MeanGreenMachine Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Guti would be an exceptional signing. Benni and RSC in their prime more exciting? RSC was signed off the back of a 3 goal season and Benni after he had gone AWOL from Porto, get a grip. Would be truly amazing to see one of my fave ever players to don the blue and white halves.
Backroom Tom Posted May 15, 2010 Backroom Posted May 15, 2010 Is anyone expecting the inevitable, Guti gets close to signing then Sam meets resistence from someone on the board about the wages.
nicko Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Nicko, Are we still in the hunt for dindane? Impressed me today I would say you are third in the list for him...but I have got to say the whole Dindane thing is very messy and always was...too many agents...too many porkies. And second in the list for Piquionne as it happens...
SIMON GARNERS 194 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 F*** me. Your manager is trying to sign a genuine 'name' and a talent... I think it is brilliant. And I don't even support your team. Well F*** me too nicko!. I think its great news but will be more happy if/when he wears the blue 'n' white.I fear bigger clubs than Rovers will be after him too.
MeanGreenMachine Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 --- Piquionne Guti---------Dindane ----Dunn--Emerton--- ------Fonzi--------- looks decent for a change!
Darth Paul Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Just another thought but these kind of signings can build momentum for a club... I think the Salgado signing was always part of a bigger plan...next year we could have both players acting as club ambassadors for someone else to come in... If Sam wants to merge raw, exciting, young talent, with a team of World class veterans with experience to pass on then I am all for it. It makes for a fantastic brand for the club...We may just be about to see the start of a very exciting era for Rovers, let's not ruin it with cynicism just yet...
Emge Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Nicko, when do you reckon this Guti-situation will be sorted out? Too early to tell perhaps
roversfan99 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I think its the Mail are running a story tomorrow(showed on SSN) saying we also want Raul aswell. Any truth in that? I can but hope
koi Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Part of me despises the daft wee tart who shafted him. surely it was the other way? Anyway looks like one of Jims mates could be in a spot of trouble!
Tim Southampton Rover Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 And to remind you all again what Jacks philosophy was............ THINK BIG Jack would have been mega impressed with the signing of Samba then!
RibbleValleyRover Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 He's 33. 33, 34 in October. Nicko, any idea what sort of wages would Guti command? I'm guessing they would be high considering where he is currently plying his trade? IIRC we had to sell Warnock partly to fund Salgado's wages as the wage budget was already stretched, is this correct? Pretty sure i saw an article in the LT with John Williams a while back saying that the club's budget is too dominated by wages and that this cannot continue in the long term. Surely signing a veteran player on a big wage (like we did with Salgado) only makes this situation worse? Could you see us having to sell players to fund this move?
beerwins Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Is anyone expecting the inevitable, Guti gets close to signing then Sam meets resistence from someone on the board about the wages. Where is Hughesy's grandad with his camera when you need him
nicko Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Nicko, when do you reckon this Guti-situation will be sorted out? Too early to tell perhaps Guti is clear to go after tomorrow...he may not even be fit to be in the squad... Galatasaray have already made him an offer that Rovers could not match for finance. The Sam plan is to sell the football idea to him. Guti looks up to Salgado - they have been team-mates for years - and Salgado sings the praises of playing for Blackburn and the lifestyle. Hopefully the guy fancies it and if he does we better get Hughesy's grandad to get his camera round and stake out that restaurant again...because the sensible thing would be to come over. I would imagine John Williams is having a litter of kittens at the thought, mind you. This would be expensive. But what the hell.
duffbear Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Great news thanks Nicko. Any more news on the possible take over?
bennyboyt11 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 We in for a striker still or is it Guti first and then maybe a striker?
rebelmswar Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I heard that we are sniffing around Edson Buddle from LA Galaxy. Is this old news? He is scoring for fun this season though, but to be fair it isn't very hard to do.
Craigman Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Nicko, any more news on the possible sale of the club ? and could this be why Sam is looking at Guti ?

Surely signing a veteran player on a big wage (like we did with Salgado) only makes this situation worse? Could you see us having to sell players to fund this move? Guti could clearly make bigger money elsewhere, so it will come down to selling the idea to him. I don;t know the guy, so I have no clue about whether he is a money monster or not. He must be loaded already. Lets say he gets £70,000-a-year [and that is not being unrealistic] - that would probably mean less money spent elsewhere and maybe someone sold who is not replaced. But, in truth, you have plenty of cheap and low-paid youngsters in your squad now. So you could maybe cope. And what would it do for kids to have a player like him in their midst? You can't put a value on that. Nicko, any more news on the possible sale of the club ? and could this be why Sam is looking at Guti ? There is certainly one interested party that I know of - there could be more. But nobody has shown the money yet. No surprise there. That has nothing to do with the transfer targets or plans.
BuckyRover Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I think he will bring out the best in Keith Andrews.
67splitscreen Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Someone on here posted a couple of weeks back, they had spoke with Salgado about a Guti I think it was, Salgado said it was all down to money, a week or so later a poster on another board was talking to a friend, he had been in the company of Robbo, he said there is a big signing coming soon from Spain. As nicko says, everyone at the club knows, I assume that means the money men, I think if it is at all possible that Guti will come, Sam will make it happen and well done for even trying. Who's MR XYZ, then?.
AJW Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Guti the footballer is an excellent proposition , but from a business point of view its not good , we're gonna pay , what for us is massive wages , to a player who although has played for Real Madrid and won plenty , is hardly gonna sell a million shirts , IF he can make the same impact as Tugay we're all gonna have to eat some humble pie , but i don't beleive in lightening striking twice , if he helps N'Zonzi develop as a player , he'll be worth his weight in gold , if he spends the season either injured or unable to cope with the tempo or physical approach of the PL it'll be a costly mistake

I think £70k a year is unrealistic Nicko Salgado has turned out to be a brilliant buy I love the fact that a bonofide legend sings the praises of our club
