Backroom Tom Posted January 2, 2010 Backroom Posted January 2, 2010 The Chelsea game was a win no matter how it came about so that can't be counted against Sam

bazza Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I appreciate that the FA Cup probably isn't our priority but whichever team we put out we should at least be competing. For a good while it was like an Aston Villa training session - attack against defence. Not a one-off, this. Sam's regular team performance, week in week out. Getting really fed up
cn174 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Oh and another thing - bloody stupid tackle from Givet for their penalty. Carew was going absolutely nowhere and was always gonna get to the ball first and Givet just took his legs. Not a one-off' date=' this. Sam's regular team performance, week in week out. Getting really fed up [/quote'] I think the worst thing is that we know what it is going to be like before we get there - it all seems kind of inevitable.
AggyBlue Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I think the worst thing is that we know what it is going to be like before we get there - it all seems kind of inevitable. Hence most of us stayed at home. There's been far fewer away days for me this season.
Quack Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 We went to the game - admittedly more in hope than expectation. Left Ewood an hour late and got to Villa Park 20 minutes late - just settled down to watch Reid getting pulled down - up steps Dunny. He got plenty of verbal abuse from the Villans and then inexplicably prodded the penalty kick softly towards Brad Mark 2 who gratefully gobbled up the ball - cue worse abuse for Dunny. Pointless foul on Warnock, Young crosses and Cuellar rises majestically above our grounded defence to place a header well out of reach of Brown - who yet again looks 6 inches too short to be a keeper. Red mist then descended when Spit lunged at Beye - clear red even from our distant view point. Spit even took the corner flag as well! The expert then brings on MGP for the last 68 seconds of the half - why ?? Second half started and Rovers actually matched Villa for 20 minutes or so. Kalinic scored a scrappy goal after a Brad mark 2 fumble but hey who cares - a goal is a goal . Kalinic then had a good attempt but his shot drifted wide of the far post. A rather tame stalemate then ensued with few chances, Rigters came on and did absolutely nothing. Big John came on - a completely futile challenge by Givet brought Carew down - clear penalty. Carew showed far more composure and sent little Jason the wrong way. Not impressed with a long cold day out - well done to those who went to endure the latest addition to the Rovers away day blues. Not looking forward to Tuesday at all.
cn174 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 The expert then brings on MGP for the last 68 seconds of the half - why ?? That was bizarre, brought him on for Di Santo with a minute to go, then Pedersen spent the half time break warming up on the pitch. Surely the sub could've waited until half time?!
imy9 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Was about to post the same. Ten without a win because technically we drew against Chelsea. If one is being really pedantic as well we haven't won an away game under Sam since the 11th of March last year at Fulham. McDonald was in charge at Bolton. Edit: In the Premier League that is. We drew the game in normal time but we WON the game to progress, there is no technicality about it. I'll be pedantic too, Kalinic has scored in the premier league because "technically" it was a legitimate goal ruled out against Man Utd (oh by the way Sam chose the team against Fulham- even did the team talk beforehand!), I love the manipulation of the data available to beat Sam.

Thats nothing to be proud of
brfcs5359 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 This wasn't a FA cup one off. It's been brewing over a period. Sam needs to turn it around as for the guy who said you need money I disagree and I think the evidence suggests it is not neccessarily so. Fulham? NZonzi, Samba, Nelsen, Warnock, Dunn, Cruz, Friedal, Tugay, Chimbonda. There have always been lost and lots of quality players going cheaply. It's bad managers that can't spot them.
imy9 Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Thats nothing to be proud of He should have been nowhere the team but the guy obviously has a real passion for his job and kept in contact with his team.
47er Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 It's also funny (strange) how no wins in thirteen for Ince mean people want to string him up in front of the Town Hall, no wins in ten for Sam and it just doesn't seem to register or matter! 6 successive defeats to teams like Wigan and the peasants would definately revolt. But ain't going to happen. We are if much better shape than last season and your campaign should be at least founded on more honest data. PS---how did Reid go? Its been asked but no-one has responded.
broadsword Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 He should have been nowhere the team but the guy obviously has a real passion for his job and kept in contact with his team. Surely we need more than passion though? Brian Kidd brought a lot of passion to the job. Meaningless without other positive attributes.

To be honest he was un-noticeable. He had one shot that went miles over.
AlanK Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 1st time I have made a game for 18 months. My girlfriends 1st ever game. Oh bloody dear! Waste of time, effort and money. Will stick to F1. Give me 20k a week and I`ll give the ball away EVERY SINGLE TIME Mr Salgado.
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I am (probably like a lot of Rovers fans) very downhearted - another defeat, playing style isn't improving, we seem in terminal decline. But unlike many fans I ain't gonna have a go at Sam - firstly i am not his biggest fan, and dislike his approach most of the time. However - most of the problems we have don't stem from the manager - they stem from the fickle fans. 11K tickets so far for Villa Pt2 is unbelievably poor. And yet how many will be queuing for Wembley tickets ? More fans would mean more money - better players - and a better standard of football. At the moment we struggle to break even - leaving us in a position where the football has to be effective not pretty (though how effective is open to debate). Ask Charlton fans what they would prefer ! As for todays match - more experience for players like Jones - a goal for Kalanic - and hopefully the last time ever we will see Diouf playing for Rovers.
broadsword Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 If we sold out Ewood every two weeks would it really make that much difference to the finances?
Crank Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Once again, i feel sorry for the Rovers fans who spent money to watch crap!
MarkBRFC Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 11K tickets so far for Villa Pt2 is unbelievably poor. And yet how many will be queuing for Wembley tickets ? None im guessing, because we sure won't be playing there anytime soon,
DavidMailsTightPerm Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 If we sold out Ewood every two weeks would it really make that much difference to the finances? What a daft question. Obviously more revenue from :- 1. Match day tickets - which also could be sold at a higher price rather than given away if the demand was there. 2. More programmes, food sales, corporate boxes etc. etc. 3. More lucrative sponsorship

Match day tickets - which also could be sold at a higher price rather than given away if the demand was there. 2. More programmes, food sales, corporate boxes etc. etc. 3. More lucrative sponsorship Of course we get more money if more people turn up. But relatively compared to the TV money it makes very little difference. There isn't that demand there which is something we're just going to have to accept - even at our peak we had an average attendance of about 25,000.
broadsword Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 It's not as if having 30k there every other week would mean we broke even.
Hughesy Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 The expert then brings on MGP for the last 68 seconds of the half - why ?? You answered your own question - the expert brought MGP on, he then set up the goal.....expert must of been right then eh?! None im guessing, because we sure won't be playing there anytime soon, Typical mentality - go and support Burnley. Just seen the goals on highlights - Jason Brown was RUBBISH - Robbo would of saved 2, maybe all 3.
broadsword Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 "I see a lot of those situations that never result in a sending-off. They will justify it by saying it was two-footed but the referee, Howard Webb, is a long way away. "He did not know what sort of tackle it was because I have seen a playback on the video. If the assistant referee made the decision, then fine, but I don't think he did." What drugs is Allardyce taking? There was no way it was anything other than a red card. To pretend otherwise is to make yourself out to be a total fool. It was an absolutely disgraceful tackle. But typical of the man who made it.
AggyBlue Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 Surely we need more than passion though? Of course. Strikers that score goals and midfielders that stay fit.

Simply untrue, yes we would have a bit more money but to suggest most of our problems stem from this when we have had the highest season ticket sales in years is ridiculous. As someone already said I doubt it really makes that much difference in the grand scheme of things.
