What do you mean by same difference?

That it's not the same, it's different?

You said that captains were supposed to be the only players that can talk to refs, which is what my response was about. You were incorrect, weren't you?

Terry driven mad by 'really bad' European referees

It says, "When decisions are made, the captain is allowed to go to talk to the referee."

That kind of implies that the captain is the only player allowed to talk to the referee

No, it doesn't.

In any event, since when does John Terry write the laws of the game?

Try again.

He must know the rules if he's said that, but then again he could have just made it up. I'll believe anything.

I have seen a number of occasions this season where the ref calls over the captain when things are getting out of hand. There is definately more emphasis on speaking to the captain directly at the moment, I think part of the Fair Play initiative.

It is not cut and dried like Rugby though.

Why must he know the rules? In any event, whether John Terry knows the rules of the game is not the subject matter at hand.

That quote does not preclude other players talking to the ref in any event. This does not support your point.

Are the captains the only player that are supposed to talk to the ref. A simple yes or no?

I know. The ref will call the captains together for a chat. It's happened for years. I have been involved in numerous games where that has occurred. That does not mean that other players cannot talk to the ref.

I understand what you're saying Dan like when the referee books a player who isn't the captain they can talk to the referee in that case, but I didn't mean it like that. For example when Pedersen was poked in the eye and the players all gathered round and approached the referee, it's times like that I thought the captain was the only player allowed to speak to the referee.

I think it'd be an excellent rule to bring in, TBH, given the crowding and blatent attempts to influence refs that go on.

I used to have a quiet word with refs to keep an eye out for something specific, such as when a defender was giving me a sly push in the back (or dig in the ribs!) The refs generally took it on board and kept an eye out for it. The modern, professional game seems a million miles away from my days on Bullough Park etc in the 90s. It's probably a million miles away from Bullough Park even today!

It should probably be borne in mind that I'd also like to see a ban on players swearing, so I suspect that my views are unrealistic, unfortunately.

I got excited when I saw there was 3 more pages added since I last looked at the thread. Thought there may have been some gossip, how wrong was I...

Sorry, Benny. I should probably have PMed RIML!

Not marquee signings we crave, but Rovers have apparently signed two players from Man City (youth players released) ans have also signed another Chorley lad from the local leagues who has previously interested both manure and liverpoo.
