[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

I thought Valero looked a cracking little player when he was at West Brom, I think I posted about him after they went down.

He's got the sort of quality on the ball that we need, I'd be happy if that is true.

He's a big reasons why Real Mallorca were challenging for the Champions League right to the last day. He would be a very good signing for us.

no, he said he didn't have the physical attributes for a dogfight

there are many players who have great ability but aren't suited to those conditions

most luxury players in fact

Nonsense. Terms such as "dogfight" are an objectification. When all's said and done, it's still 11 vs. 11 playing to win. The league doesn't magically become more competitive because we're in the relegation zone. Either a player has the legs or they don't.

jones isn't ready just yet

givet perhaps. it is a close call. nelsen wins it

People keep saying this, so it's about time I asked- why isn't Jones ready just yet? What has he done wrong in the batch of appearances he made, seriously? Whilst I agree we shouldn't just rely on Jones as an established starter now, I don't see why he should be dropped until he at the very least makes a mistake!! Nelsen had an iffy season at times.

When a team is competing at the bottom instead of the top, they are outclassed in the majority of games. This can cause them to rely on "spoiling tactics" rather than creative tactics, and this is why "luxury" players have often struggled near the bottom. In a top team, their team will be good enough to do the hard work and you can afford to have a player who isn't necessarily putting himself about and breaking up play. In a team where you're constantly up against it, such a player will spend much of the game running around futilely (if you're lucky), and generally waiting for the ball which never comes.

Jones will start more games next season, barring injury, than the admiral.

If he had only played a couple of games and not looked so accomplished I'd agree, problem is IMO he has proved he can hold his own against the best, it is now the admiral that has to dislodge him, don't see it happening.

His reduced game time at the end of the season, IMO, was Sam just bringing him back down to earth, after the speculation with Le Arse.

nelsen isn't past it at all

i'm aware things change but nelsen should be playing

thing i don't understand is why stanley don't play that formation

they'd be kings of the world

there's a reason brazil play it and we don't you fool

also, do you know how much raul AND guti would cost? we don't have it

Just a little courtesy would prevail Braddock, calling someone a fool is simply childish, however just to correct you on a couple of things, whichever system a team plays, 4-5-1 or 3 -5-2 can be as attacking or defensive as you want it to be, 3 at the back and two wing backs (who are normally full backs) can be turned into a very defensive system, likewise an attacking one too, depends on having the personel to do it, therefore with Majiballs team, the personel would be capable of playing that way, indeed, if anything, Brazils style of playing is very one dimensional and very rarely change the way that they play. The outstanding feature about Barcelona is that they can mix it, have a great work ethic and extremely good players, but they are a one off!!

Arsenal are wonderful passers of the ball and have almost perfected one touch football, though yet again, they are sometimes unable to change their system or style of play!! But in the main, if you have the right players you can play any system, just takes longer to get the players playing within a given system.

Bernard Mendy has triggered a release clause in his Hull contract and is now a free agent. Pretty average player in my opinion but has bags of pace, is young and can operate as an attacking fullback or winger. Might be a useful squad player if wages are low.

Young compared to Salgado perhaps, but he won't lower our average age at 28.

I think he's a good player and if we were in need of a right back it would be a good move, but we're already full in that department. Maybe if Emerton moves on in the summer?

Pace can mask a lot of defeciencies.

Apologies in advance if my memory is sketchy here, but...

Nicko, did you say a while ago that there was a good chance two Man City youth players would be coming to us this summer? I don't think you named them, but I see your name attached to this article about John Guidetti. Before I saw your name on it, I thought to myself 'if the lad wants to stay at a Prem club and have a shot at breaking through soon, there's no better option than us'. So, is this one of the young lads we're in for? I couldn't find much about him, but I did find that he scored a hat-trick against Burnley reserves when only 17, so I like him already!

I have to say if Sam goes for Piquionne I shall lose all faith in him. He has said he wants a player who can hit the ground running and scoring goals from the off. If that is the case Piquionne is not that striker in 10 years of playing footy he has only ever managed to score in double figures twice. His statistics make Grabbi look good anyhow as have checked out from the link below he is not a regular scorer.

http://uk.soccerway.com/players/frederic-piquionne/1328/

Dindane has scored more goals and would be slightly better and would be worth looking at. Depends if he is still available, but if we can't get him I don't think Piquionne would be worth it. Would be then better to go for that Bance chappie from Germany.

sorry am not reactionary just stating that Piquionne is not a regular goal scorer according to his stats

and so if sam thought he could get something out of him you would lose allllll faith in him, just for even going for him? not even waiting to see if he did managed to get something from him? not even allowing him one dodgy signing if the worst comes to worst?

you would honestly lose all faith in him?

that's odd

Blackburn fans, I apologise for this, and if the mods want to delete it i'll fully accept that decision, but I rarely ever go off topic on your boards and do take part in your discussions etc.

I just want to ask nicko a simple question. Is James Milner going to go, we know tonight that Man City have tabled the bid, rumoured to be 24m, and I just want to know if our star player is leaving, something I am sure Blackburn will know about with RSC, Bellamy etc. Obviously I know a lot of you don't like Villa after Warnock, Friedel and the cup finals and repeated fixtures between the two teams.

Tom as far as i know we haven't got a problem with the Villa, Yeah Brad went but who can blame him we had a clown in charge in Ince and he was loking for a better deal to wrap up his retirement. Fair Play.

Stevie on the other hand well we don't miss him i don't think...Givet istwice the defender and i always thought Stevie didntdo too well against the chelsea's and man utds. Looked good at our level of teams but that was it.

RSC to Birmingham Nicko 8m apparently, i'l leave it to you whether or not its BS.

Only thing againstVilla is MON hes overrated and so boring and has no clue about a transfer market outside of England. Haha just joking.

On a similar, and yet fairly opposite view to dunnfc, I've nothing against Villa for taking Friedel and Warnock, or knocking us out of the cups. Jealous, yes, but no sense being bitter about it. Those are exactly the sorts of things your club should be trying to do and I'd expect ours to do if we could. You got Brad and Stephen at pretty cheap prices IMO, that's the only thing that rankles with me- but that's OUR fault.

ROFLMAO,

"Braddock says No", whatever could I say to that?

Thanks for such a stimulating and reasoned reply, as always!

Anyway my bowels are moving so I'm off to have a more intellectual conversation with what comes out, instead of you.

christ, you aren't reactionary are you?

But you most certainly are, and its all your here to do.

ok maybe not lose all faith in him that is maybe a bit strong. The main point I was getting at was Sam has said all along he wants a striker who scores goals regularly Piquionne by his statistics is not that man. We would be better off looking elsewhere, because for a bit more we could probably get a striker who is a regular scorer and that would be better. Nicko did Dindane turn up for his Bolton medical yesterday?. Is there any developments on that front?. Has he chosen where we wants to go?. Have we also gone in yet for this Bance chap from Germany?. He might be a better bet.

My mistake, I thought he was about 23. Still may be an option on a free though. Was Sam at Bolton while he was there?
