Jim Royle Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 If they've paid that waste of space £55k a week they can say goodbye to my season ticket money. Christ. Veevs Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Petrov and Weiss would be the two for me. Ireland would be perfect but way out of our league unfortunately I reckon Ireland will be involved in the milner transfer in all honesty.. and Petrov is a bit too much of a treatment room junkie..

If we've ever made a worse business decision than that then I'm a Burnley fan. a - Wrong thread b - Way too much of a knee jerk reaction.. Peds has got more assists than any of our other players, thrown in a few goals and never really gets injured c - Your right it is too much but the alternatives scare me more (A 3m player on 30k a week would of been twice as expensive this year) d - At least we now can spend the money that would of gone on his replacement elsewhere
T4E Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 davies, grabbi, ince, kidd. All bad footballing decisions, not necessarily bad business decisions. Remember 3 out of 4 of those were when Jack was either still around or not long after so we still had the cash to take risks. Ince was a promising young manager and, bottom line, a cheap option. £55k pw for a guy that has done nothing for the last 4 years and very little EVER in a Rovers shirt is absolutely shocking. I pray its not true. The Ince debacle already had me dubious about JW's running of the club, this would not help his cause.
LeChuck Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 c - Your right it is too much but the alternatives scare me more (A 3m player on 30k a week would of been twice as expensive this year) That bit isn't really correct. Transfer fees are hardly ever paid in full up front. More than likely we'd pay it over at least two years. If Pedersen really is on £55k a week, a £3 million player on £30k would work out roughly the same next season.

gumboots Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 The bit in bold is where I stopped paying attention to you. Your turn. You are over reacting to rumour. Nobody knows what players really get paid. It's your right to over react if you so wish, but don't then be surprised if you think others find it OTT and ridiculous. This is not the worst business decision by any means. It's not the worst footballing one either, though it's by no means the best. Bottom line is the manager, the club and the player are presumably happy that, in the circumstances, this is a good deal for the club and for themselves. Because of the way transfers are structured and payments to all and sundry, it might have worked out cheaper to keep him, or it might have been better value to say goodbye. We don't know because we are not privy to the figures. Those who are and those who work with him have decided this is the best thing. If you become a Burnley fan perhaps you'll really appreciate bad decisions like appointing Brian Laws.
Fife Rover Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 I agree with you gumboots. Pedersen may not be the best of players, but niether is he the worse. We know what we get from him. I also think we will see a better Pedersen playing in this new position. Which after only playing it for half a season, will still take time adjusting to it. But that is it, on his day he can be a good player for Rovers. At least he is on the field playing and not on the injury list. But I think what is also importnat he likes playing for Rovers and knows what Sam wants from him. Any other player would cost a transfer fee, wages, agents etc, would need time to adjust, get used to Sams style of play. Time is something Rovers do not have, they have to hit each season running. Keeping Pedersen allows that. I am happy to be in the minority. Others are entitled to their opinion as I also am. But I think keeping Pedersen is good for Rovers. And I also agree with both you and Gumboots, but with respect to the part of your post I have highlighted, I would like to point out that I have watched MGP playing for Norway on a number of occasions in the last 2 or 3 seasons, and on these occasions I have had to rub my eyes and metaphorically ask "is that really OUR MGP?" The reason being that on all these occasions the Norwegians have used MGP in a free role right across their midfield from wing to wing and all points in between. And I have been amazed at the difference; he has been a revalation (to me) in that role. So much so, that I have posted a number of times on this site to suggest that Rovers should be trying him out in that free midfield role. And now that Sam has at last got round to doing it in the latter part of this season just finished, then suddenly a lot of people have been noticing how much better he has performed. In that "wandering" role for Norway he has both made lots of opportunities for others to score and scored a few himself. We need to persist in this and hopefully he will produce the same for Rovers.

Gav Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 we've ever made a worse business decision than that then I'm a Burnley fan. **** off on to your own board

No wonder they're making exams easier Alright alright.........no need to be so short........ No need to be rude either. when I took my exams they were hard and only the top few got to go to Uni. No mickey mouse degrees in those days. I know you know it's a rumour. You're still over reacting to it and therefore treating it as though you think it's probably fact. I just can't believe the way people have taken the club's decision on this issue. If they thought it was too much to pay him, then they wouldn't have done it. they will have done the sums with the real figures and not with the ones we or journalists are conjuring up, so presumablyu they eckon that if we get no more than what we are currently getting out of him, it's value for maoney.

"Probably fact"? Do you teach oxymorons in your class? Just because the club think its OK to pay him this much (alleegedly) doesnt mean that we should agree with them. They are not beyond reproach, and it is dangerous to act as though they are. No doubt at some point during the Summer we'll get the usual pleading poverty stories in the press - if this new contract is as is being reported (or anywhere close) then the club have lost all right to complain. Put it this way - if MGP had come through the academy at Rovers he would never have earned more than £15k pw and would probably have been sold to a Championship club years ago. Anything anywhere near £55k for him is ludicrous.
Balwer Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 For a while there it seemed we were back on topic and the bickering had stopped. Oh well.

I can laugh at myself too. Just not at the moment, because of circumstances. and I know better than to argue English grammar with anyone. French or German yes, but English, no.
