A bit bizarre to buy players just because they are Australian?! Anyhow good news for us, if we can sell him for anything at all I would be happy. He is the wrong side of 30, an okay player (not particularly bad or good), and injury prone. He has given us next to nothing this year.

I would rather keep Andrews because Jug ears is at least available and seems to be improving.

They can only have Grella if they drop their interest in Guti and get him to sign for us. :xmas:

If any club comes in for him I hope to god, that Sam sells him. We must start getting players who can do their job and play regularly. What a difference it would make if we could have most of our better players available for most of the season.

Interesting question for you all.

Would you swap Samba for a 15-20 goal a season striker?

No. With Jones and Hanley coming good we won't need Samba (or Nelsen) forever, but we should hold on to both for at least a year or two. We don't want to overburden Jones or Hanley, and getting them a 10-20 games next season should do wonders for their developement while pushing them into the pressure cooker 24/7 may erode it.

And we don't need a 15-20 goal striker to move up the table. I think a 10-15 goal striker would have earned us a spot or two higher alone. Besides, we can't afford a top drawer striker even with a Samba sale.

It's important that we continue to build from the back. Our back four is solid (though a quality left back would only improve matters). With Reid and MGP moving on, and possibly Grella, and in light of Dunn and Emerton's perpetual injured status, we need 1-3 midfielders to replace them (toward the lower number if Olsen if envisioned as a left winger and not a defender). As to strikers, Roberts plays his role well (though apparently reluctantly) and Kalinic will only improve. So one more striker is all that is truly needed, though two would not be out of order.

Despite the foregoing, Sam has earned our trust. If he wants to sign another 4 right backs, I'm for it.

I think it depends who. Is it someone who's scored that in the Premier League?

I'd swap him for Rooney or Drogba!!

I thought that was the main assumption; someone who either has, or can score 15-20 in the Premier league. If it wasn't then no thanks. We could get a Sunday League player a la Grabbi.

Many of you will not like this post, its always nice to get new players into our team but this year, for the first time for a few years, we dont have to sell, its important we keep the first team squad together for continuity. Offload Zurab and Reid, maybe a keeper and possibly Chimbonda, then keep the rest and add a couple of players. We can then start the pre season with basically a known starting squad and work through tactics etc from there.

Keep Pedersen, Samba, Grella even and with two new faces, maybe three, we will have a very good squad!!

You honestly think we shouldn't sell Grella if the chance arises?

I think when he plays he is one of our better midfielders, OK yes injury prone, but so is Dunny, if we could get an adequate replacement, maybe, but we need continuity, he is familiar to the way we play, a new guy would have to learn the system.

We havew hit tenth this year and we dont need to tinker with the squad too much!!

Sort of agree but I would probably add Judge and Doran to the list, I can't see them breaking through, unless we need them for the new quotas.

Every penny is needed for Sam's double signing ;) this summer.

Yes I would agree with that, players such as those have not played this season and I do agree, they dont look as though they would break through and as you say, every penny counts!

Dunn is capable of changing a game, Grella isn't. He's a decent holding midfielder, but for the money invested in him he's given us a terrible return and it doesn't look like changing. It's hardly 'tinkering' if we sell a player who barely features.

It'll be the usual line from JW I think: "we don't have to sell if we don't want to". I just wonder if Sam would be tempted to take £15m for him, put some onus on Phil Jones, Givet and Nelsen to command the centre-back positions, and give himself a very healthy transfer budget. Personally I'd still say no but I guess it'd be something for him to consider.

It all depends how much Sam is given in the transfer market. If it's less than £10m then he might give the above some serious consideration, if it ever happened. Otherwise I think he'd stick with the given budget. I guess there's also the possibility that the board revoked any initial transfer budget if Samba was sold and just gave that to him.

Nailed it there. Given the board's previous form Sam would be unlikely to see more than half of any money we'd get for our players.

We all know that it's going to pay off debts and stabilise the club but football is a risky business. Being too prudent will only take you one way - eventually.

Galatasaray interested in Grella.

They like their injury-prone Aussies.

Grella to Gala?

Sounds like a bit of lazy journalism to me. I'd love it to be true, given how often we get to see him play, but with Kewell and Neill already there, anyone would think Gala are collecting Aussies! They'll be linked with Brett soon.

I happen to be in Jersey right now on honeymoon. Anyone know the address of the Trust so I can tell them to spend more cash? :D. Sad to see no real rumours or anything to get excited about.

Samba may well do well, for Rovers in the system Rovers play. A defender is only one player in the defence - a striker is often one of two players (maybe 3 but one in the Rovers current system)

Ok Samba has played up front and has coaused problems as a forward and a defendr for the othe teams.

It may be worth considering that Samba has not only just started playing football - so for Rovers / supporters to expect a big fee if sold maybe a pipe dream. After all why did not other scouts of other clubs see Samba's potential.

Defenders are more easily replaceable than a decent striker - especailly one who scores 15 -20 goals per season. It would make an extremely hard temptation to resist.
