If that's the short list the outstanding candidate (presuming Hughes wouldn't be interested) is Curbishley.

Actually scrap that he failed at West Ham with a fairly decent squad ( Upson, Parker , Cole ). I doubt hed be able to much with the squad we have.

Infact the only name on the list above that might come is Shearer but he has no valuable experience whatsoever of managment( 8 games at newcastle shoudlnt count)

I can't believe you are not pushing for the Ginger Mourinho. Most of the popular press told us how stupid we were to let him go.(Something about us being a Championship club punching above our weight as I recall.) If he's that good why does nobody else want him?

Tell you what Zulu.........you're pushing to get Allardyce back, so we'll let you have him in a straight swop for Coyle (no cash adjustment either way). Can't say fairer than that. Shall I wrap him, or will you take him as he is?

Yeah I think there's a stipulation that states Mark Hughes' compensation rest on how long he's out of a job for. Therefore, if he took a job on now he collect far less.

Who do we think would be on a managerial shortlist?

Curbishley

Hughes

Souness

Dalglish

Shearer

Henk Ten Cate..? (Or has he got another job)

Daglish?!

And Souness would also never come back either :brfc:

Ten bob was sacked so is out of work

Could probably add - Laudrup, Trapatoni, Worthington, Megson, Jewell as other people who would be on the application list.

Don't forget the Wally with the Brolly.

He'd never leave Twente when they're top of the Dutch league to come here. In fact, I'm sure he said recently he wants to still managing on the continent for a while and try his luck in another country after Holland. Shame because he'd be very good for us.

I can't stand all these sentimental names being dropped. Souness was taking us down before he left the first time, he'd make sure he finished that job if he returned.

Admittedly it would be nice to have someone appointed who everyone would immediately warm to, it's been very hard work with Sam since day one because of his prior reputation. Craig Short or Henning Berg with an experienced assistant would be my shout (a bit like the Zola/Clarke setup). Paul Hart might be getting the boot from QPR...he'd probably be okay.

I could get on board with Berg, he's been managing for a while. Souness no thanks, and the rest of the ex players as well. They just don't either have enough experience or have been away for too long. Trapatoni as interim OK but does he want the day to day dealings of league football? He may even play Keith more as well? No one from the lower leagues really floats my boat they are all big gambles.

Unfortunatly the best deal is for Sam to change and some back room additions be made. But if he's lost the changing room what choice do we have? If the crowd turns as well? Then there's really no choice.

Scandinvians are very forward thinking in there coaching and if Hennings like any of the ones I know he'll be very driven in pursuit of his goals. So he appeals but his lack of premiership experience as a manager could be an issue. Laudrup could be an option but didn't do well in his last job, no idea why? But you also have to remember we most likely won't appoint a forgein manager, so the choice is rather poor. Berg being an ex-player may buck that trend should the need arise.

Today's game is critical. A poor performance would be a bad omen before Sunday's all important league game. I would not be surprised if the board sacked Sam tomorrow if the team doesn't play to its potential today. If a change of management is in the wind, the new manager will need as the largest pool of possible points to turn things around.

Do you really think Sam cares about the fans? He's in it for himself. I doubt he cares about the players either, they certainly don't look like they are having fun playing 'football'. The board maybe care, but they are mainly bothered about balancing the books not about the style of football.

You could apply that to Lpool. I dare say to Burnley too.

Who do we think would be on a managerial shortlist?

Curbishley

Hughes

Souness

Dalglish

Shearer

They've all been sacked at some time or other....apart from Shearer whos sacked himself.

Out of the names mentioned on here, Henning is the one that I would have a punt on, has he ever been in the running before though, has he been interviewed in the past, this would have to be a swift appointment to stand any chance of working, faster than an easyjet turn around with no delays.

If we end up getting rid of Sam, replacing him will be difficult, as we know. Proven premiership managers are going to be already in jobs or out of our reach. Going down a league is risky. I'd take a chance with a foreign coach who wants to try his hand in England, though again there have been a few disasters with other teams and highly rated foreign coaches, Ramos springs to mind. I'm glad I don't have the job of searching for a new manager because unless we get a load of money to use on a big name, it's going to a risk.

I've said Holloway so many times, it's beginning to appeal. Be VERY glad I'm not deciding anything.

Tell you what - no! B)

I'm not pushing to get Sam back. I'm very happy with how the musical chairs have ended up. (Until the music starts again, as it always does.) I still think Allardyce is your best shot, by the way. I said on here quite a while ago that your options post-Allardyce would be limited and I was right. Your shortlist is virtually identical to ours. If we had not gone for Coyle I have no doubt that he would been at or near the top of your wish-list - despite his Burnley connections.

So I presume this performance buys Allardyce some more time?

I've gone from 50-50 to SAM HAS TO GO.

The first half was a shambles and we haven't competed from the first minute in any of this 12 game winless streak.

Poor tactics, poor team selection, the players don't believe in what they're being instructed to do.

Times up Sam.

The players were spirited second half and you can see how much they prefer it when they're knocking it about on the deck.

Sam's stubborn 4-5-1 fails AGAIN. The fact that he had the brass neck to use it again tonight shows how obstinate and arrogant he is.

SACK.

Once again, Sam approached the game negatively, and as someone put it: his will to avoid defeat far outweighs his hunger to win. He's stranded in the methodical numbers game, relying on Robinson's hoof balls and Pedersen's impotent long throws - both of which play into the opposition's hands. Yet Sam will continue to shove square pegs into round holes until he finally leaves Ewood. He has no idea what his preferred line up is, plays some players in the wrong positions, drops others randomly, and despite a spirited fight back in the second half it was too little too late. We shouldn't have to wait till we're on the back-foot before we start playing.

I was a strong supporter of Sam when he took over, but he's really looking clueless and isn't learning from his lessons.

He seems determined to make his 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 formation work. The players clearly do not share the same enthusiasm. Every team has a 'home' tactic that is supposed to play to their strengths - not only do we have a tactic that doesn't play to any of our strengths, but Sam persists with it even when it's blatently obvious we're much better playing the ball on the deck and to the wingmen.

I'd put up with this formation away from home (even though in truth we've had even less success away from home than at home) but if we're playing at home we should be attacking the opposition regardless of who they are. Our game-plan is negative and defensive, no matter who or where we're playing. We invite pressure onto ourselves, and we're unable to cope with that pressure, as our goals against column to shamefully shows.

Sam needs to understand that we are not Bolton Wanderers, and we can't play that way successfully, that much is painfully obvious. Change is in order, and if Sam can't change then I'm afraid he needs to make way for somebody who can envision something a little better than the dross we're being forced to endure every week with no end result.

The two big questions are: Do we have the money to sack him, and who the hell do we get in?

I don't really want to answer either of them, because I think it'll just depress me. I'll just continue to blindly hope that he'll see the light and change things against Fulham. Sad thing is, the second half performance probably convinced him he's doing OK.
