nicko Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I think £70k a year is unrealistic Nicko Good spot...it's late and I'm puffed...

Sasha_ Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I think he will bring out the best in Keith Andrews. HaHa I lol'ed hard there. I dont post on these forums. Im mostly on Norway's brfc supporters forum. But I just had to tell you how funny this accualy is
Backroom Tom Posted May 15, 2010 Backroom Posted May 15, 2010 He may be old but the idea of Guti on the back of one rovers shirt and Salgado on the other is an amazing prospect.
MeanGreenMachine Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Guti the footballer is an excellent proposition , but from a business point of view its not good , we're gonna pay , what for us is massive wages , to a player who although has played for Real Madrid and won plenty , is hardly gonna sell a million shirts , IF he can make the same impact as Tugay we're all gonna have to eat some humble pie , but i don't beleive in lightening striking twice , if he helps N'Zonzi develop as a player , he'll be worth his weight in gold , if he spends the season either injured or unable to cope with the tempo or physical approach of the PL it'll be a costly mistake I don't buy that. A player like Guti is a match winner, that can get you a place or two in this league, thus paying for himself anyway. Short term contract aswell, if he doesnt do the bis, no doubt some adu dabi side will want him.
Torgeir Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 He's 33. Sorry, my mistake. 34 in October, guess I time-warped there
braddock Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 I don't buy that. A player like Guti is a match winner, that can get you a place or two in this league, thus paying for himself anyway. Short term contract aswell, if he doesnt do the bis, no doubt some adu dabi side will want him. we are gonna have to work really hard to convince him to join since we can't match the money offered by others so i doubt very much we'll be able to say 'hey, we'll have you for 6 months and if you don't cut it naff off'
Guest roverspogges Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 If Guti decides to go to turkey for the money then we are only missing out on a money motivated 33 year old looking for a final pay day. If he chooses to come to us then it shows he still wants to play football for the right reasons and not just the money. Either way I will be happy.

47er Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Not to get to far ahead of ourselves but Reids wages, and Burger boys fee + wages would put us in the ballpark. Now who do we shift on for Raul, leave Keith out of this. When you look at our squad we have many players on the books who rarely, if ever, play first team football. Individually they maybe don't earn much by PL standards but collectively they do. Up to Sam to make the hard decisions to get a rare jewel like Guti in. Would kill 2 birds with 1 stone for me. I reckon it's along the lines of us trying to sign Raul or Guti. Michael Salgado came to an unfashionable club, where he isn't earning as much as I imagine he did at Real and could have if he signed for a team in the Middle East. I wouldn't be surprised if Sam has been on to him about trying to sell the club to a few of his friends in Spain. I'm sure Raul would believe that he still has what it takes to play at the top level. That's my thoughts on the matter anyway. I'll just have to have a look at the paper tomorrow. Good spot!
OJRovers Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Where does Guti actually play? Will he be playing behind the front man? (cover for Dunny being injured?)
AJW Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I don't buy that. A player like Guti is a match winner, that can get you a place or two in this league, thus paying for himself anyway. Short term contract aswell, if he doesnt do the bis, no doubt some adu dabi side will want him. agreed IF he plays , i watch spanish football , and Guti , is technically as good as they come and i am not totally against the signing , i'm just concerned that we havent got a bottomless pit of money any more and paying big money to another 33 year old isnt in the best interests of the club - he isnt gonna score the goals to keep us up and he isnt gonna put bums on seats
braddock Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 what part of having two ex real madrid players doesn't put bums on seats? anyone who knows a bit about football knows guti. any tool knows real madrid
AJW Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 how many extra season tickets do you think we'll sell then?
john.leigh Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I despair at some of the people on here! What part of signing Guti would NOT be a good deal for Rovers? The only pondering would be over the financial viability of this move. One would assume there's a bit of communication going on between Sam and the money men You don't go shopping for a Ferrari when the bank have only given you funding for a Focus This potential deal MUST surely have the provisional support of our board and we all know how fiscally prudent they are... If Sam has even been given the green light to enter into negotiations then it shows we are shopping in the right showroom. I just hope this goes ahead, we need a return to some sexy football. Are all the naysayers on here the same people who hate Sam for his 'hoofball'? - signing Guti would give them one less thing to whinge about and some posters are unhappy unless they have something to be unhappy about!
Ste B Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Guti could clearly make bigger money elsewhere, so it will come down to selling the idea to him. I don;t know the guy, so I have no clue about whether he is a money monster or not. He must be loaded already. Lets say he gets £70,000-a-year [and that is not being unrealistic] - He will be paid less than you then ??? Seriously though, great signing if that happens. Could be the next Tugay..
Florida Rover Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 If Sam is able to convince him to come and play for us,then I really don't see how it is a negative.Only big positives. Why couldn't he become our Tugay MkII(Tugay came to us at age 31).Wages> Well as others have noted, lose MGP Reidy Kish and even Benni's and that should not be a problem. If we were able to get Raul as well WOW would be the response from any clearheaded Blackburn supporter.Together they would probably blow our budget for spending but would that satisfy?OUT MGP,Reid,Kizinishvilli,Di Franco loan terminated,Basturk not renewed,Chimbonda if possible IN Guti,Raul I would take that everytime. Exciting to dream about really.
DeadlyDirk Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Well I'm certainly excited and think it's a big deal. Guti still has incredible talent and has shown that for Madrid THIS season, if people can't think he can't do a job for us then they must be mad. He'll have to adapt to the Premiership and that's always a risk but you could say the same for any foreign player. With Pedersen looking increasingly unlikely to sign a new deal Guti would be a fantastic replacement considering he's better than him, at least in my opinion. He would surely command 50k+ a week to even consider joining us which is always a stumbling block but Pedersen's wages, or lack of would help offset that. If Salgado ends up earning 20-30k more than Pedersen would have for the next few years then it's pretty similiar to us signing someone on the same wages for 2-3m which would surely be the going rate at least for a decent midfielder who isn't out of contract. The fact that Guti is available on a free and the lack of quality in our midfield really suggests to me that Sam will fight all the way for this one and with Salgado in his corner I think there's definitely more than a chance of it happening. We've been crying out for quality in midfield for a number of years now, someone who can get hold of the ball, pass it and help control the game, Guti can be that man for us, if only for a few years. Football moves too quickly these days to be planning much further ahead than that anyway. Other than the obvious, 'He could flop and waste 50-70k a week' this is full of positives for me. Who cares how old he is if he can still play, Tugay carried on for us until he was 62 so who knows we might even get 3, 4 or 5 years out of Guti.
andyroversmad Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Guti would be a quality signing but who is going to put the in the net ? Nicko are Rovers serious we want to sign Raul aswell ?
Alan75 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 He will be paid less than you then ??? Seriously though, great signing if that happens. Could be the next Tugay.. There will only be one Tugay.
DeadlyDirk Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 The fact that all talk from the club and manager recently has been about signing a striker while behind the scenes we've been chasing a top midfielder like Guti also reminds us that what the manager releases to the public eye doesn't always tell the full story of what's actually going on behind the scenes. Just shows us that we are forever playing guessing games regarding 'target's' and 'transfer budgets'.
ROVERS Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Guti and Raul playing for us! thats what i call exciting! flawless on the awarness creating and advertising side! flawless in youth development side! maybe abit to much to handle on the budget side. But still...... get them IN!!! http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2559/rumours/2010/05/16/1926861/blackburn-rovers-set-to-make-astonishing-move-for-real http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2565/exclusives/2010/05/13/1922036/andrey-arshavin-and-gael-clichy-head-queue-of-eight-arsenal Thomas Rosicky ? anyone?
Stuart Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 I would give it 24 hours before he quits... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1278706/FA-chief-Lord-Triesman-Spain-bid-bribe-World-Cup-referees.html If ever there was an example of 'he'll hath no fury'. Shame on the Daily Mail for being involved in such a sting. I think he will bring out the best in Keith Andrews. Fixed it for you.
ewoodpo Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Someone on here posted a couple of weeks back, they had spoke with Salgado about a Guti I think it was, Salgado said it was all down to money, a week or so later a poster on another board was talking to a friend, he had been in the company of Robbo, he said there is a big signing coming soon from Spain. As nicko says, everyone at the club knows, I assume that means the money men, I think if it is at all possible that Guti will come, Sam will make it happen and well done for even trying. Who's MR XYZ, then?. I posted that, I asked Salgado the question when I was getting an autograh of him. He did say to me it would be down to wages ,boy I was shot down by somebody on here that day. Also Dindane's brother in law is being watched by us according to the News Of The World.
Bobby G Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 If we get one in it would be great but getting two legends in than then thats a huge coup.
