The past his prime term gets banded about too much. Of course he's not at his prime, his prime was a key player for Real Madrid which is one of the biggest and best clubs on earth, a player of that level even getting on a bit if probably better than most run of the mill players 'in their prime'. To think some people wanted our two lumps of ###### in Reo-Coker and Sidwell, the former a moody limited ###### and the latter just useless in every sense, and would then turn noses up at Guti just cause he's 33! He's got at least two good seasons in him barring injury.

OMG i have had more heart attacks than doctor who reading the last 5 pages!!!!!

I think guti will be good and can only help to improve n'zonzi

Not to get to far ahead of ourselves but Reids wages, and Burger boys fee + wages would put us in the ballpark.

Now who do we shift on for Raul, leave Keith out of this. ;)

The article says:

'Guti, 33, is leaving the Bernabeu after his farewell match in Malaga tonight when the Madrid giants hope to pull off a miracle and pip Barcelona to the Serie A title.'

That really would be a miracle, given that neither team plays in Serie A!!!

Guti huh? Interesting...I'll reserve judgement. Could be exactly what we need, could be a wasted £3 million a year, we will see. 60k p/w, if accurate, is a lot for us...but given some of the players leaving, we can likely afford it. Just hope we still have enough left in the kitty for some other, longer-term investments.

How many people wrote Salgado off when we first signed him?

And how many people changed their mind after they saw him play?

On that logic we better get rid of Salgado too then!

Thank god you weren't our manager when Tugay was here!

I wonder who we will have to sell this time to pay for his big wages. Samba?

Its been well publicised that wages dominate our budget far too much and this needs to change. Signing a 33 year old (34 in October) on big wages goes completely against that viewpoint.

Agree! The games I've seen him play in this season, he has looked very good. Did not look out of place, and sprayed some fantastic balls to the strikers. He looked very comfortable, and still kept up with the pace of the game. Having 2 Madrid players at Rovers, would just further enhance our reputation and help getting more good players.

Even on 60K a week, thats only benni's supposed 30-35K and reids 25-30K if he's coming on a free. Just imagine what he could do to our attacking play. Not to mention the kids coming through.

If we can get them both, well Kalinic learning of one of the best strikers in the modern game, ever, happy days.

Quite true, come to think of it, our other Real cast off hasn't done to bad, was he not injured or coming back from one when we signed him, he wasn't fit that's for sure.

I'll save the wet dream for the morning.

Raul, Guti, Sagado three down eight to go, Second strip next season. ?????????

Although I do agree that his wages will be a problem, I can only imagine that if he's on a free then maybe with Rovers finishing much higher than we budgeted for means we can afford to spend a little more on them.

I just can't see how this can turn into a bad signing. He's got more ability in his little toe than most/all our players, he's an intelligent footballer and he's a born winner. The experience alone will benefit our current players (especially youngsters) greatly.

It also makes Blackburn more attractive to players who might sign for us.

My days, people cry out we need a midfielder who can pass a ball, we get linked with Guti who has exceptional vision and passing and he gets wrote off as past it etc. Farce...

He would walk into our midfield (infact most sides midfields), we need him more than he needs us.

I am a little surprised, not at the story but at the reaction.

Guti is a current Real Madrid player- unlike Salgado, who was not playing for the team, Guti is in the first 11 and has been for a large part of the season, he is also the vice captain. I have seen him a few times and he is an excellent player who is better than any player we have. £60K a week? MGP is on £40 and Benni was on that too- surely we have saved Benni's wages since January too?! Get him on board.

Finally I think that Nicko is talking about something else, may have something to do with us selling the club, as had been infered by him on a different thread.

I swear some people on here; if they found Megan Fox in their bedroom they'd probably complain that she broke in.

I would complain  who the hell let her out of the kitchen

guti at blackburn would be top notch think about it. the young lads would learn alot, ticket sales would probably go up, he would probably have to take abit of a wage cut but what should he care he has millions in the bank anyway. so what if hes nearly thirty four with all the advances in sports science players are going on a few years longer than before look at giggs and how many of you wouldnt have him in blue and white thats right none. i think sometimes we all forget that we play in the best league in the world bar none and its a privlage to play here regardless of what team you play for apart from burnley of course, cmon rovers be ambitious lets copete with the big boys lets sign world class and not world drab.

It completely beggars belief that anyone is against signing Guti, he'd be one of the best midfielders in the country, playing for us!

Posted

Not getting carried away over a potential signing, but to not want Guti to play for us is shocking. Sign him up Sam!

Yes Sam please do as I am sure he's an oldie, but a Guti.
