what an idiot. presumably this guy doesn't want any managers to move at all, ever unless sacked!

That fellow is conveniently ignoring the fact that Burnley presumably agreed to let OC have a "get out" clause in his contract.

Still O'Driscoll for me.

Some are suggesting Steve Coppell - not for me thanks.

Hughes is hotly tipped (not Mark, another young scottish manager mmmmm)

I suspect it will be a young upcoming manager - hence rather a gamble but if we are going out the Prem lets do it with a bang not a whimper as some old stager attempts to 'make us more solid' etc etc. Also a younger manager IF he has the talent provides a better potential platform for coming back up.

Is Ince back in work? hehe.

O'Driscoll is a good shout, got his pro license and done well at Doncaster, the other guy I am now hearing of is Coyles successor at St Johnstone!!!

What's the problem? It's always gone on.

Manager leaves club for better things. Club gets compensation. End of story.

I've got to say the best was when Souey left us for the Geordy Circus and we received compensation and appointed Hughes as his successor!!! What a result!

This must be a very quiet transfer window if this is major news.

Would I welcome Shearer? Yes and no.

His history with yourselves would not deter me - a winner, by far the best English player of his generation and deserved to win more in his career (made the mistake of going to the barcodes). My worry would be a complete lack of experience (ignoring however many games he did at Newcastle).

Coppell - I don't know, just not really fired up by the idea.

As for ropey manangers - suspect Reid has no chance at all (see Brendan Floods book), Jewell priced himself out last time I believe.

What did Flood say about Reid? Your mate Mr. Nixon referred to it on here, obviously thought it was hilarious, but wouldn't divulge.

Burnley fans are stupid they have (had) one of the best young managers and expect him to stay at their small club while offers from celtic and bolton come in. accept that he has done a brilliant job but calling him judas is just madness. ok bolton is much bigger than burnley but he was a legend at bolton and this will be part of the reason for him moving

Another thing that made me laugh was fans on skysports news;

reporter; Who would you like as next burnley manager

Fans answer; MARK HUGHES he doesnt need the money

lets be realistic now he wanted Newcastle job when at rovers but had to stay and wait for city job, so if burnley fans think they will get him when they have less money than rovers then they are living in dream land, they would even be able to pay his wages let alone give him a transfer budget.

Rumours around Burnley are that they are gonna put Coyle on Gardening leave

What on earth would that achieve, they gotta keep paying him, have to let Davies take over for the rest of the season and then let him go for nothing as there is no way Coyle could come back!!

Seems like Burnley dont understand football

I didn't realise there was history between Flood & Reid. I'll give Flood's book a miss thanks Longsiders... Did you read Simon Garners book?

As for Jewell pricing himself out, that could be a blessing in disguise for you.

Coyle a legend at Notlob??? He scored 12 goals in 54 games over 2yrs. Thats like saying Egil Ostenstad is a Rovers legend!!!

Don't believe all the rumours that you hear. They need to appoint a replacement as much as Notlob want to get Coyle in.

Whatever happens I can't see Coyle leading the team out at weekend, It's a case of burnley & Notlob dotting the I's and crossing the T's then it will be all over with and forgotten about.

Well I for one am staggered! Whilst obviously not privy to behind the scenes machinations, it seems almost beyond belief that having fought to bring his team into the premiership, he would then jump ship around a third of the way into the season. On the surface it would seem to me that once again it is nothing more than the lure of "The Filthy Lucre". Now I never thought I would say this but I have sympathy for their fans, who must feel as cheated as we felt when managers have walked out on us. Has football management become just another "job"? cos I always imagined you would need to feel at least a little pride and passion for the club which you are managing and not regard it as an ordinary 9 to 5 job. Obviously I was wrong!

I will let Nicko tell you when the time is right but things I am hearing makes me wonder what the hell is going on at the Turf, Flood wants out as he's broke, no transfer kitty etc

If all these rumours are correct along with other bits, I am not surprised Coyle walked!!

OC was always using the dingles as a stepping stone as Hughes used Blackburn as a stepping stone. What I can't understand is that Notlob isn't much of a step up. I'm sure he's stand a better chance of keeping the Turd Morgue club in the top flight than a bunch of misfits at the Reebok who are not his choice of players.

He'll be Notlob manager by the end of the week then.

It seem's burnley may have shot themselves in the foot, surely they can't appoint or even interview for a new manager if the current manager is on gardening leave?

What a sorry state of affairs.

Thats what I thought and the transfer window is ticking, if they get a manager without a pro license and he has to be approved by Prem league, thats another week gone too!!

As the A team used to say, 'I love it when a plan comes together'

Eh? I just caught the end of what appeared to be a Press conference with Kilby and Flood confirming OC's departure.

Kilby said player budgets was the main reason for oc leaving and Flood was bragging the Burnley job was not one they'd need to advertise as as soon as it was known Bolton were in for oc they received at least 12 phone calls from interested candidates for their job.

That boast may come back to bite him on the arse depending on the quality of manager they manage to attract.

I think it is possible they are in a better money situation than Rovers. They have no debt, so their income is for wages, operating costs and profit. I do not think they will go down either. I have never heard anything bad about the effort on the filed, yet we are always having ago at Rovers players for laziness etc. I think burnely being in the prem is also good for Rovers. I can understand natural rivalry for burnley v Rovers supporters, but never have understood the hatred for each other from both sides. Can anybody tell me how the hatred ever came about?

I think the "hatred" is purely and simply a misomer that has somehow arisen in fairly recent years; most certainly within the last 30 years or so. IMO it has more to do with people's inability to truly understand the meaning of certain words in their own language due to innapropriate usage, or lazy manner of speaking. Hatred is actually a very strong and very serious emotion, and I would not expect ANY normal sane individual to experience this emotion over anything as relatively trivial as a football match. Intense rivalry certainly and there is nothing either wrong or unusual in that; but to confuse this kind of rivalry with hatred is both ridiculous and farcical.

I can honestly say that in my time as a supporter of Football in general and Rovers in particular (now just over 64 years) I cannot remember any reference to "hatred" being used either between Rovers and Burnley fans or between supporters of any of the many other clubs that I have been associated with over these years.

I can't pin-point the exact time when it may have crept in to popular usage, but I guess it may have been in the '70s when all the football violence first erupted, but have no evidence for that; just a feeling.

They've put him on Gardening leave, seriously? So now he sits at home waiting for his contract to expire?

ROFLMAO, what a farce.

It's a joke.

How's he going to get any gardening done in this weather?

I expect it will be an extremely temporary situation for a day or two whilst they sort out the compo.

It truly would be too much to hope for: Burnley have to pay OC for being on his hols for the rest of the season and can't afford a decent replacement.

Bolton back to square one and back to looking at the likes of |Reid and Jewell as a replacement.
