Am I the only one on here who looks forward in the transfer window and other times to Nickos posts, We are a fortunate to have him on our messageboard and I am not hyping him up, but as far as football journalists go, is one of the most accurate, many play guessing games, Nicko has genuine contacts built up over the years!!

So from me Nicko, keep up the postings, I enjoy them and in most cases are quite informative.

i was sceptical at first about nicko`s input, but it seems harmless enough to me and a good source of info for us rovers fans. there`s no need to feel anything other than gratitude towards nicko for the time he takes out of his doubtless busy schedule keeping us up to speed with things. it`s also good to have the occasional dialogue with him on footy issues, i don`t always agree with what his views are(e.g. i don`t think davies will be a coyle type player, whereas nicko does), but that`s what it`s all about imo, opinions.

i don`t think the moderators are currently being held up as hate figures, are they? i`ve posted just to offer nicko some support after the ridiculous stuff i`ve seen written aimed towards him this week.

Never read the papers and never will, as for his posts on here, well lets just say that it seems nicko has a thing for never being wrong (and he very rarely is) so his posts are usually nail on.

One thing people need to understand is the role he plays on here, his posts either wet the appetite for more or influence you enough into thinking his way depending on where the info came from in the first place.

He is a journo plain and simple who does his job well and has very good connections, his posts always have a non empathy feel to them which I enjoy, but anyone who takes a journo as gospel needs to understand how they work in the first place.

nobody can influence me to think their way overall. as far as i can see he posts insider info on transfers that could transpire based on what he`s heard, either they happen or don`t.

i don`t take everything he says as gospel as i still yet believe kevin davies to rovers could be a possibility again now imo if bolton could sign fletcher from burnley.

Well there are people that dont get influenced by what is written in the press and it would seem that you are one of them and for what I have read of nicko's posts they are as you say good insider info.

You think nicko enjoys scouring his sources to bring you info for free? In some shape or form his info serves other purposes for which I am happy to stay ignorant too.

Now I wonder why Nicko chucks his weight around like that on this site in response to something totally harmless, when half a dozen other sites and hundreds of B*rnley posters are quite happily dragging his name through the dirt in the most offensive ways imaginable ...

On the subject of the press generally it seems there are a few different camps of football fan:

- people who believe every word they read in every paper, no matter how unlikely.

- people who think newspapers are their enemy and every word is made up to sell papers, and the hacks are all sitting in the pub laughing at the idiots who buy their rubbish

- people who believe everything positive about their club and then shoot the messenger behind negative stories, even if they turn out to be true

- the majority who understand the place the press has in football

I don't believe there are many football reporters who flat out invent every word they print - they wouldn't last long before they got found out. There are absolutely reporters and papers that have poor quality connections and as a result will turn in anything they're spoon fed by agents etc. just so they have something for their editor when deadline rolls around.

As much as he'd protest otherwise, Nicko is occasionally wrong. I don't believe for a second that he's wrong on purpose, as some people occasionally accuse him of. As a reporter specialising in transfer scoops, why ruin a current or potential relationship with an agent or club by making something up that damages them in the public eye?

As far as nicko's "motives" for posting here, I would speculate that he enjoys the interaction with fans, gets to see up close and personal the impact of his stories on the man on the street (far more direct discussion than hanging around a newsagent, or reading the odd comment on the mirror site), and most importantly picks up a fair few valuable tips in return. Without wanting to sound like too much of a "Nicko-teen", having an outed professional (semi-) insider around the place can only improve the message board, can't it? The transfer threads would certainly be a lot slower without his input, and even the "will there be an 11 o clocker?" / "is it true we're signing Eidur Gudjohnsen?" type questions seem to be a lot less prevalent this window.

I think more reporters should follow nicko's lead - it might make the relationship between supporters and the press a lot better. (Folk working for Express Newspapers need not apply, though...)

I'm very appreciative of Nicko's posts. He usually has good information and isn't unreasonable about sharing it. This in turn has lead me to bookmark the Mirror Football website. I read his stories as well as those of his peers.

As for this site, I think its almost the equivalent of the pub. Fans can talk about the football in general and the Rovers specifically, which I think would help a journalist keep the pulse of the community. On the plus side, there is no hefty bar tab, when people become obnoxious you can put them on ignore, you can take your time about asking or answering questions, and there is no drive home battling an alcohol haze. On the downside, the beer is limited to what you have in the fridge (and I am currently out, thanks to my beer thief of a brother). So I can see why Nicko would enjoy interacting on this site, and why others associated with the club may browse it anonymously from time to time.

Agreed, and for the record I think having Nicko on is a hugeplus, I find it all fascinating to be honest and I hope he stays on here to keep us candidly informed, I for one very much appreciate it.

Agreed. His posts are interesting. Considering his job, he does not have to do what he does coming on here. Anyway he's upset the dingles so a few more bonus points for that. Please keep up the work Nicko.

I agree Kelbo. The amazing thing about him is that he has never been snapped up by a proper newspaper.

Apologies, I just logged on and saw what I put had gone and your were quoting Nicko who seemed to be threatening someone with libel court action.

I have no idea what the snapback button is, so I'll just have to be content with your judgement apparently.
