JAL Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 But if we lose on Saturday to Hull, how many of you will be saying the same thing? Definitely not, the weaknesses in the squad are there for all to see. Hopefully the young lads will be a bit more relaxed so that when they are in front of goal they are so relaxed, rather then being too anxious, they can go on and stick the ball into the net with assured confidence.

Claytons Left Boot Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 guys if you look really really carefully at the girl in purple, eventually you will notice she is wearing a necklace, hard to spot at first. Aye, and the necklace is plastic as well!
ABBEY Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 If we get beat on Saturday I'm pretty sure this will have nothing to do with it. why? would ricky hatton, david haye, carl froch or any pro athlete etc take a 2/3 hour plane ride and go on the ale the week before a bout...? Has anyone got a magic lamp? I've got 3 wishes! ive 69 wishes. Fake boobs are fake. who cares Aye, and the necklace is plastic as well! aye it could be a pearl one.
Backroom Tom Posted December 10, 2009 Backroom Posted December 10, 2009 why? would ricky hatton, david haye, carl froch or any pro athlete etc take a 2/3 hour plane ride and go on the ale the week before a bout...? Still don't see the problem, I'm sure most players have a drink at weekend albeit more locally, and teams often travel if they have an away game in europe. Its 6 days before a match I don't see any problem at all. Are you keen on joining the 'There's nothing else to moan about so I'm moaning about this' brigade?
ABBEY Posted December 10, 2009 Posted December 10, 2009 no ,just cant understand the logic behind it all, noone loves a beer more than me but im not a pro on 30k a week.If i was id drink battery acid if i was assured it was good for me not go on the beer a week before a big game...i would celebrate crimbo in the off season...thats unless all theses docs on here think its ok to get lashed the week before......personally i didnt drink for a month before a big un.
Backroom Tom Posted December 10, 2009 Backroom Posted December 10, 2009 You've mentioned a few times about being in a competitive sport, what was it if you don't mind me asking? I'm going to go with boxing.
SouthAussieRover Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 You've mentioned a few times about being in a competitive sport, what was it if you don't mind me asking? I'm going to go with boxing. Mud wrestling.
ABBEY Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 TCO ..olympic freestyle and shoot wrestling...british champ, international and qualified coach.so yes I do know about not drinking a week before a big match. would have made olympics if it wasn't for freak injury and being in nr coma for a week.

Just because they went out for their Christmas do it doesnt mean they got lashed up though does it? If it was a club do approved then I'm pretty sure they all drank sensibly, and as long as that was the case why begrudge them a night out?
alexanders Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 This is something that very many companies do to raise the teamspirit and motivate their employees. I dont get what you are making this fuss about.
Blue n White Rover Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 This is something that very many companies do to raise the teamspirit and motivate their employees. I dont get what you are making this fuss about. The fact that they could be training, working on their fitness levels and prepare for 2 games that we have coming up that we could easily win! You've got all summer to have a bloody party, have one by all means but just not on the dawn of 2 very important games that could well make our season!
Steve Moss Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 The players left immediately after a game and returned to training Tuesday. So the "problem" is that they missed training on Monday. So what? Days given off training for good work is pretty normal as far as I can tell, and the Rovers have been putting in some excellent play over the week prior and had a heavy schedule for the last couple of weeks. Giving them a day off is no big deal and well deserved.
broadsword Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 You can't begrudge the players letting their hair down a little bit. My concern was the necessity of hiring a private jet and going to Sweden. I've done a lot of air miles and it's tiring. The timing of it was fine. Just so long as they didn't get smashticated (and I'm sure they were too profession to do that).
LeftWinger Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I asked Robbo about the Christmas do last night. He said they got back on Monday. I asked if there were any good stories and predictably he said yes but I'm not telling you. I really don't think this will have any negative effects on the team, as has been mentioned they only missed training on the Monday.
jonv Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 (Please don't use that word again) me you lot sound like a win or loss this weekend is the difference between 100k in your back pocket. im sure you going on holidays in whatever job you do has it's effect on your clients no matter how big or small. it just maybe that your job aint in the public light so much. get over it!!!!!!!
greco Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 if the aim of the trip, was to raise team spirit, then surely there are better ways to do so, then drinking and partying. Especially with a lot of games around the corner. they have the talent to play at the highest level and are paid to do so, they are in a job where their physical fitness are a key ingredient, and drinking and partying do not contribute to higher fitness level.
CrazyIvan Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Much ado about nothing... I can't beleive people are making such a big deal about this. It's totally crackers. It's a Christmas party for gods sake, not a week long bender! Do you really think anybody else in football, at all levels, is going to give a toss about one party? They picked the quiet week to do it and did it right after the last game so it isn't going to have any impact on today's game and that won't be an excuse of any kind later. How about the mid-season trips to Dubai for a refresh? Should that be banned as well?
