[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Is there a grain of truth in this Triesman thing Nicko?

Even if Spain were up to no good, they wont be now, and this idiot has caused us massive damage in our quest for 2018.

What a cocknose. :angry2:

if guti wants big wages, then juggle the numbers, slash some of the transferbudget. Even with high wages, its a bargain, as he is quality and there is no transferfee involved.

his vision and passing is second to none.

Signing Guti would transform the way we play when on the attack. How we convert defence into attack (or rather don't) is the big bone of contention about our playing style now as we are lacking sufficient iron in midfield to allow Sam to pick players with the class and style to make us more fluid.

It will be a short term solution but bringing Guti in aged 33 will give us both iron and class. A player like him in the middle of the park will give oppositions real cause for concern and change the balance of how they play against us giving Rovers' other players a fraction more space and time. Above all, he would be an inspirational presence for the likes of Nzonzi, Hoilett and Olsson, and should rub off positively on Dunn.

I suggest those doubting this signing ought to look back at this season just ended and think about the number of games and results that would have been radically different had squad number 17 been Guti rather than Andrews. Would a Cup Final and pressing Liverpool for 7th have been unreasonable propositions?- I don't think so.

On the money front, paying him £20K a week more than we would normally pay a midfielder is the equivalent of a £2m transfer fee paid over two seasons. Signing Guti might not do much for Blackburn cyncs but I bet it would make a difference to football officianados in the club's hinterland (from Scotland downwards) thinking about watching Premier League football for low prices

Let's see if Sam lands Guti then start dreaming about Raul.

Guti's definitely a great player, but he has a bit of a reputation for being quite stroppy and a party boy. So I'm not entirely sure if he'd be the best influence on our current batch of very promising youngsters.

Having said that, if he does sign then I'm definitely getting his name on my shirt next season.

I have to say that those people who have been criticising Sam for his boring style of play which would never be successfull, that our young talent would never progress into first teamers and that Sam wouldnt bother bolstering our midfield this summer HAVE GONE VERY QUIET OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS

For the love of god, shut up!

Its probably not a daft idea for as many people to do that as possible, it would show the board a correlation between signing someone good and getting an increase in revenue. Might encourage them to do it a bit more...

This could be a very good transfer. Guti is a class act and would add the quality that our midfield has been missing for so long. He would also raise the profile of the club and bring more punters to our games. He really could make a big difference to our team. But signing Guti would be pointless if we continue just to lump the ball forward in the hope that something happens. We would want to utilise his fantastic passing and play making ability. As other people have pointed out, the wages could be a stumbling block. There have also always been questions about Guti's attitude and that he was a disruptive influence in the dressing room. I would hate to think of him coming to Rovers and looking down at the club and people in it, because it isn't the same standard as Real Madrid. I suppose he would be aware of it before he would sign anyway, but it is something to consider. I know Salgado has fitted in brilliantly and seems to love the place, but it could be different with Guti. Overall I think it could be a really good bit of business. It would also help in the signing of other players if they were to see that we had a player of his calibre. The affect that he could have on the younger players would also be a real bonus as we look to develop our own talent for the future. He would be a great player for them to learn off.

Harry Balls, finding humble pie a bit difficult to take are we....

No. I've had my share and it tasted better than I thought.

It's just bloody annoying that certain posters keep beating the dead donkey when most people in the anti-Sam camp have held their hands up and admitted that they were perhaps a bit rash in their judgement of our manager.

Nobody likes an 'I told you so', especially when they've 'told us so' on countless occasions already.

Fair enough!

Chin up fella, our club is in very good hands at the moment.

Personally not a fan of Guti. He is well past his best (and he wasn't ever that good). 70k a week is ridiculous in the present climate. If he comes here it is for the money. I don't by the personal challenge angle one bit.

How anyone thinks we can justify paying over 100k to two ageing ex Madrid players is beyond me.

Fair enough, but you are one of only a few who have admitted being slightly rash in your judgement of Sam. There were so many people who came on here after a defeat and would ruin the man given any opportunity but whenever the club did remotely well, like now for instance, they wouldnt say a word.

I heard that we are sniffing around Edson Buddle from LA Galaxy.

Is this old news? He is scoring for fun this season though, but to be fair it isn't very hard to do.

Always liked him - reminds me of Roberts (strong and quick) with a slightly better eye for the goal. Would only see him as a replacement for Jason, if he were to leave, though.

I have to say that if Sam's strategy is to get "cheap" quality players towards the end of their careers and merge them with young but raw talent then I'm all for that. I'd rather pay good money for proven quality than slightly less for some of the crap that's out there.

And as for Salgado? Could the youngsters have a better example of what being a professional is all about. Simply a class act.

Aint Nigeria the one where players get recycled? They hit 35 and get given a passport saying 18 on it under a new name?

And did anyone read the scottish post hearing the music from braveheart in the background?

Anywho....

Defenders

I think we look pretty solid, the emergence of Olsson and Jones makes life a little easier. We have plenty of cover across the back four so im hapopy.

Centre Midfield

Jamie O'Hara - Top player, wicked left foot and a very good 'all-rounder'.

Joe Ledley - Young, very talented, free

Kevin Prince Boateng - Maudy little ###### but good football

Radslaw Majewski - Young Polish attacking midfielder at Forest, no doubt he will be in the premiership, very good player with a wicked shot on him.

Wingers

Kris Commons - Very consistant, good left foot, relitively cheap and would be a reliable player to have for the left.

Jermaine Pennent - ###### but good footballer and is a 'proper winger' as id call him. Also not happy in spain last time i heard?

Strikers

Kris Boyd - Free, good goal scoring record, worth a gamble.

Franco Di Santo - If he was cheap enough might be worth a punt.

Ivan Klasnic - Surely gotta be looked at. Cheap, has took to the premiership like a duck to water and scores goals. Think he would shine next to Kalanic aswell.

Ive just done BFS whole scouting job for the summer, just go sign them up now sam

I would like to see Robert Lewandowski at Rovers. Young talented player, great goalscoring record too.

We are interested in Mainz striker Aristide Bance.

Seems like he has a half decent record, the Bundesliga is a good place to get players from too as it's probably the most comparable league to ours.

Looks like a Di Santo replacement to me, rather than this goalscorer Sam wants.

Is it just me or are quiet a few of our targets more Roberts replacements than anything else.. Buddle, Piquione, Banse... as examples, and well we know given the Benni Saga he does not like keeping disillusioned players.

Too true on Salgado, and he is already using it to effect bringing in Kids like Hugo and I personally dont doubt that he has had an influence on our youth success in the last year.

The Times today publishes the full earnings from last season. Rovers earned £41.3M which is made up of domestic and foreign Tv rights. 13 live games and merit money from 10th.If you factor in the gate money, sponsorship deals, match day income and shirt sales then the club is in a relatively good position. Enough to persuade Real stars to come here? Why not.Salgado is proving a very good ambassador for the club.

In another article rovers are one of many Prem clubs to have offshore acounts; a quite legal means of tax avoidance. However the tone of the article prompted by Christian Aid is a critical one in that clubs are not contributing to the public purse.

Have there been any mention anywhere that Raul is leaving the Bernabeu as well? I think he's very close to the all time scoring record for Real Madrid, and probably won't leave unless he's forced out. Besides, who would force a legend like him out of there when he's so loved by the fans?

I'm curious how Sam envisions playing Guti. Even if he plays in the pocket the need for a better target man than Kalinic is there. Guti's through passing is excellent so a pacy striker who could preferably hold the ball up as well is what's needed, as well as finish - but they don't come around too cheaply.

He isnt as wanted as you think. The fans want him to leave the club as they feel his influence has held them back for a long time now. He has been pushed aside this season without much resistance but his image standing next to Pellegrini shouting instructions during every match is not something the Madrid press or fans want to see.

He will leave in the summer, that much is for certain.
