But Boro fans couldn't stand him and he had far more support from his Board in the transfer market than is available to a Rovers manager now. Personally I thought he was a twit.

That's true though I seem to remember it was because they didn't like his signings. He took Boro' a club with roughly similar finances into Europe and they seemed really consistent with form. I'm not personally trying to shove BS out the door, personally i'd be happy with his long ball as long as we were winning. The problem that Sam has is if that fails, there is no other positive aspect of his management. Other managers can lose but still receive praise for an attempt to play the game in an entertaining fashion, when Sam loses, there is nothing to defend.

Personally, I will be doing all I can to spur the team on tonight and Sunday but if the performance is as bad as the City game then I will start booing. I understand people who say booing is unproductive. However, if i'm going to pay money to watch the same dross that turned out for the City game then I will be booing. The only other option would be to boycott games but I don't want to financially hurt the club.

There's nothing to suggest Bilic is a PL manager, so to call him the "ideal candidate" at any point seems strange.

I realised that he would have represented a big gamble at the time. But so was everybody else under consideration. He seemed a bold and exciting option but unfortunately kept re-iterating that managing in the Prem was not what he wanted.

Who cares what he did when having to work with those useless, overpaid, idiots who seem incpable of working together anyway.

I'd have him here tomorrow.

Forget the iunternational debacle cos he was taking Boro down and down every season. Just as the mags got us out of a sticky situation with souness so did the FA with Boro. Gibson must have been laughing all the way to the bank.

Not with league position he didn't. Boro beat Notlob in the carling cup I seem to rem.

Mclaren wont leave Twente hes well liked there and seems to be doing well for himself why would he come to us?

More likely we will end up with Souness till the end of the season seeming as he and JW are friends i wouldnt be suprised if he hasnt already had a phone call.

Forgot to mention Twente are on course to win their first title since 1926 very much doubt he will give up on a chance of history making to come to a club with no money and in a relegation battle.

I've said it before, I really don't think Souey wants it.

In fact, he might even have been offered the job before Allardyce.

If things get really bad (there already?) then it won't matter about alternatives, he'll just have to go because we'll be in a tailspin, and he won't be able to pull us out.

A caretaker typically gets decent results because of the "new manager" effect. if two games hence allardyce is gone, that effect will hopefully kick in and give us the momentum to stave off relegation.

Managers have been sacked for less than what we've seen this season. If he gets fired from teh cannon in two games' time, he can't really have any complaints.

I think it that, as you say, the 'new manager effect' takes hold WHILE also causing minimum disruption to the team's set-up. I think Neil McDonald might actually be a good shout should we need to rid ourselves of Allardyce.

Souness was taking us down before he left, why would we want him back.

I dont think Sam will get sacked anytime soon, I just hope he realises that the fans the players and probably the board want to s

see some good football. Not this boring hoof it and run, percentage dross that has been served up for the last three months.

Give us something to cheer Sam!!!!!!!!

I think I could replace Sam right now.

put Benni alongside Kalinic, play Hoilett down the right, with Bert at right back … Grella and Dunny in midfield and try Olssen down the left

Robbo

Emerton Samba Givet Chimbonda

Hoilett Grella Dunn Olssen

Benni Kalinic

I think we should all have a day off hammering the manager and talking about his possible successor, with it being cup semi final day and all that.

Lets think positive thoughts, difficult I know but give it a go :tu:

Spot on GAV - although if the result isnt good tonight, I cant see it lasting for the day.... maybe until about 9.30

You'd have to be renamed 'Jesus' if you could manage to heal Grella Iceman!

 ,well its taking into consideration that Grella was fit… If not, then Nzonzi alongside Dunny, or Jacobsen coming in for Bert and moving Bert alongside Dunny.

Then ill tell the players, now go and make Abbey happy and pass the ball on the ground. Any player who allows the ball to go a centimetre off the ground, will be fined :)

Just to throw a random name into the managerial guessing game (should we sack Sam)....what is Rijkaard** up to these days? Would he come on (somewhat low, I admit) wages to get his chance to manage in the Prem?

** I don't THINK it will happen, I'm throwing up a name and seeing if someone catches it.

That tactic would be as bad as what we see at the moment though. We need a mixture of longer balls, short passing, balls in the air, balls on the ground, short throws, long throws, corners that drop to the near post (having cleared the first defender) corners that reach the far post, ones that drop in the middle of the box, ones that swing ou/in etc etc etc. It's the one dimensional nature of our play that makes us so easy to defend against. Good sides keep the opposition guessing. Obviously the weaker you squad the more you tend to stick to one style of play but we should have enough flexibility to be able to vary our play more than we do at the moment

Do you really think Sam cares about the fans? He's in it for himself. I doubt he cares about the players either, they certainly don't look like they are having fun playing 'football'. The board maybe care, but they are mainly bothered about balancing the books not about the style of football.

I would also like Steve McClaren.

I hated him after the England debacle, but I respect how he got on with things after this. He has now got a good team at Twente and I think he is a very good alternative.

"McClaren",congratulations, so far thats the best joke of the year.

Until circumstances become desperate and any alternative would be preferrable over Allardyce, then we should stick with him.

Given that the majority of fans think we are at that stage now, or at best will be if we lose on Sunday, then a bit of contingency planning is sensible I'd say.

I'm sure the board will already have drawn up a shortlist should it be required.

But after Hughes, there are no stand-out candidates (at least that I can think of).....that list will be a long one. Unless they've already tapped someone up?

Yeah I think there's a stipulation that states Mark Hughes' compensation rest on how long he's out of a job for. Therefore, if he took a job on now he collect far less.

Who do we think would be on a managerial shortlist?

Curbishley

Hughes

Souness

Dalglish

Shearer

Henk Ten Cate..? (Or has he got another job)
