Where's Nicko when you need him eh? What a shambles, regardless of what now happens with Coyle, all three parties have come out of this with their reputations damaged. Gartside at Bolton for apparently 'tapping up' Coyle, Coyle himself for being such a duschebag through the whole thing and Burnley's board for their awful communication with the fans. Honestly, what a joke, i'm beginning to lose interest in the whole thing....

May not mean anything at all but Coyle has actually drifted out on Betfair from a low of about 1.11 at about 5pm yesterday to 1.29 at the time of writing this post.

Curbishley has come in sharply from 17 earlier on to 9.6 currently.

Not sure what the delay can be, if Coyle has a get out clause in his contract and Bolton are willing to meet it, that should be that.

My initial gut reaction yesterday on hearing that the announcement had come from the Burnley end about Coyle having talks was that the Bolton package was nowhere near as attractive as Coyle was expecting and that Coyle was having to scuttle back to Agent Kilby with his tail between his legs.

He's probably chewing over Flood and Kilby's request that he come back and buy some of the clarrots for an inflated price to help his old mates out. In reality if it's Coyle that is causing the delay I think it is all posturing. Either trying to bow out gracefully, hardest decision ever etc, or he's been doing a OC PR campaign, get his name bandied around a bit.

Not sure about the sympathy for this lot either, some fancy words used for kicking our cousins when they are down but I love it meself, they never miss an opportunity to do it to is. I'm enjoying this, either way it goes it's been good this.

unsure if this has been posted elsewhere. apologies if it has.

Nicko's article - http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Owen-Coyle-to-quit-Burnley-to-take-charge-at-Bolton-article276677.html

Owen Coyle to quit Burnley to take charge at Bolton

Owen Coyle is ready to walk out on Burnley and become Bolton boss - in time to take on Arsenal in a debut of fire n Wednesday night.

Coyle had talks with Wanderers supremo Phil Gartside yesterday after the chairman headed to Glasgow to see him after a family reunion.

Gartside was given the nod to speak to Coyle about the vacancy by Burnley operations director Brendan Flood and immediately set up the meeting where he persuaded the highly-rated Glaswegian to take the job.

Coyle wants to work with serious cash after finding Burnley's shoestring budget was giving him an uphill battle to compete in the top-flight - with even Bolton's payroll three times as big.

The move has stunned Burnley who thought Coyle was settled after turning down previous approaches. However, the former Bolton striker is hugely ambitious and sees the Reebok as an ideal step.

Coyle is breaking the bad news to Burnley and is also in a position to leave, with Bolton prepared to pick up the tab for his compensation, which is around £1 million.

The negotiations are unusual as Flood and Gartside are friends and the Bolton supremo recommended Coyle to Burnley in the first place - a call that was worth around £60million when they won promotion.

Gartside wants Coyle in charge quickly as his club is in the bottom three and running into a tough run of games that includes two meetings with the Gunners – the first at the Emirates on Wednesday – and an emotion-charged match with Burnley.

There will be talks over Coyle's backroom staff which could drag on over a few days, but Coyle is now going in one direction and his backroom team will follow.

Burnley are fuming that their 'God' is going, but they will instantly start to look at the market for a replacement. Coach Steve Davis may step in while Flood seeks a new man.

Darren Ferguson, who is also on the shortlist for the managerial vacancy at Preston, could be among the Burnley targets,

judging by footymad the dingles appear to hate him more than god himself saying he is biased and painting them in a bad light in order to turn the country against them. they want him banned from turf moor

Where's Nicko? Looks like he was on the phone with Coyle. Not sure how long 24 hours is in Scotland but it looks like somebody managed around a couple of English hours before making further statements, assuming Nicko isn't prone to simply making stories up - http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Burnley-boss-Owen-Coyle-poised-to-quit-Clarets-for-Bolton-today-article278037.html . I really would prefer it if people could deal with these things in private.

I just hope we are hard on with our search for a replacement. Coyle was good, exceptional even but he is a way from being the finished article. Come what may the club is bigger than one man and lets be honest, we at Burnley have faced considerably darker days.

You've got a hard on looking for a replacement ? You're not after Mark Lawrenson are you ?

Compo £1m for three years tells you what the dingles doubled his wages from when he got them promoted!

Just goes to show how grim life is for a small Lancashire club outside the Premier League.

Burnley have a real problem now- they will be asked to pay PL wages to a management team who in all probability will get them relegated.

Incidentally, the 24 hour break presumably holds OC back from taking charge at the Emirates and thus absolving him of responsibility for yet another away day thrashing.

As a Bolton fan I'd be delighted if we got Coyle, he's an inspirational guy with a Wanderers pedigree who has performed wonders at Turf Moor.

I do feel obliged to make the point that I think Bolton and Burnley are similarly sized clubs with Blackburn and Preston historically in the same bracket as regards club size. There is poison between Burnley and Blackburn and to a much lesser degree Bolton and Blackburn. However between Bolton and Burnley the rivalry has always been fairly friendly and only becomes feisty on the match days when we actually play each other. I hope this scenario won't change that, but given some of the comments above I suspect things will be soured.

Whatever, I wish Burnley all the best and hope we both stay up, preferably at the expense of the characterless ones from Ewood

Thats from the BBC Blog

If this is how most Notlob fans feel, may they be relegated with the inbred ones :angry2:

The 1 million fee was I believe inserted into his contract in some way/shape or form.

As I understand it his salary is considerably more than 1 third of 1 million - of course I could be wrong.

At this point the manager I want to see in is O'Driscoll and if not him maybe Warnock

I've no idea of the truth of this, but the Independent this morning has the get-out clause at £3m. The article suggests Coyle is on £750K at Burnley and could treble that at Bolton if he achieves bonus targets, mainly keeping them up.

Hard luck Longsider, welcome to the pirana tank that is the Premier League. Now you know how we all felt when our own Judas left. You're right your club, all clubs, are

bigger than any one man and Burnley have been through much worse times than these. It'll be interesting to see how long he stays at Bolton though, he must be very ambitious.

It'll be a tough decision for you to make now - Do you go for somebody who tries to play football and carry on entertaining but losing too often ? Or do you go for a recognised fire fighter who'll do a Sam and keep you up ?

Names to consider-

Phelan- could be the new Kiddo.

Ferguson- juries out here, let Preston take the risk.

Grayson- my choice if the surgeon knife had slipped during Sams operation, I doubt wether he'd come to either Burnley or Rovers. Ex Rover though, that can play two ways. Mightly impressive with Leeds on Sunday.

Warnock- it won't be pretty but you'd have a real chance of staying up with him in charge. We'd get kicked to death in March. Away games would take on a different complexion that's for sure.

Curbishley- the original safe pair of hands, would he come north though ?

Shearer- bit of a laugh here, but football's a funny old game !

The guy at Donny- O'Driscoll ?- bit of a long shot but likely to carry on in the Coyle style.

Davis and existing staff - there's only one Tony Parkes, caretakers rarely work long term.

Joe Kinnear- you could do worse. Similar to Warnock but plays more football.

Last but not least, my tip for the top, the poor mans Simon Grayson --------- Keith Hill at Rochdale- he's working an absolute miracle there. No money, they keep selling his best players over his head, ( ring any bells ) but they're still playing teams off the park every week. Banging the goals in and playing great football. This guy will make it at a higher level, ex Rover as well.

There must be more candidates, happy hunting. Oh by the way you won't be making any illicit approaches to any one will you ? Burnley being extremely ethical in these matters.

That list is far too impressive TS.

Might I suggest to Messrs Flood and Kilby a condensed shortlist of

Peter Reid, Bryan Robson, and Brendan Rogers.

As a side issue not sure why Coyle seems to be copping all the flack by being allegedly disloyal whilst the Burnley Board get off scot free. If the Board showed a bit of faith and loyalty in their manager by backing him he might not be leaving.
