeeedie Posted December 15, 2009 Posted December 15, 2009 Christmas in the UK is ace. I live in the US and it pales in comaprison. All the commercialism bashers would really hate it here. To appease different religious factions it's called "the holidays" and begins the day after Thanksgiving (last Thursday in November) and continues past the new year. To top all that they don't have Boxing Day. No matter what is going on Christmas is always the same; the music, mad Friday, Christmas dinner, football matches, bad TV, not leaving the house for days and getting fed up, people trying too hard to have a good time, nobody getting any work done. Wonderful.
RibbleValleyRover Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Well its the 22nd December only 3 days until Christmas day. I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous new year.
Paul Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 With another three inches of snow last night it's an absolute certainty we will have a white Christmas. How do the bookies define a white Christmas, as I've heard mention it might not be a white Christmas? Woke up yesterday morning to enough snow to make everything look very beautiful. Wandered up to the garage to get the wife's car out and came across two deer on the lane. I must have been stood 10 metres from them. They seemed a little out of their safety zone. Beautiful animals and in the setting of a quiet, snow covered lane it was quite magical. Must have spent 2-3 minutes looking at each other before they decided to move on. PS - I'm still on the look out for a couple of CDs - Yusuf Islam's Roadsinger and Ray Davies - the Kinks Choral Collection. Can't track these down anywhere. Ideas please? Needs to be deliverable by the 24th!! I don't really know any good CD retailers in the local area
tcj_jones Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 That sounds amazing, Paul! Being at home writing essays at the moment, I'm quite enjoying the snow. However, it's causing absolute havoc for commuters in and out of London. I've heard stories of it taking people five hours or more to get home, when it would normally take about 45 minutes! If only you'd have mentioned the CDs earlier! Play.com have both, but it's too late for delivery. HMV say that the second one will be delivered before Christmas, but the first one won't. CDWOW also have them, but I don't think they'll deliver before Christmas, unfortunately.

Failing that, iTunes? http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/the-kinks-choral-collection/id343750686 £7.99 http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/roadsinger-to-warm-you-through/id315455493 £5.99
Paul Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 That sounds amazing, Paul! It was amazing, at one point I felt I was looking at two alien creatures, it was very strange in a way. So timid and uncertain about what they should do. tcj and Jisty thanks for the suggestions on the CDs.

I think it's got to fall on the roof of Booths to be one in Chorley.
