Iceman Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Nicola Zigic will surely be mentioned again. He is looking for a move away from his team, and the sort of striker Sam just loves Another player is Mamadou Niang, who is also a tall player who can score goals.

67splitscreen Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Sturridge would be a cracking loan, alas no chance. He's to close to a starting role IMO. Lewandowski, to say Dortmund were reportedly so close to signing him, even they seem to be dragging their heels, failed in their bid for the CL, same boat as us I think, no money, unless they sell.
Majiball Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Sturridge would be a cracking loan, alas no chance. He's to close to a starting role IMO. And if they sign Kaka and Aguero?
AJW Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Sidney Govou is an iteresting one , could easily play r/h side on a 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation and available on bosman , only 30 years old , he seems to have been around for ages , i wonder what our resident french correspondents think of him
neophox Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Nicko: Is there any interest from us or other Premier Clubs in 23-year old Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard? He can score goals, 20 last season for City. What do you feel about Deiberson Giovanni? He's 30 but if maybe big Sam can get the best out of him like when we played for Barcelona? He is a genuine playmaker ala Guti if we fail to get Guti.
OJRovers Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 If Pedersen isn't being offered the same money elsewhere we should lower our offer to him or just withdraw it. We can't afford to pay over the going rate for someone who, let's face it, has been poor for 95% of the last 3 seasons. I would rather bring Ledley in if possible.
Bazrakats Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 will our transfer dealings be put on hold untill the Sams future is sorted. i can see JW authorizing a transfer for someone who was bought under the suggestion of an outgoing manager.

Problem with Ledley is that he will cost us £2-3m in a tribunal - money which would be better spent on a striker.

This is taking things way too far. Sam's future is sorted. Until some time in the future, Sam is Rovers manager and will pick and choose his players accordingly. This is based off the dodgy article on a website that is, frankly, weak and often biased. It's a weak and pointless rumour that doesn't deserve any of our attention.
MeanGreenMachine Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 And if they sign Kaka and Aguero? He still wont leave, simply because the 'home grown' ruling.
Commondore Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 --------Guti----------N'zonzi---------- Govuo-------------Dunn--------------Olsson -----------------Kalinic------------------ I'd prefer this one, Dindane an athlete playing football, we need footballers. Highish wages yes but a proven french international, with talent and more pace than Dindane, perhaps Givet could do a Salgado??? Guti didn't have the legs to play at a central midfield position last year in the quite slow tempo Spanish league... IF he comes here he will have to take Dunn's position behind the striker/s.

IF he comes here he will have to take Dunn's position behind the striker/s. Not sure about that. You don't need to have "legs" to play central midifeld if you have the talent and the techinque. Tugay was hardly the fastest, nor was Campo.

Tugay was hardly the fastest, nor was Campo. ...but the last two-three years we could hardly play Tugay if we didn't set up the team to support his lack of "legs". We are already more or less carrying Dunny. Campo played just in front of the defensive line, I agree that legs isn't as important in that position but it's hardly the place Guti is supposed to be is it?

67splitscreen Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 And if they sign Kaka and Aguero? Then IF, If and IF we might get a snIFF.

Hard to see how Dunny and Guti could feature in the same starting 11. One or the other IMO, playing in the hole.
Bobby G Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Dunn can move and play in the midfield alongside Nzonzi lets say. They can interchange.
joey_big_nose Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Dunn can move and play in the midfield alongside Nzonzi lets say. They can interchange. I don't think Dunn can really play deeper. His game is all about committing players and getting into the box, he is not going to hold the formation together. Guti is more of a passer so I see him dropping off out of the two. I would agree with Majiball's formation.
AJW Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 ...but the last two-three years we could hardly play Tugay if we didn't set up the team to support his lack of "legs". good point , some of Tugay's best football for rovers was when we he played alongside Robbie Savage , but i think Sam sets up his teams differently , and with N'zonzi , Olssen and Diouf potentially playing alongside him in midfield, there is plenty of "legs"

You might rather have Ledley but it looks like the manager, if at all possible, would rather keep Pedersen. If not the offer would have probably been withdrawn a while ago and we would be actively pursuing a player like Ledley. As it stands, the player Allardyce seems to want to bring in is ....Pedersen
Bobby G Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Pedersen would be the most cost effective signing allowing better room to move for others.
Amo Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Exactly - its all about Ability, not how fast they can run! No, it's not. Players need to be athletically competitive, as well as technically. Naturally, some players lean more one way than the other, but basic fitness is a requirement. Look at Villanueva. Talented little player, but Sam hardly played him 'cos of his lack of pace and power.
Majiball Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 Hard to see how Dunny and Guti could feature in the same starting 11. One or the other IMO, playing in the hole. Surely they'd have to. Why sign a player on 60K a week to replace the one player who's scored goals for us this year? To me it doesn't make sense to move for Guti unless we can play them both at the same time. Guti really is more of a central midfielder than a hole player IMO, but he could do a job there, when Dunn is on the table. Salgado---Samba----Givet----Olsson ----------Grella---N'zonzi-------- ----------Guti-----Dunn----------- ---------Kalinic----Raul----------- No width but we play mainly down the middle anyway.

I'm sorry I nearly wet myself, Poor Salgado and Olsson won't know what's hit um. The goals would defiantly increase, unfortunately probably in the against column. or maybe it's just the way it looks on paper, rather unorthodox to say the least. Do you think there is anything in the 3 at the back we tried, dated I know but strange Sam should give it a whirl, maybe that would accommodate Dunn and Guti better.
