[Archived] Simon Garner'S 194? 192?

Recommended Posts

I'd always thought that Simon Garner scored 194 goals. The Legends t-shirt (which is fantastic BTW) says 192, as does Soccerbase. The official site says 194.

So which is it? 194 or 192?

League 168

FA Cup 7

League Cup 11

Other 8

Total 194

Cheers Alan. Soccerbase only credits him with 6 "other".

Well incorrect total or no, the Legends t-shirt is still a great tribute to a true Rovers legend and I'll continue to wear it with pride.

The two goal difference is accounted for by the two Anglo-Scottish Cup goals. This competition is not usually regarded as a first class competition and hence the goals don't usually figure in statistics based on the main competitions. The Anglo Scottish Cup tends to be grouped with competitions like the Lancashire Senior Cup, Isle of Man Festival and Friendlies etc. If goals from all these were added together then Simon would be over the 200 goal mark.

Goals which are regarded as First Class are:

League 168

Play-offs 2

FA Cup 7

League Cup 11

Full Members' Cup 4

This gives the total of 192. Occasionally, some publishers seem to want to include Anglo-Scottish Cup and, if so, then the total is given as 194. Hence the confusion.
