Hasta Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Barcelona need to beat Granada live on Sky Sports at 4pm to win La Liga. Only Ruben Rochina stands in their way. Quote
Salgado Is Still A Hero Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 Rochina to score first, Granada to win is 170/1. Some things are just written in the stars. Quote
A cup of beans Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) Tense in Serie A tonight. Spare a thought for little Carpi who are winning 2nil at Udine. As it stands it won't be enough. Palermo are winning against relegated Verona. A mental struggle for them, though. 10 aside. Sutton commentating. I'd give you all an overview of Palermo's coaching merry go round, but I'd be here til midnight. Edited May 15, 2016 by A cup of beans Quote
Stuart Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Mass Hibs (and Rangers minority) pitch invasion at Hampden. Mounted police having to keep both sets of fans apart. Probably repurcussions which is a shame. Quote
Salgado Is Still A Hero Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Hibs fans have a pitch invasion like you see all the time, but Rangers are sore losers. Luckily not a repeat of the 1980 one though. 114 years without winning the cup, losing 10 finals in that time, including a 5-1 hammering by their biggest rivals Hearts a few years ago. Great game of football. Quote
Stuart Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 You don't tend to see them in national stadia though. Quote

Absolutely shocking scenes and no deserved lap of honour for Hibs. Quote
A cup of beans Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 I've had a shocking nights football. Milan lost the cup final In extra time. Then Nyc lost the Hudson derby 7-0. SEVEN! Quote
alexanders Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Its very sad. Messi was devestated after the final tonight. But what a final! Makes the Euro look like an all star game. Way to much tactics and not enough passion for my liking in the Euros. Quote
Audax Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I think at some time, Messi will be back. This is a sign of frustration and a lot of people are clamouring for him to change his mind. I'm viewing this more as a break from International Football. A year off maybe? Quote
Audax Posted July 14, 2016 Posted July 14, 2016 What a surprise, Georgios Samaras plays for a tiny club like Oklahoma City now; what an odd place for him to be playing at. From Man City to Celtic to West Brom to some Arab league now to OK City. http://uk.soccerway.com/players/georgios-samaras/2862/ And I watched some of this game. It still looks like he played for Greece this year on their national team. Good hearted player though, I wish him the best; he did some sort of real charitable thing I think at that World Cup in Brazil a few years ago. Quote
Audax Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) Joe Cole, beautiful bicycle kick on Saturday. http://www.goal.com/en-us/news/13732/extra-time/2016/07/16/25697452/joe-cole-scores-with-incredible-overhead-finish 34 and currently playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies; maybe these fellows get long in the tooth but what a goal! What talent. This is amazing and the film clip is at the above link. Maybe the players slow down, fall out of favour or maybe somehow he went for a better salary, the crowd is not big, see background below but whatever it is, impressive. I know, it's more like where these players go to finish their careers. I think in the heyday of the NASL, North American Soccer League when people like Pele, Beckenbauer, Bobby Moore and others went to play, Tampa Bay Rowdies were a good team. Moore may have played for them in the '70s but in the meantime, most of those teams totally went under and out of business. And let's not forget that Ken Furphy and at least two of his Rovers side were prominent in USA football in that era - Tony Field and David Bradford. I may be wrong but I seem to recall that Field played alongside Pele? 2 Quote

blueboy3333 Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Duncan Mckenzie left Rovers to try his luck in the NASL, first with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulsa_Roughnecks_(1978%E2%80%931984) and then https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Sting Just finished reading his autobiog 'The Last Fancy Dan'. Although he said he enjoyed his time here, he didn't seem to like Rovers fans, who he called 'dour' and having 'a negative attitude' (was this board going in the late '70's?!) . He relates a story of one old bloke telling him ' Whe you can see Darwin Hill it's a sign of rain, and when you can't it's already raining' Shocking anecdote, and he spelt Darwen wrong. He also relates a story about the Board not stumping up the cash for a 'players pool for spending money' on an end of season promotion-winning jaunt to Majorca, and Jimmy Branagan having to have a whip round all the players. Early in the trip Garner was getting in late hammered and singing loudly in the hotel and generally making a 'nuisance of himself' so Howard Kendall threatened to send him home (and tell the local press). At the end of the week in the airport Kendall congratulated Garner on not behaving badly for the rest of the break. Garner informed him he'd just slept on the beach all week instead! The 'lads cracked up'. That's the best bit of the book. The legend of Sir Simon. McKenzie said he left cos HK needed to bring another striker in but had to let someone go to finance it. HK described the boards decision as a 'hammer blow'. Who did we bring in and did it cost us a consecutive promotion? 1 Quote

Could well have been https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viv_Busby listed as playing for us between 1981-82. Viv wasn't the greatest signing, 8 games 1 goal. He had a long career in management and coaching after he hung up his boots, survived cancer and then went off to retire in Spain. Every credit. Quote

Certainly could be career ending, let's hope he can come back from it. 1 Quote
Stuart Posted July 17, 2016 Posted July 17, 2016 Really nasty challenge really. Can't decide if it was just late or just to bring him down. Obviously he didn't intend to snap his tibia in half but the ball had long gone. Quote

Anyone who has played 5/7/11 a side against even a league 1 striker will tell you the difference in quality. 3 Quote
