Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Just reading the Vince Grella ( play 1, miss 3 ) site. Here's two more we bet the farm on that never came off- Steve Agnew and Jimmy Kerr. Craig Higgnet looked like joining this club at one time. Any more out there ?

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 Matty Holmes Dially KEITH ANDREWS I should have added I meant the ones who failed because of health/fitness issues, not because they were crap players. Here's two more for the old timers- Martin Britt, Alan Gilliver. What was that left back called that Don Mackay blew his load on ? He came from Rangers and played one game I think.
dulwich Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 What was that left back called that Don Mackay blew his load on ? He came from Rangers and played one game I think. Stuart Munro? He got an absolute pasting pre-season at Bury from David Lee and never really recovered from it.
Amo Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Jimmy Corbett. Young prospect joined Rovers in '98 but broke his ankle and never played a single game before he left.
den Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 What was that left back called that Don Mackay blew his load on ? He came from Rangers and played one game I think. Ally Dawson?
FourLaneBlue Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 David Thompson and Matt Jansen being the obvious. On the verge of greatness when...whoops. Martin Dahlin, Steven Reid even Alan Wright with his injuries.
dingles staying down 4ever Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Ally Dawson? No the one in question was Stuart Munro. Dawson cost for £50,000 which granted at the time was a lot of money. Players that signed but was not quite what he was built up to be was the new Paul Gascoigne, Lee Makel or the Swiss Patrick Viera in Omar Konde.
T4E Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 What was that left back called that Don Mackay blew his load on ? Thats a hell of a way to get injured
LDRover Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Javi De Pedro and George Donis - 2 marquee signings who went on to do sod all. De Pedro was one of the fattest men I've ever seen never mind the fattest footballer.
Tyrone Shoelaces Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 Stuart Munro was the one I had in mind.
mellison24 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Not sure if it was at Rovers but didn't Alan Shearer once break a youth goalies' arm taking a penalty (and therefore ending his career)? Or am I talking out my ass again?
DanLad Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 David Thompson and Matt Jansen being the obvious. On the verge of greatness when...whoops. Martin Dahlin, Steven Reid even Alan Wright with his injuries. 'Never worked' Thompson, Jansen, Reid and Wright all worked.
Ninjathunder Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Jimmy Corbett. Young prospect joined Rovers in '98 but broke his ankle and never played a single game before he left. Beat me to it. The new Ryan Giggs.
JAL Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 From the seventies - Keith Birchenall from Leicester City absolutely dreadful at Rovers John Aston ex Man United european cup winner, another way past his best at Rovers, very disappointing player who had a great playing CV. John Radford ex Arsenal Fa cup winner on a par with Joe Craig ex Celtic . A more recent player who had a great career and reputation but didnt do anything in his short time at Rovers, was Dino Baggio.
Shabani Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 dino baggio anders andersson marc sebastien pelzer the list goes on
47er Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 God-this list could go on forever. We didn't exactly make the best use of Jack's money when we had it did we? What about those two 16 year old scots kids a few years back. Was it Kidd who signed them. Supposed to be the next big thing but the usual happened--into that Bermuda Triangle known as the Academy and that was that. Burton O'Brien was one, can't remember t'other. Still plying his wares in the lower reaches of Scottish football I think.

dingles staying down 4ever Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 David McNamee was the other I think. Yep that was him. Has he not returned to Scotland and then reappeared in the English football somewhere down the football league food chain?
JAL Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Robbie Fowler a top signing ! Another quality signing from John Barnes twin brother.
cn174 Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Yep that was him. Has he not returned to Scotland and then reappeared in the English football somewhere down the football league food chain? Plymouth he's at according to Wiki, but played just 15 times since summer 2008.
whittle blue Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Bobby Svarc. A centre forward who daren't shoot because his knees were knackered! He was signed by Jim Smith from Colchester Utd. in 1975
