I think i will see who Burnley bring in before predicting if they will go down. If they get someone in who can keep their home form pretty decent but at the same time make them hard to beat on their away travels (their away form is the worst in the league even worse than ours!) then there is a chance they could stay up.

As Philip pointed out they have two options...

1. Pay an experienced man (Curbs or similar) a massive fee for the next 6 months until they know whether or not they are safe or relegated before then deciding to keep him or replace him. Costly.

or

2. Take on someone from a lower div on Coyle's salary and gamble that the new fellow is up to the task.

"Why are they so ###### off, what has he done so wrong? Bad news for the club but realistically he has got them promoted and playing well and conducted himself like a gentleman broadly speaking".

The lack of sympathy is fully expected. The lack of understanding about why the fans might be ever so slightly miffed, not so much. I suspect Rovers fans wouldn't be shaking his hand on the way out of Blackburn in the same situation.

Seriously, not only has he left to both a local and relegation rival, but he's done it at arguably the worst time of the season. He's also handled himself pretty badly in the process (selling himself as supremely loyal - see Longsiders quotes on this thread - denying interest, ducking press conferences, getting his assistant to tell a few porkies - several journo's have reported that he was still in the ground on Sat, whilst the post match conference was going on - the list is pretty long). I don't know how true it is, but I heard today that talks had been going on with Gartside before Megson was sacked. Added to that is the fact that it's not a huge step up, making the motivation slightly more difficult to understand. Many impartial commentators in the media have expressed surprise at his choice of clubs. The claim to connection Bolton doesn't quite wash either (he's been at Burnley almost as long and was definately more widely adored).

Of course this is common practice in football and of course you can level the accusation of stupidity at anyone who expected anything else, but come on; which football club's fans wouldn't see this as a betrayal and be annoyed about it in the same circumstances?

Would it be too much to hope that the two Clubs can't agree on compensation, Kilby decides too much water has gone under the bridge, cans Coyle and both Clubs end up without a manager?

Oh well we can but dream!

:D

One Dingle started a thread on Dinglemad, saying the delay was because Brendan Flood wants out as hes no cash and talks were being done with another director and that this had caused the delay the other director.

Nicko, do you know if there's any truth in that the dingles are going for Huddersfield's Lee Clark as there next boss ???

Would he be worth a punt ???

I don't think Nicko has been on here for a few days.

Just heard this from another source, Flood has lost millions this year and wants out, but cant be done till end of season, so at the moment, no Transfer Kitty, except Coyle Compo

1) is probably the better option then they can do 2) at the end of the season if they wish. But who of any stature would be prepared to undertake a nigh on impossible task?

Would have to be someone currently out of work and pretty desperate to get back into it imo.

Souness would redeem himself greatly in my eyes if he took it on and took them down without a whimper!

Just a point here, Whoever the Dingles choose next, they are now a prem club, will they have to have an Pro License?

If a pro licence is now mandatory and enforced, then the (wiki) list is :

Curbs seems the most likely one but would he be happy with a crap wage and a 15k wage budget?

Ferguson is out, he's gone to PNE.

Apparently Curbs agent came out today and said he would be willing to move north, and to the championship if necessary.

where`s your god gone,

where`s your god gone Burn-er-lee,

You couldn`t keep him,

now you`re weepin`

all t`way back to division 3"

Thst surely isn't the complete list of qualified coaches? Since Wenger, Fergie, Sam etc aren't on it.

How many of our backroom staff under Hughes had them though?!

Burnley could do worse than have a go for Bowen or someone.

Cant be bothered to look it up but I think there was some agreement that managers who had been in the job for a certain amount of time before they made it mandatory didnt have to do it. I might be totally wrong though.

When the Pro Licence was introduced any managers who had been in the game for over 10 years were automatically awarded a licence, e.g. Wenger, Fergie. However, Sam (despite not having to do so) took the course anyway and is on the above list(2005).

AESF just as an aside I'd like to say this. My wife of 30 years is Scottish, one of my oldest and dearest friends is Scottish and I've spent, through these connections, a great deal of time in Scotland. I have to say your summary of the Scottish is, in my experience, very wide of the mark.

If you had said sections of Scotland are strangely anti-English I might have been able to agree with you to an extent but the above is far from accurate in my experience. I'm not taking this personally but do feel other posters should see a bit of balance.

I'd go farther, you really can't make judgements about how people behave because of their country of birth, their race, colour, religion etc. People who do that are a bit thick---like the BNP.
