A club like ours, in the position we are have only 2 choices.

We go for what would be seen as a safer, older experienced manager. The trouble with these guys, the ones we could get at least is they all have 2 things in common, they have all taken a club down and are all unemployed (there has to be a reason for this). If we went this route maybe Curbs would be the best choice - could see him building over a few seasons. Not sure he'd come but would be a decent option. The second choice is we take a chance - as you did with Ince and we did with Coyle. Sometimes they pay off (Coyle) sometimes they don't (Ince) but when they do the benefits are immense. I'm a little worried about the Lee Clarke link as I think he's only managed for around 40 games plus if he did do well he'd be off to the barcodes quicker than Usain Bolt on the track. He does though have what looks a decent backroom staff. In this camp I guess we also have the guys from Scotland (Hughes/McInnes).

I would like to see us take a gamble - we always kind of expected to get relegated anyway, lets go down with a bang if it has to happen.

On a seperate note - anybody seen Nicko's Coyle article, where he doesn't want to be seen as the bad guy? Strange, he makes a big deal about not being a liar - then says he hasn't seen Gartside since 1995 - yet stories in the media have suggested it was Gartside who recomended him to us after he impressed during his interview for the Bolton job - where he was second choice behind MEgson for the post?

How do you feel about having a rovers legend as clark's number 2 though. I take it faz is number 2 and cole is a coach and not tother way round. Classic, rovers legend and goalscorer in our last cup win as your backroom staff, god I hope they take the job, take the money, and take you down!!

Careful, son.

The last time there was libel about the 'Rooney' story it cost a newspaper £18,500.

You got that much cash handy?

Not sure I put anything libelous?

As for 18500 - I would refer you to the end of Rocky whatever it was, sue me, for what? You are welcome to a share of my debt which could quite easily equate to 18500.

If I had time to check and found you or your daft pals repeating it I would have to keep my solicitor happy...not to mention mrs nicko.

Take it as a word of advice at this stage.

Wouldn't bother me one bit to be honest. Cole has already played for us and I would imagine Faz is a professional so no worries there. Also I think McDermott is number 2. Based on nickos post though it matters not either way - seems we are not (currently at least) after Clark.

If we wish to question Morgan perhaps we should wonder about your own Nicko's credentials - wasn't there a newspaper piece about him writing ultra positive articels about a company he had shares in? I'm sure I have a PDF of it somewhere, it think it was around the same time as some Everton fans questioned his involvement in Rooney's transfer.

Davis going was a shocker - seems Coyle has decided to not only leave but do his very best to screw us over in the process. Now down to the personalities in the dressing room. I have no idea what each of them are like but if they all pull together then pro's like Alexander, Caldwell and Carlisle can maybe engineer some fighting spirit.

As for Coyle coming back for players - he'd better open up the cheque book because I really cannot see our Chairman being in the mood to negotiate with him - and lest we forget, one unexepcted benefit of our pay policy is any player wishing to 'play up' to get a transfer can easily be left in the reserves, it's not like they are costing us 50k a week is it.

"Your own Nicko"??? It isn't me having a hysterical hissy fit about him being Coyle's mouthpiece and then using a Piers Morgan rent-a-quote to back up the argument? I mean, I presume that Mr Morgan wasn't so outraged about Coyle that he penned that article for free?

Mark Hughes walked out on this club. He took the entire coaching staff and then came back for our best player. It happens to most clubs.

Phil Gartside recommended Owen Coyle for the Burnley job because he had 'considered' him for the Bolton post last time.

He didn't speak to him or meet him.

Those who recall the last time I got a Bolton managerial situation right [and some are still living off their betting winnings] may recall that Bolton spoke to Megson and Souey. No-one else.

I wouldn't be calling Owen a liar either. Or Phil for that matter.

There is a borderline between conspiracy theory-style opinions and branding people liars.

Anyway, if Burnley now move in for Huddersfield Town's boss that will make their morals different to those of Bolton Wanderers how, exactly?

Burnley moved for the St.Johnstone manager...no problem...all grown-ups, handshales, best of pals afterwards.

Bolton move for Burnley manager - legally...problem.

How strange.

I'm not having a hissy fit about nicko at all. I have said, on here, he is a journalist and that is how he earns his corn - if he is given stories and information he would be mad not to use them - in his position I would do the same.

As for Morgan - kind of agree and can't help but feel he wrote his piece because of his friendship with Campbell. I posted the NOTW link - which I think is the most rounded and fair assesment I have seen without being critical of any party.

To be fair I know you aren't and it wasn't directed at you - it was one of your "brethren" I had originally replied to.

All Hail Nicko!

Who'd of thought a journo from Partick could take over from Blackburn Rovers as the hatred figure used to unite the ginger tribes of calder!

Respect, full respect!

Love it.

Makes me howl. I recommend Coyley in the first place at a time when Burnley were on the verge of appointing Peter Reid. Since then the club has gone to untold heights and saved its financial skins - and those of some of their backers - with promotion and the Premier League's slush fund. I could not have been happier. It's great when a plan comes off, makes it worth your time and effort. Good people getting their day in the sun.

Now, I dare to put the stories out about a rather sad departure and it's my fault.

It's a good job I don't give one. Funny too that the Bolton fans who give me slaughterings will now be buying the Mirror and the People for their news.

I learned a long time ago that you please yourself in this game and I will continue to do so.

We have had two great managers at Bolton Wanderers in the last fifteen years, in my opinion. Bruce Rioch and Sam Allardyce. Hopefully Owen Coyle will be the third. Time will tell.

We lost Bruce Rioch to Arsenal. One media reptile even had the front to stick a microphome under his nose and ask him would he take the job as he celebrated on the pitch with the Bolton players after the defeat of Reading in the play-off final.

We lost Sam Allardyce to Newcastle United after they had shamelessly tapped him up for over two years.

I do not recall any media outcry about how we were treated on either occasion. Burnley will get their next manager in the same manner as we got Coyle. Welcome to the Premier League, Longsider and friends. It's a nasty world, but it's the place to be.

Brian Laws is the favourite on Skybet with Paul Jewell second favourite. The latter would be hilarious as he is bobbins, and a real relegation manager. I'd sneak a pound on Lambert t 10/1 though. He is very ambitious and has no qualms about moving clubs in a short space of time. Gary Speed at 66/1 is a real leftfield choice worth keeping an eye on.

Laws is also the favourite on the other bookies, but they also mention Gary Neville at around 16/1.

Laws, Neville and Lambert dont have their pro license and would need a special dispensation with the mananger enrolling on the course, as was the case with Ince, that takes a few days, a few days which Burnley cant afford!"!

Oh really? I would hate to see you upset...

Really nicko it may appear differently on here but I live in the real world and like all football fans understand to a small degree how these things work. If I am upset at all about this then it is the difference between words and actions. Maybe I bought into the myth more than I should have, left my cynical side behind for a while so yes, maybe some of what I have posted seems bitter but largely I think I have maintained a reasonable balance.

I also don't believe for one second that Burnley operate any differently to other clubs when it comes to appointing managers or signing players etc. I have no doubt that we will (and no doubt have) use the media and any other vehicle to capture any targets we have.

You can forget Neville too. Either, Gary, Phil, Neville or Chamberlain. Not happening.

Lambert must surely have his badge with the SFA..

I would be sick about my manager or favourite player going. I wanted to kick somebody's ar8e in 1972 when Partick Thistle sold Jimmy Bone. Then I found out why he went a few years later...

It happens. Get over it.

The only thing that matters is that Coyley turned your club around and left it in fantastic shape. You might get as lucky again.

Despite it all, I hope you do.
