Pathetic......if it was a Rover then the commentator would call Rafael stupid.

He was stupid....his 1st was a pathetic trip where it was a clear yellow minimum, the 2nd was another clear yellow - young & naive - no point blaming the opponents

There's no doubt it was a red card, but the referee was very lenient with the Bayern players. Van Bommel should have gone in the first half by the standards he set in the second. He had done quite well up to then, he really could have just gone to Rafael and given him a final warning.

Really? You realise they had 10 men for 40 minutes and went down to a fantastic volley, right?

Bayern weren't in that game playing against 11.

It's not so much that they went out, it's that they did not touch the ball in the 2nd half. That is inexcusable, 10 men or not. Especially considering they were at home and had taken a 3-0 lead.

United had their chances but couldn't put them away. Bayern created far fewer chances over the two legs and put them away.

No surprise to hear Ferguson moaning about his player getting sent off, the referee had no option, he tried to pull back Reibery(sp) and had to be booked. If United had kept 11 men they would most likely have won, but credit to Bayern, they hung in there during the first half and get their rewards in the second half.

Disappointing for the Premier League not to have anyone in the semis.

Let's just hope we don't get the backlash. If I'm not wrong they have now lost 3 on the trot now that doesn't happen often. Keep the faith we might make it four.

Well, they did actually win the game, even though they lost on aggregate.

Anyways..let's stuff them..

Great night's entertainment.

Fergie kept it quiet about Rooney starting on purpose, then it came back to bite him on the ass as he was limping around from about halfway through the first half. Then comes out with the "typical Germans" comment which could be deemed racist.

He made a mistake taking Rooney off and only replacing him with a defender. He needed a forward on also, you invite too much pressure with no forward on the pitch.

Wrong. They had to replace Rooney and down to ten men, they had to put a defender on. Its very very easy to say that they should have put a forward on because they conceded 10 minutes later but it was the right decision at the time.

I'm with Bucky. Fletcher can play right-back. They had to bring another forward on for Rooney. Bayern were always going to score having that much pressure.

What are you talking about? Have you ever seen a team win without a forward for 40 minutes? They were sat so deep and had no outlet to hold up the ball.

I said it well before they scored and thought it wouldn't do them any favours.

Just switched over and saw the three stooges crying in the studio which instantly made me happy cos then I knew the t**ts had lost.

Good song for Sunday - "3-0, and you f**ked it up ..."

Can't be racist as Germans aren't a race. Xenophobic perhaps, but not racist.

And who would have held the ball up? Berbatov? Macheda? It made sense at the time. Do Nani and Valencia not count as forwards? Rooney couldnt run for the last 10 mins of the first half so it wasnt as if he contributed that much. The faults that led to Man Utd's downfall werent down to the sub it was down to the lack of control in the midfield. Carrick and Fletcher didnt get a touch in the last 20 minutes.

I bet Mark is annoyed he turned the tv off.

Lol.

I watched half of 'The Pacific' (excellent as it happens), then switched on just as Rafael was walking off. Wanted to watch the rest, but just knew if I did it would jinx it and Bayern wouldn't score, so watched something else for half an hour. It worked - switched on to see Townsend and the other 2 bawling in the studio ..... good times. :tu: Shame I missed Tyldesley crying though ....

Not true.

Racial group – this means any group of people who are defined by reference to their race, colour, nationality (including citizenship) or ethnic or national origin. This could include Gypsies and Travellers, refugees, or asylum seekers or others from less visible minorities. There has been a legal ruling that Jews and Sikhs are included in the definition of racial group.

or maybe United's decision not to strengthen in the strikers department cost them here. They've got Rooney, Berabtov and Owen (as always had injury problems) as their three main strikers. Apart from thoose three they are very thin in terms of out and out strikers and neither Berbatov or Owen are particularly suited to a lone striking role. That was shown when they chose to play with not strikers after the sending off, got to say Bayern Munich kept the ball well and tried to work the space (something we should have been doing against Pompey).

Obviously have to accept the CPS for their legal definition there, but that isn't true across the world.

For example UNESCO:

"Xenophobia and racism often overlap, but are distinct phenomena. Whereas racism usually entails distinction based on physical characteristic differences, such as skin colour, hair type, facial features, etc, xenophobia implies behaviour based on the idea that the other is foreign to or originates from outside the community or nation."

which I think is a far truer definition of both terms.

True. Although United were down to 10 men it looked like they were down to 6/7 due to how easy it was for Bayern to pass around them. Last year United had Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez and Berbatov. 4 very different types of match winners. Tonight they had one half fit and the other only coming on in the last 10 mins. Nani/Valencia cant win matches on their own unlike the previous 4 (although Berba still hasn't shown the form of his Spurs days yet, and that is the difference. Without Rooney they cannot afford to have 2/3 players underperforming. That is what happened tonight.

Can we not just all agree that Ferguson is a whinging sore loser and be happy about it?
