Hughesy Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 YOU told us (as per the podcast) that we only had £3m & that the benni money was gone. I simply told you not to believe the local journo which you jumped up & down about like a puppet & said we should listen to him as he's the local journo etc..and therefore more reliable that what I said. However only 2 weeks ago he was writing an article saying how we still had the benni money & then up to £3m more based on potential finish (which we achieved). Shows how reliable the local journo is if now he says we only have £3m & the Benni money has gone. Make your mind up or what!! Meanwhile here is JW confirming what I said....not your local journo Now who do we believe?! Now better still he was talking to the Lancs Telewag about it...when we were in 13th... John Williams, speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph said - "It always depends on how we finish compared to what we budgeted for' "If we can hold our league position then we should have the Benni McCarthy money to reinvest in the squad and hopefully that should allow us to make the signings we want to make. "We`ve said all along that we will be sustainable without selling anyone as long as we can hold our league position, because then we`ve got the new television payments coming in for the 2010/11 season. "Every position in the league is worth around £750,000, which is massive for us. "But drop three places and that`s £2m off your budget and the Benni McCarthy money is gone."

Amo Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 a midfield with Dunn NZonzi and Grella looks the strongest we have at the moment. For one match - then what? Grella should be out of here pronto. The club literally can't afford to subsidize crocks. £3m for a new striker is an embarrassing indictment of the club. We've sold McCarthy, Gallagher, loosened wages, finished higher than budgeted, and that's our lot? If this is a true, then I despair about our PL standing.
RoyRover Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 We sell Roque Santa Cruz. We sell Stephen Warnock. We sell Benni McCarthy. We finish in the top 10. We receive a truck load of money in new television rights. And Sam only has £3 million to spend on a 'top' striker that will score us goals?
bluebruce Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Read the post again, not comparing as players, comparing injury records over the past two seasons, two totally different type of players and Dunn is a matchwinner, a midfield with Dunn NZonzi and Grella looks the strongest we have at the moment. No need to re-read mate, I knew what your post was doing. And my points were that Dunn's injury record isn't quite as bad, and he is a much more valuable player to the squad. So to infer we should keep Grella because Dunn is also injury-prone doesn't really compute in my books. We certainly can't carry both, even though I agree Grella is first choice in that anchoring role when fit. It's just academic that he is because he hardly ever plays.

Has it not crossed your mind that the Sun and Telewag may be clutching at straws with nothing to write about??? Let's wait to see what is quoted on the official club website until you start ranting about where has all the money gone. The board have got to balance the books first and foremost so we don't end up in a position as Pompey and Hull have. I'm sure the club are working on the finances available right now, as they will have been for some time, forecasting ST sales and other income along with outgoings. Lets pay the bills and see what's left. We must remain self sufficient and continue the steady progress that we have made under Sam.
67splitscreen Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Nicko, with the exception of Dindane, have we been linked to them previously? are they UK based?
bob fleming Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Let's wait to see what is quoted on the official club website until you start ranting about where has all the money gone. Then again let's just spend all summer speculating about what we might have to spend anyway. If the club actually reveal the amount we have avalable then they're just shooting themselves in the foot. It's a fine line of course in upsetting the fans but if the club just came out and said they had £500k for new players then they wouldn't be showing their hand. "We'll give you £450K for Messi" "But I'm sure I read you had £500K Mr Williams, it was in the Lancshire Telegraph, we have it delivered here in Barcelona, and The Mirror, which we just read on BRFCS.com. You were quoted. We'll take that and Keith Andrews for him in that case." "Damn. Me and my big mouth. The deal is off."
roversmum Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Loving all the surmising of our finances. Stop guessing how much we have. Only JW knows this and not one of you on this MB know how to run a Premier League Football Club or know the ins and outs of agreed payback deals, forecasting and so on. This is plainly wrong, vintageadidas. Of course everyone knows how to run a football club, they have been doing it on FM for years ... Three strikers being pursued. £3m to spend? Where's the Benni money? We sell Roque Santa Cruz. We sell Stephen Warnock. We sell Benni McCarthy. We finish in the top 10. We receive a truck load of money in new television rights. And Sam only has £3 million to spend on a 'top' striker that will score us goals? Has it not crossed your mind that the Sun and Telewag may be clutching at straws with nothing to write about??? Even then, though, if I were JW no way would I truly indicate what Rovers had to spend. It has to be said every window. WHY would Rovers broadcast how much money there is to spend? That's just going to affect prices to their detriment and is just plain daft. Still, just carry on getting your knickers in a twist, don't mind the obvious. (I'd put up the "I'm with stupid" smiley but as I'm a lady I wont )
Majiball Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 If only it was like FM, Roversmum, Keith would be off to sunderland for 4-5 Million like a shot!!!! At the end of the day Rovers will as always spend what we can afford. There will be no backing from the trust, the adam johnson deal was prior to them annoucing we're available for the same value as Ronaldo's left testicle. Savings will be made on the wage budget and whats left over will be given to Sam to strenghten as he sees fit hopefully. Sam has said he wants 1-2 players, which is very un-Sam like as he normally buys 5+ every season. At the end of the day 2 players to go into our first team will cost more than most are estimating on here, I'm going to claim the glass is half full and we'll spend more than 5 million on fees this summer. Which would be a lot considering even under Hughes that was about our total budget every season.
bennyboyt11 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Without delving into all this talk on our budget, anyone else strangely optimistic about this transfer window? For once it doesn't seem inevitable that our best players are leaving, or even want to leave and we appear to have a healthy list of of potential strikers being purchased.

Billy Castell Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I do too Benny Boy. Makes a change not to see Kalinic, Samba and everyone else actually moving elsewhere. We may have the odd bit about Jones and Samba, but nothing concrete. No links to Benjiani yet either.

For once it doesn't seem inevitable that our best players are leaving, or even want to leave and we appear to have a healthy list of of potential strikers being purchased. I don't think we can be anything but optimistic. The last transfer window there was NO money available yet we managed to sign players even though Sam said there was no dealing to be done. Yet people go crazy when the read in The Sun that we have £3m to spend....
Billy Castell Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 We also have a few youth players wo've made their debuts this season, which is great. Maybe we have finally got the academy working properly.
Steve Moss Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 Without delving into all this talk on our budget, anyone else strangely optimistic about this transfer window? For once it doesn't seem inevitable that our best players are leaving, or even want to leave and we appear to have a healthy list of of potential strikers being purchased. I am incredibly optimistic about this transfer window, but more so about the squad. If we hold them together, and if they continue to perform as they have this last half of season, we will be a very steady club. With the added bonus of having our books in order (eat your hearts out, Newcastle and WHam). Under Sam, the squad has really come together, especially since Benni left. Which is an argument to keep Andrews, Diouf, Grella, Chimbonda and MGP. I don't believe we should keep them all, but the cautious part of me thinks why upset the chemistry in the locker room if its working?
Amo Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Nicko - Any chance of us taking another look at Shikabala? Looks a nippy player with a decent left-foot. Could be Pedersen's replacement.
andyroversmad Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I would be happy with Raul Tamudo on a free transfer.
den Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Well said unluckymorton. Even then, though, if I were JW no way would I truly indicate what Rovers had to spend. Mum, since you quoted me, - I should have put a smilie after my post. I haven't got a clue how much money Rovers have to spend and take absolutely no notice whatsoever of the daft guesswork going on, on here, in the Telewag or by Nicko. In fact, I doubt even Allardyce or Rovers know exactly.
AJW Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Maybe "leaking" we only have £3m to spend is our boards way of not being shafted in the transfer market ... i mean can you imagine if JW came out and said we've £10m to spend on a striker ....suddenly whoever we are interested the price would go up a couple of £m , ideally you say nowt , but people on internet forums have a desire to find out
chaddyrovers Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I wouldn't read too much into all of these budget 'figures.' It always changes, there is always debate and haggling within the club. You are actively chasing a couple of strikers...and they both cost. So take it easy just now. The market is going to be lively because a lot of bosses want their business done fast. A lot of smoke is being put out, a lot of guesswork. Some players, in particular, will become available very soon and it will all kick off. Don't panic, your club has money to spend and that will be shown shortly. I hope so. maybe a top striker with maybe a younger up coming striker from africa or eastern europe. Guess we will have to wait and see.
DeadlyDirk Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 I think we should sell our rubbish players and replace them with better ones.
rovers1995 Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Don't know whether this has been mentioned yet: http://thedailyrover.com/?p=3246
The Rover of Finland Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Don't know whether this has been mentioned yet: http://thedailyrover.com/?p=3246 Does anyone what kind of prospect he is?
roversmum Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Hm so that's what the Spain thing was about. Sorry Den, Mwah, just get frustrated with all the nonsense about we should go for this one or that one and why have we only got so much to spend, on and on, when I just want to know about genuine targets and not have to wade through reams of rubbish.
