I had a dream last night that we were so skint, we had to buy a female striker.

Even wierder, it was Santa Cruz's girlfriend.

Ah what a cunning response the fans' criticism over choice of formation.

Sam could claim to have two up top.

Skysports News are reporting that West Ham have bid £1.25m for Benni ?

Have you heard anything of this ?

There is a fair amount of interest in Benni right now.

Rovers want £3 million, so West Ham are 'having a laugh.'

I get the feeling this one will run and run a bit yet.

£3 million for Benni - that would be a great deal.

I'd suspect those funds would be used for Beattie or is that just another one of those rumoured but never materialises kinda links !??

Thanks for the update Nicko !

Benni for Beattie?

I think I'd shoot myself.

You are totally right Jackson!

Who in the name of all that is pure would we bring in for £3 million to replace Benni!? Crazy. I think there are some 'Oooh signing new players is exciting' supporters on here not thinking things through.

Actually I totally forgot how this club works...I should have said:

Who in the name of Kevin Gallagher are we going to sign with the £50,000 that the board release from the Benni deal?

Andrews is willing to work hard.

Two posts in a row I've loved. Congrats, you made it onto the favourites list.

I'm totally floored by anyone that would have Beattie over Benni. Mccarthy is lazy but he is by far the most naturally gifted striker we have and if given the playing time to do so, will prove that is work rate is often counteracted by his ability. I will make no attempt to defend his 456,696 offsides every 90 mins though.

Benni has been absolutely rubbish for Rovers all season so what's the good in keeping him. He

also doesn't seem too interested in trying to get himself fitter and actually proving a point

to Allardyce.

Apart from the odd good set piece delivery - he's useless.

Beattie would actually suit our style of play. ( A style that I agree is terrible )

Fair point on the actual amount the board would release for any transfers.

I suspect the same.

As I've already said (and been slated for) I think it'd be a good deal for both clubs and the

player.

Andrews is willing to work hard.

Last I checked he wasn't playing up front ?

You rate work ethic over natural ability?

Would you rather we have Dickov, Kuqi or McCarthy? One word answer please

Are you serious or is this a wind up?

Benni McCarthy has played seven league games this season, all seven as a sub! Di Santo has played fourteen games (12 full games). Both players have scored one goal. Does it not make logical sense to presume that there is a distinct possibility that Benni would score more goals if given more match time?

Beattie would fit into our playing style at the moment, I agree. A playing style which is making us a running joke amongst the Premiership, leading to heavy losses, poor attendances and fans calling for an end to current management. It is a great idea to spend £3,000,000 on continuing such a successful style!

First off, yes I'm serious. I'm telling you that in my opinion, Beattie would be better for

us than Benni.

Secondly, I agree that Di Santo has been poor for Rovers, but where are you getting Franco from

because I'm not arguing about his lack of goals.

I really don't think you could argue that Benni would have scored more goals if given more

starts - that's conjecture. Maybe he would or maybe he'd carry on with his usual form and

basically coast through games with the usual lack of interest and effort, occasionally interupted

by a wayward backheel or attempted spin.

Finally, I agree that our style of play is terrible but can you honestly see Sam changing it?

I think rather than change it, he'd be happier to move on a player he obviously doesn't rate and

maybe replace him with a striker that he actually does rate and thinks would fit in with his style

and system.

It's great that you get slated for offering an opinion !

You can have all the natural ability in the world but without the work ethic it counts for little...however those players without as much ability but who put in the effort are of far more use to a club like us. Players like Dickov or Savage may be of limited ability technically but they put in 100% every game and the fans expect at least that. There is no point being able to do the fancy flicks etc if you cant be arsed chasing after the ball when you give it away.

Players like Rooney and Tevez understand this principle and whilst both are technically very good they also both put in a shift on a match day - if Benni understood this he would have more illustrious clubs on his CV than he has.

I think Benni is very gifted but equally very lazy and therefore only does half a job and if we can get £3m for him then Id take it.

Sorry mate! I didn't mean to slate you! I was just conirming whether you were joking or not. You were being serious so that is fair enough! We'll have to agree to disagree!

Well that's funny because he started against Fulham...

Apologies! Read the stats incorrectly! The majority of my point still stands!

Its a mutual agreement here...Benni is obviously playing for a move and we're benefiting to a point from his newly found zest in January

If he don't get a move, we'll be back to Lazty Bar Steward for the rest of the season...

Bit sad though.....I'd take Beattie over him anytime...we need a bit of Gung-Ho attitude injecting into the side and I'd like to see Beattie and Kalinic together up front. :rover:

Essentially it is just a straight swap for Beattie.

Are you okay with that?

I dont agree that it is a straight swap for Beattie as they are different types of players but yes Id be ok with that.

Beattie would at least lead the line where as Benni drops deep to collect the ball leaving nobody up front and the defenders with an easy job of clearing. He has more of a physical presence than Benni and is arguably better in the air - something which he will need to be given the way we play at the minute

Plus all that stuff about him being local and Rovers being his team etc may (and I know its a big 'may') encourage him to put the effort in and show that he cares, something Benni seldom does!
