[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Did we not have money in January to buy a striker? I thought that we tried to sign Benjani or Dindane on the last day of the window so obviously there must be a bit of money around. Also, did the board not say they would stump up money for Adam Johnson? Sorry if that question gets repeated but if it is true then there is obviously money that could potentially be available but just isn't because of the Trust. I know we have debts and a high wage bill but it just gets so frustrating with the same story every year. We sell players, reduce the wage bill, get more money in than expected through league position.... but nope, no more money available to bring anyone in. We probably only need 2 players (a goalscorer and maybe a centre mid depending on whether anyone leaves) but still it would be nice to know we have money to spend for a change. As we all know, goalscorers don't come cheap so every little helps.

Here we go with the local journo on just the 28th of April.....saying we still have the benni money to spend, aswell as the potential £3m on offer for extra places in the league

Here is the Journo that clearly knows his own story

I take it that you stopped reading halfway down?

If JW gives Sam 3.5 million then who's to say thats not good enough. With JW as chairman he seems to have done pretty well with money and keeping us in the league! Really how likely is it that (presume rovers made the estimated 6 milion profit) the board, after a decent season, thow all the money to SA and say go buy a star player. Forget about the future, who needs retained profits.

The club has also had some interesting strategies in the past with regards to buying players and making money available known. I think we, as a club, learnt from our mistakes of being ripped off back in the Jack Walker era and have used this experience well in bringing good players in for small amounts of money (bellamy, Benni, RSC, Warnock Bentley Nzonzi etc).

So theres no point in moaning about a 3 line article in the Sun, if at the start of the season money still hasn't been made available then feel free to criticise whoever, but theres no point moaning about pure speculation.

Unlike the Peter White era, the LET are not as close to the club as they once were, we get more proper news on here off Nicko than the Telegraph, why, I dont know, but thats why Nicko works for a National rather than a local newspaper, they have a bit more to their game!

I must agree with Hughsey here, supported by his link on the 28th April where Andy Cryer contradicts his statement of last week !!!

There wont be a massive amount available but I would guess around the £5,000,000 mark.

Then there will be the savings on both Steven Reid and Zurabs wages and possibly a keeper as well which should boost the coffers!!

To conclude, Bennis wages alone will have gone a long way to paying Salgado's so that doesnt ring true and if we add Gallaghers wages and transfer fee to that, Salgado is taken care of!!

Those figures make sense Kelbo and I really hope that Mr Cryer (and me!)are wrong. I was merely stating what the journo had said in the podcast.

I will save this for Hughesy if we splash the cash in the coming weeks .......http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MSHaCzb3yYk

If you can provide a link then I'll bow your superior knowledge to that of a professional journalist who puts bread on his table by knowing what is going on at Rovers. If you cant I'll consider your latest bluster as more wind and p*** from yourself and that being the case suggest that you stick to club shop and away kit gossip.

It was four liner for a ten bob journalist in The Sun. Nothing to get worked up about.

If the 3.5m doesn't include what we also have to spend on wages - then it may be accurate. Assuming we sign two players who are on around 25k each. Thats about another 2.5m for the year, which would equal a total budget of around 6 million.

That seems about right to me.

I wouldn't read too much into all of these budget 'figures.'

It always changes, there is always debate and haggling within the club.

You are actively chasing a couple of strikers...and they both cost.

So take it easy just now.

The market is going to be lively because a lot of bosses want their business done fast.

A lot of smoke is being put out, a lot of guesswork.

Some players, in particular, will become available very soon and it will all kick off.

Don't panic, your club has money to spend and that will be shown shortly.

Hopefully we can do the bulk of our business before the WC begins.

So had we finished 13th we wouldnt have had a kitty? :)

I think its more like 3 million for one striker. But then again whats the point of being optimistic as we have been proven wrong in the past when we started sniffing for the extra "money" around the club.

im happy with that, as i think Boselli would be a better option than Lewandowski. :tu:

I wouldn't be too happy as there are at least five clubs ahead of you in that particular queue.

More 'gettable' targets are on at the moment.

I hope not.

Things may be clearer during the day.

There are other clubs in for the ones you want most...and it's pretty lively out there right now.

I mentioned what Andy Cryer had said in a podcast, you leapt and shot me down as if I had presented the info as my own and that you, with your usual posturing, are the font of all knowledge Rovers related.

I am more than happy to go along with Nicko's info as he has a track record of being right in these matters. You, on the other hand, dont (unless you count the latest car air freshener being sold in the Rovers shop)
