[Archived] Megson Sacked, Coyle Takes Over

Sam is not going to Bolton, end of.

This must be the longest drawn out manager appointment sage ever. What a pathetic record for a club to have. I suppose Bolton could just pull the plug - where would that leave Coyle - apart from the one with the best snow cleard garden in Burnley.

Why do you think Sam wouldn't consider going back to Bolton? After the past fews days, even Bolton maybe prepared to forgive and forget.

You may well be right, however as a defender I thought he was excellent and his timing in the tackle was superb as well. Most centre halves these days seem to have lost the art of making a clean tackle.

Agree, I think the word to describe his tackling and reading of the game is 'anticipation'.

Sorry, realise it's off topic but the Coyle situation may drag on and on until the end of the month the way things are looking which can only be bad news for the dingles. .

I agree that Faz was outstanding at reading the game but the reason why he did not go on to bigger things was that his distribution let him down.

Fabulous defender was Faz. You're spot on about the one thing that kept him away from the top sides as well.

I would hate to think Burnley had met a manager's agent this afternoon...

What a terrible story that would be if it came out.

And with a manager still in the job at Turf Moor too.

You tease Nicko, you! Surely the Coyle must go through sooner rather than later, he will be left up s**t creek if it doesn't though.

It makes a refreshing change to see you revelling in our 6 fingered friends pain. Welcome to the party.

Why?

Can't imagine Steve Davis would mind too much.

Your man has no room to complain so long as Burnley continue to pay his wages for putting his feet up.

I'm not revelling. I didn't want it to work out like this.

There are two very key pieces of information about Owen's departure that have yet to come to light. They will stay that way for now.

I hope they get the right guy and I will try to find out first.

That's called 'stuffing' not revelling.

Don't suppose I will provide them with the name that wins them the £60 million prize this time, mind you.

I presume in trying to nail Notlob to the wall on compensation, the dingles have to maintain the pretence there is an open job for OC and that the gardening leave is something that can be resolved by his return.

Actively recruiting Coyle's successor makes that a tiny bit harder and weakens their hand viz a viz Bolton. After all, what actual loss would £3m compensate Burnley for? Would be a bit tricky for a club with such a low commercial base to sustain its arguments for actual losses in a Court of Law at the level of £3m if they are already well down the road of finding a very adequate replacement.

Again if you compare the situation with Rovers when Hughes went, Sparky was a former highly regarded national manager and one of the most decorated players of his generation whom Rovers all-too-genuinely struggled to replace. Coyle came to Burnley from St Johnstone...

The dingles really are pushing it on this one and meeting managers' agents is not a smart move whilst compo is not settled. Good luck to them for trying it on but they are being anything but clever in the way they are going about extracting £3m from the Trotters.

Who do you think they will go for ? An experienced manager like coppell or jewell or will they try and find the next coyle?

With their budget I can't see curbishley or dowie wanting the job.

Nothing of what you mention is particularly relevant to the compensation claim is it?

It all boils down to the perceived value of the remainder of Coyle's contract. Perhaps there is provision for bonuses in there in the event of Coyle hitting certain targets, which the Dingles think they should be compensated for and Bolton don't.

Brendan Flood wants a young and up-and-coming manager - for several reasons.

Picking one and finding one who wants to come may not be straightforward.

Read his book...they made a right pig's ear of it last time until someone dug them out of a hole.

I wouldn't touch Curbishley or Dowie.

I can think of one guy who would be an ideal 'new Coyle' in every way but that will have to stay with me for the moment.

Nicko any truth in Avram Grant jumping ship at Pompey, to apply for the Burnley position.

Surprised you expect Flood to have any influence after this debacle. I would have thought this will be a Kilby appointment all the way. If you want an outside bet - Ian Holloway who apparently has been offered the job previously - though I am hearing the number one choice is somebody very very close to the club at the moment (no, not Coyle hehe) but we shall see.

Latest twist on the compo, as I hear it. The figure is circa 3 million - and here's the rub, that is to a top 6 club. I'm guessing that is where the argument starts.

I also heard that our chairman was on holiday when this hit the fan - not sure if that is true. Funnily enough I also heard a tale or 2 about who is in who's 'circle of friends', looks mirkier by the passing day this one

Young English, or young foreign coach? I know Coyle has been a success story, but is it not a huge risk by Flood to go that route? We have seen the likes of Southgate and Ince flop, because of a lack of experience at the highest level. Is it also a lack of money issue, that Flood is unable to attract an experienced guy who will want money to spend on new players

Young and hungry.

You have to take a risk in football.

Burnley are in the happy position of having picked up points to be above the bottom three and with a squad full of good and genuine pros.

Ideal for someone on the way up.

You also need the kind of enthusiasm Owen has and the ability to get the players playing for you.

To be fair, Brendan Flood did well to recognise those qualities in Owen. He will have to get as lucky again.

Happy position Mr Nixon??? I dont understand how we not happy, but Burnley are. I suppose its probably the fact, that we have been higher up the league table and that we not use to all this relegation stuff. ;):D

my guess, on the new Burnley manager is Benni, still young and Hungry

It wouldn't surprise me if Simon Grayson was on Barry Kilby's shortlist but I'm wondering whether Simon Grayson would fancy a move to Burnley considering his Leeds team look set to achieve promotion this season and Leeds is probably considered a "bigger" club. I've got a feeling I read somewhere that he's a Leeds supporter too. Would be a good choice but I think he's too out of reach.
