[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Have to say that signing an 32+ year old legend striker who may or may not adapt to this country and be good for a season or so doesn't excite me nearly as much as signing a 21 year old promising striker who could stay at Rovers for a while, score lots of goals and leave us with a big fee.

I know that the 21 year old option is less likely to work out but who's to say that these ageing names that are being touted around will adapt to the Premier League quickly, not to mention they're in decline. If this player is under 30 I'll start to get genuinely excited.

I have to agree with that. Raul looks well past it and would cost big wages as well. Better off signing someone younger and with a potential resale.

I hope we aren't looking at him.

I wouldn't say we are short on young talent at all. We need experience not kids now.

One thing is for certain.

If it is Raul then he needs a supply line and at the moment Rovers havent got one.

He isnt a traditional workhorse centre forward so may Roy drenthe or Gago are coming on loan as well !!!

from nicko's first statement about it being a stunner and "meltdown" as a rovers fan you automatically fear the worse , but he also said "buzzing around for days" - what exactly has been "buzzing" around for days that would cause "meltdown" - Liverpool going for Capello ?

The biggie is potentially fabulous news...if nothing else it shows ambition...

Robbie Keane maybe. Would be a excellent signing. Shows amibtion of Big Sam . We finish ten without a striker more than 10 goals or Dunn did. Big Sam knows this, so he will be looking at that. We all know that Big Sam wanted a proven goalscorer last season but couldnt sign 1 within our budget. Just imagine where we would be if we sign Bent or Crouch. 2 strikers with proven recorders. But we didnt. So let's move on from that. Kalinic has potential to be a very good striker just need a striker partner to play with. Keane can play in the hole behind Kalinic or on the left of a three forward line.

I have doubts about that link.

At the bottom of the page it says.

"●PRESTON hope to sign Wycombe midfielder Matt Phillips this week. The 19-year-old, who has been with his local club at Adams Park for 11 years, will cost £400,000." now there is no way that is going to happen at the moment.
