To buy a player of pedersen's caliber and premier league experience would cost 5 mil easily. He'd also be on decent wages. We can't have inexpericed players all over the park, that'd be suicide.

The management and the board have obviously seen fit to pay him that much becuase it is the most cost effective and the safest option.

You can say about his past couple of seasons of annomymity but what is to say a new signing would work out. It is far more likely that pedersen could recapture his old form than a new player come in and be as good as we all know pedersen can be.

It's also not only a case of just finding a suitable replacement that we can afford, there's also the hard sell of life in east lancashire.

Pedersen has been like this for at least three seasons. What we have been seeing is the kind of player he is; that season and a half before was a freak run of good form.

I'm happy.

I don't really want to know the specific contract details. I just know that it would have sent out the wrong message to have one of our most established Premiership players walk away on a free.

I remember when we played at WHL earlier in the season, the microphone picked up on a spurs fan shouting to MGP, "You are too good for Blackburn, we will have you here". I don't believe that to be the case, but it is the message that it sends out.

Hopefully he can continue to improve in his new position.

How much did we offer Bentley to stay, sure it was reported to be around £60k? £50-60k you would think would be our top limit for our very best players. Out of the current crop you would probably be looking at Samba, maybe Robinson pushing close to £50k i would have thought.

Pedersen must now be one of our highest earners (if this figure is true) and he isn't anywhere near our best player.

But he's one of our most effective players (stats don't lie)

*awaits people saying its only because he takes all our corner when in fact he doesnt take them all

Although some of his performances were disappointing, he provided a great number of assists throughout the season and seemed to improve towards the back end of the season

The wage he is getting may seem high, but Football wages are always rising so I am not so surprised. With the figure we have seen he is earning taking into consideration various bonuses, his standard wage will no doubt be lower than £50k. I think everyone should quit complaining about it for now and just let it be and hope he performs next season, and if he doesn't then we can all get back to the thing us Rovers fans love most; Moaning.

There's not much in the two places really.

They have central park which was probably modelled around Witton park.

They have the Brooklyn bridge but we have that nice new turqoise one.

They have grand hotels like the Waldorf Astoria but don't forget we have the issy motel.

And for me the statue of liberty pails in comparison to our lovely metal tree sculptures.

I think we'd all rather take a stroll down Darwen street than broadway or fifth avenue as well.

Tough choice but if he brings his wife and takes her to steals it could be a clencher, if only Tommy Balls was still here it would be academic.

Actually it's based on the design of a park on the wirral.

550 000 Norwegian Krone converts to £60,000

Remember singing to Lucas Neill, 60 grand you're having a laugh.

For £60'000 - a week you could throw your hat in the ring for.

Hamit Altintop.

Paolo Guerrero.

Martin Petrov.

Gonzalo Castro.

Taddei.

Mario Santana.

If i was your manager i would have released pedersen, played that promising Swedish lad you have on the left of midfield, and i would have tried to sign one of the 6 above with the £60,000 i would have saved.

With the exception of Petrov, non proven in the premiership! remember Shevchenko, Veron, etc etc?

There is little or no evidence that players are falling over themselves to play for Rovers so we could not have had any certainty that any of the players you suggest would have been willing to come. We struggle to sell the club to players sometimes and when we have a player the manager obviously trusts in that position, why try to buy a player like Petrov who has been injured for ages. We have enough of our own crocks without trying to buy anyone else's. This is obviously a position the manager could see no reason to take a risk in. We might need to be a bit morre creative and adventurous in our choice of striker and take an older possibly injury prone one or another young inexperienced one on loan as anything else is likely to be pricy, so why take risks in this position where the manager has a player he knows and thinks he can trust too?

A paper says £50k a week, therefore it must be true.

No, Pedersen's agent is saying £60k/w. It's the most informed source at the moment. Hughesy will give us the exact number very soon ;)

Nicko wrote:One agent too many sticking their nose in here...

Lens now have a bigger bid than they expected from a club in Qatar and will meet them on Friday.

Get the feeling this whole thing will collapse and he will be left with nothing.

Starting to hope that is the outcome too.

Looking back on what you said as you say the above deal is messy. That leads me to ask is this the Tevez saga all over again with him having too many people sticking their nose into this deal?. Is he owned by a third party and as the premier league rules have said all along third party transfers are not allowed. I have a feeling you are right he will find out he will have nowhere to go I think he would have been good but as you say this has been very messy and hard to do so not a lot we can do.By the way this deal from qatar how much have they bid for him I'm guessing more than the 3M wolves bid and certainly would be not worth that. Any news on the pokemon chap also on loan to Pompey any idea when he will talk to us?. I hope Fulham get him as his goal-scoring record in 10 seasons hardly reaches double figures. Can you confirm are all our earlier targets still being considered Cacau,Boselli,Bance surely they must have better scoring records than Pokemon. Any idea who our top target is and who we might go for and when things are likely to move?.

That cannot be right. There is no way we have given MGP 60k a week. 35k tops. Can Nicko get the inside track on this? 50-60k would be absolutely scandalous.

edit - okay I read back. Already a lot on this. I am terribly confused. He has been a mid ranking player, we need to get our wage budget down, he has been usurped as a left winger by Olsson. He is essentially being retained to deputise for Dunn. We cannot afford to pay all of our average players 50k a week. What the hell is going on?

Hopefully it is massively built on performace related pay. If we go down this route we are staring down our nose at annihilation.

ps. THinking about it doesn't the agent have a major interest in spinning this as positively as possible so that he will win more clients?

With the exception of Petrov, non proven in the premiership! remember Shevchenko, Veron, etc etc?

Milan saw Chelsea coming with Shevchenko, his pace was starting to fail him in his last season at AC,the very thing he had relied on through out his career to find space and get in behind the defence,Milan were stunned someone would offer such a high amount for someone who was starting to fade.I think Shevchenko was more of an Abramovich signing than Jose's im sure.I don't think he felt loved at Chelsea and his head went down.

With Veron you could argue he was played out of position by Ferguson. His wife went back home,he had his house burgled. In the end i think off field problems caused his game to suffer greatly.

Guess it depends more on a persons nature and adaptability whether he makes it in a foreign country, especially South Americans.

When Big Sam finally leaves us will you be applying for the job ?

If your Chairman was willing to match my £200,000 a year wages i would be honoured.

If that article is right and your willing to pay £1 million pound signing on fees and £50,000-£60,000 a - week in wages, your club won't need much selling.

It Amazes me what Premiership teams are willing to pay your average run of the mill player. And that will surely be the leagues downfall in the end.

Cacau signed a new contract with Stuttgart Brfcrule1,so i guess he's off your list.
