philipl Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 This thread is going to be fun if we are both looking for Managers at the same time.
dulwich Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I think you need a bit of 'life' about you in the Premier League - for the players, for the fans and for the media. It's ok doing a very good, steady job in a Championship club that is virtually ignored. There is a spotlight in the Premier and you need to be able to handle yourself. It's showbiz these days, like it or not. Right, so are you saying bright lively personality bring bright lively football? And dour personality bring dour football? If so, it explains a lot
nicko Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Right, so are you saying bright lively personality bring bright lively football? And dour personality bring dour football? If so, it explains a lot You need to get the players geed up and believing in you. You need the fans to follow you and believe in you. You need the media to think you are great and quoteable. It's a bit sad, but it's the way it is. O'Driscoll is a very decent man who plays smashing stuff, but it takes more than that these days.
dudedog Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I am still stunned that O'Driscoll is favourite. His record is good, his football is fine. But personality-wise...let's just say I wouldn't be backing him to get the job just yet. so it will be brian laws then, are these the only 2 in the frame as reported on sky?
nicko Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 so it will be brian laws then, are these the only 2 in the frame as reported on sky? I will say it again...Grayson was the first they went for, Laws was standby, O'Driscoll HAD to be met because they had not considered him last time and knew next-to-nothing about him. A lot of these things are about interviews. Coyley skated it last time and beat far bigger names. Put Coyley in with Real Madrid's president and he would get the job. Whoops, shouldn't have let that slip...
Zulu Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 so it will be brian laws then, are these the only 2 in the frame as reported on sky? Aye, Laws should walk it on his personality.
Hughesy Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 O'Driscoll is a very decent man who plays smashing stuff Should fit in well at the Dingle dome then....
nicko Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 O'Driscoll and Laws BOTH being interviewed today. O'Driscoll thinks he has got it and told the Doncaster people he was off. However Laws will be in there shortly. Watch that come out on Sky in the next few minutes.
Backroom Tom Posted January 12, 2010 Backroom Posted January 12, 2010 I'm sure it will be on sky soon, as I'm sure they also have sources who have sources etc It must be said this is the one worrying thing about the Sam scenario, would we be fishing in the same murky pond?
Ricky Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 O'Driscoll and Laws BOTH being interviewed today. O'Driscoll thinks he has got it and told the Doncaster people he was off. However Laws will be in there shortly. Watch that come out on Sky in the next few minutes. I'd read it on BBC News already. It was on there two hours ago http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/burnley/8454402.stm
Backroom Tom Posted January 12, 2010 Backroom Posted January 12, 2010 At least now we know what nicko's source is
Claytons Left Boot Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 You need to get the players geed up and believing in you. You need the fans to follow you and believe in you. You need the media to think you are great and quoteable. I'm worried, very worried. I've just read that from a Blackburn Rovers perspective..... I think what you say is correct, nicko, and none of it seems to apply to us.
T4E Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I'm sure it will be on sky soon, as I'm sure they also have sources who have sources etc It must be said this is the one worrying thing about the Sam scenario, would we be fishing in the same murky pond? Certainly not - we have a much greater reputation - we're known in Europe for a start which Burnley are not.
longsiders1882 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 we're known in Europe for a start which Burnley are not. This is quite true - few people can forget the sight of the Rovers players knocking ten bells out of each other.
nicko Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I'd read it on BBC News already. It was on there two hours ago http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/burnley/8454402.stm Yes, Laws 'has been' interviewed. He is also 'being' interviewed again right now. So it's at the interview stage... And O'Driscoll isn't past the post as Sky have been suggesting. In fact it wouldn't shock me if we had a double Devon Loch here.
Backroom Tom Posted January 12, 2010 Backroom Posted January 12, 2010 I'm going to be honest I barely know who those two guys are I'd be very underwhelmed if I was a Burnley fan right now
Majiball Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Well Holloway has bags of personality He's alright as a boss creates a great working environment. what about Tisdale at Exeter, forward thinking and a good enough coach to see The Minows rise two leagues in two years with basically the same team & budget. He's defo one for the future.
Hughesy Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Can anyone access the latest odds on the dingle job? What are the top 4 favs and what odds if you could?!
longsiders1882 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Yes, Laws 'has been' interviewed. He is also 'being' interviewed again right now. So it's at the interview stage... And O'Driscoll isn't past the post as Sky have been suggesting. In fact it wouldn't shock me if we had a double Devon Loch here. Had to google Devon Loch - interesting theory.
T4E Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 This is quite true - few people can forget the sight of the Rovers players knocking ten bells out of each other. I've come to realise that you only tend to resort to irrelevant jibes when you've run out of meaningful things to say. It does you no credit.
nicko Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 The plot thickens. A third manager had a call BETWEEN the two interviews today.
longsiders1882 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I've come to realise that you only tend to resort to irrelevant jibes when you've run out of meaningful things to say. It does you no credit. Oh come now - it was banter and was in direct response to a statement about Rovers being known in Europe. It was just a bit of fun for gods sake.
BRFCGrez Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 A name we might get some good odds on Nicko?
jodrell Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Had to google Devon Loch - interesting theory. Which one the horse racing one? or the football one? (Fergie)
