vyeo Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Always knew Guti was class, but didnt know that he was this good. His eye for a pass is absolutely sublime. Really not sure what our odds are, but it would be quite a coup if we could convince him to come. Just waiting for the inevitable Spurs link, as he actually does seem like the kind of signing that would interest Spurs. - Another link to Guti's killer assist this season.

The Rover of Finland Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Guti has always had world class rivals for game time at Madrid. Still he has been big part of their team more than a decade. He was Spain regular for a decade. But still he has never been the brightest star. If he is ambitious he will take a chance to play in England, not in Turkey or Qatar. That don´t mean it´s Rovers he choose. There could be many clubs intersted in him if he wants to come to PL. If he plays for Rovers next season it makes us much better team.
andyroversmad Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 If we signed Guti we would have to sign the right type of striker because leaving Kalinic up top alone is not going to get us goals.
The Rover of Finland Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 If we signed Guti we would have to sign the right type of striker because leaving Kalinic up top alone is not going to get us goals. It didn´t matter who there was as alone striker last season. Strikers didn´t score much. Sam has to buy the striker who can score but it´s not related on Guti. He could be the one creating more chances. Nicko, how related is all this Guti talk on Pedersen´s situation? Is it possible they both play for Rovers? Somehow I feel this is Sam´s way to put some pressure on Gamst.
braddock Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 does anyone honestly care about the gamst situation? if he stays he stays, if he goes he goes.
ada2020 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 does anyone honestly care about the gamst situation? if he stays he stays, if he goes he goes. Cant say I've lost any sleep over it.......anybody heard anything about him?
Amo Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Thinking about it: If Gamst leaves, along with a few fringe players, we should be able to cover most of Guti's wages with that?
67splitscreen Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Benni.... Reid, surely enough there. Or did we replace Benni while I was away.
rebelmswar Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Benni.... Reid, surely enough there. Or did we replace Benni while I was away. I am sure you would notice a direct replacement for Benni. We should keep Mr. Gamst as Guti will certainly need some long throws at his head next season if he is to perform at all. Does everyone have full enough faith in Olsen to replace Gamst outright? And if we removed Gamst from the selection equation that would leave the Andrews variable with a better ratio of selection possibility. Don’t like those odds.

Don’t like those odds. i don't know who olsen is but this young kid we've got called olsson will replace gamst. he has the pace to get back defensively (peds' defensive side being the only thing we could possibly miss) and is definitely an attacking threat. the lack of long throws will be fantastic. if gamst moves and guti comes in andrews will be in the same position in the pecking order and he has done ok this season as a squad player, so that will be fine.
FourLaneBlue Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 It is about time Rovers take away the offer to Gamst. It has been on the table long enough. I did initially want him to say but he is taking the proverbial now...he has had months. At least tell him either he signs now or not at all. We are a top half Prem team...we can't be allowing such an average player to be stringing us along. Get rid and get someone else in. Surely he can't be the only one who can wipe a ball with his shirt before launching it back into play?
67splitscreen Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 If we do sign Guti, I was just thinking, then burst out laughing, on 70min Guti is replaced by Andrews, WTF, the antis will burst a blood vessel. Torgeir Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Morten said during halftime of the Vålerenga - Ålesund game that he's approaching his contract situation with ease, he wants to relax a little after a long season. He also said Rovers were still a strong possibility as it's a great club and he has enjoyed his time at the club. We'll just have to wait and see I guess, looks like he's trying to milk the club by getting other offers in. I think he's a valuable squad member but for a top 10 club he shouldn't be a regular starter.

I don’t know what punctuation is, but that is a fantastic point. Don’t agree with you about the long throws though, as commentators seem to find it deadly – there has to be something to that. I am sure he will be fine in Turkey or wherever he may choose to go to, but I think that he is a very handy player and has done very well with the shift in position.
PAFELL Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Wonderful. So some slapper who is happy to bed her married boss despite him being well over twice her age decides to tape some private conversations. Who would pay for such salacious rubbish? Of course, only a paper that cared more for its own short-term circulation figures rather than the longer-term national interest. It would have to be a paper willing to throw aside any morals and to be stupid to not see what kind of backlash it would provoke. The backlash has already happened...the British public are hardly likely to be happy that the MoS set up this sting which reveals little other than a few off-hand remarks, yet could be damaging to the national bid. It always was a crappy paper but they have misjudged the feelings of the average English person badly. Well done to The Mail on Sunday. The best own goal we are likely to see all season! May be it has done the English bid, as well as the game in this country, a little bit of good. It highlights that the powers that be will not tolerate behaviour from its own people, therefore should accept the same standards from other countries. World cup referees will come under a little more scutiny. At the same time any decent person / company working within the media should check any information / source before considering print / broadcast. We may now get somebody decent in charge of the FA. Don't forget all bids have got a long way to go. For England it would not fall just because of todays story. As it is not enough on its own to sink the bid. There are more positives than negatives to overshadow recent events. True or not true it is not a nice story, but it has been dealt with, without delay. that shows integrety.
PAFELL Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 If we signed Guti we would have to sign the right type of striker because leaving Kalinic up top alone is not going to get us goals. Would not mind getting Sturridge (spelling) on loan from Chelsea. After all,he hardly plays at Chelsea. Probable owe us a favour for giving Di Santo a try out.
FourLaneBlue Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 True or not true it is not a nice story, but it has been dealt with, without delay. that shows integrety. No integrity at all from The Mail on Sunday. At least Trieseman fell on his sword and lost his job. What exactly has the MoS done in the "public interest" which is what they defend themselves with whenever their methods are brought into question.
47er Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 He was a labour lord. That is all the Daily Mail cared about. Jeopardising the world cup bid wont get in the way of cheap political point scoring from a paper like the Mail. Scum. He was a fool for saying it, but the Daily Mail searched long and hard to find it. Disgusting people. Raul is a bridge too far, Guti would be enough for me to claim that this summer is a success almost regardless of what else happens. On yer bike Morten. And to be fair, Nicko never mentioned Raul in his first statements. All the stuff about Salgado upping the club and talking to his mate referred to Guti. The media seem to have thrown that one in.
47er Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 When have newspapers ever cared about the National Interest? The interest of the nation maybe. At the end of the day they are reporting the wrong doings of a supposed highly respected figure in the FA and politics. I'm not trying to stick up for papers as my own extended family have had plenty of history with them in the past and I'd like nothing more than to have the World Cup on my doorstep. But if England lose the world cup over this it won't be because some reporter was simply doing his job...it'll be because the head of the FA was "doing" his receptionist In fact the press now interpret "the National Interest" as anything the " Nation" is interested in or could be thought to be interested in. Not the same thing at all and just part of the remorseless dumbing down of Britain.

Anyone got a summary of who we have looked at and status? Curious to see what sort of players Sam is targetting. So far leaving: Morten? Unknown status there Roberts: Expressed his desire for first team play Cimbonda: Noted by Sam as a potential sale Basturk: Loan deal over Reid: End of contract Zurub: Cut price sale Maceo Rigters: PNE Di Santo: End of loan Judge: Not proven to be good enough So far looked at (some maybe false leads): Left backs: Konchesky and Canella Creative Mid: Guti Left midfield: Ledley Pacey forwards: Dindane Goalscorers: Lewandowski and Boselli Target men: Piqionne, Buddle and Bance.

Bobby G Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 We say a top striker is the primary target but then we are linked with people like Piquionne and Dindance, who I dont consider "top". Yes they may be slight improvements on what we have but only slight if any. I would have thought we need two strikers at least to replace Di Santo and Benni, so hopefully one will be one of the above and the other the truly "top" striker we are hearing about. But I doubt it. We know better from experience.
