[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

GUTI...the top priority anyway...now officially available...Zenit may well be keen on him, but Rovers have a fighting chance if he wants to come to England play better football...don't know what the night clubs are like in St.Petersburg.

I'm pretty sure Arshavin enjoyed the nightlife on a regular basis there.

The Lancashire Telegraph reports this morning that Rovers have missed out on the polish lad and will now turn their attention towards signing a "experienced" striker.

Think someone else said earlier in the thread, but i can really see the striker search dragging on and on, only for us to eventually sign Beattie.

There needs to be a realisation of how difficult it is to land decent players with little money.

Even clubs with much bigger budgets (Birmingham, Sunderland for example) struggle.

I disagree. There are tens and tens of decent strikers playing all over Europe in different leagues. The list is not 5 with Piquionne, Dindane, and Beattie heading it all the time.

Look at the French League, as there are some gems in there. The Portuguese one too has some decent options there. If we are looking to sign someone for 4 million or so I think there are options out there.

I agree with you Bobby, but Rovers are trying to get someone with a proven track record, we cannot afford to sign someone with huge potential (ala Kalanic) and then wait for them to come good, we need someone who can make a impact straight away.

If we want a target man lets just bite the bullet and go for Janko, I know his goals have come in a lower standard league but let's be honest his scoring record is pretty darn good.

What he said. Or Zigic. Or someone who actually would thrive fighting for the Robinson's long balls. There might be better goal scorers out there, but I can't see much benefit from signing some pocket-size dribbler.

I must admit I very nearly put Janko or Zigic but had no idea how the latter had faired recently. With they style of football we play we need someone to hold the ball up. Let's actually get a player in to do that job.

If we're going to bite the bullet, I'd far rather see us move for Zigic. Could even be available on loan for a season till he reaches the final year of his contract. Loan with a view for Zigic would be a good move IMO, since he seems to not be in favour with Valencia.

I just can't see Salzburg letting Janko go that cheap they have a lot of money in the bank. Apparently they turned down bids of around 4M in Jan.

We're going to struggle to get in a proven premiership goal scorer, we just need to be meticulous in our search and sign a foreign based player who's attributes should do well in our league. The strikers being mentioned for transfers at present in the league are going for silly money IE Fletcher - 7M. Money we just don't have.

EDIT: Great minds.

There are good players in the French league but it's a very different league. Niang of Marseille was the top scorer and he's big and physical, but then Marseille have just qualified for the champions league, so that's a no-no. Second highest scorer was Gameiro and all his goals were from open play i.e. he does not take the penalties, so effectively he is better than Niang. He's young too, but he relies on good passing from midfield and is not your big, take the ball from long throws, punts down field striker. Chamakh is already going to Arsenal and has been nowhere near his previous season's best. Gignac is a bulldozer but again has not hit the heights of the previous season. We can't hope to take an almost unheard of player from the French league and hope he'll do as effective a job as Nzonzi has been able to do in his postion. This is the blue riband position we're after. We have to get it right from the start this time.

Why don't we just get all our Panini World Cup 2010 sticker swaps, chuck em on the floor and whom ever the cat craps on first, put in a modest bid for?

Would seem to be as effective as our current transfer policy.

That's surely because we don't know what our current transfer policy is. What you see, hear, read about is a fraction of what goes on. We could be sounding out any number of clubs, agents and, indirectly, players (no tapping up) and we wouldn't know more than the tip of the iceberg.

Here we go... an excuse not to buy a season ticket.

HIS WAGES ARE SPECULATED AT £50K ASSUMING THE FIGURES GIVEN AND CONVERTED ARE CORRECT.

The chances are the figure is less than this amount especially with bonuses taken away! Stop crying like babies over his wages and support your team! People like you infuriate me as you are totally negative and, to be frank, not true fans.

Get a grip.

Obviously not wanting us to pay a useless, lazy, mediocre Norwegian more than anyone else at the club makes me "not a true fan". If I need to be happy with the situation to qualify as a supporter then I'm happy that I don't. Blind faith is not the answer.

Each year the club comes out with fantastic season ticket prices, solid marketing and clever individual game ticketing price schemes. I suspect they put a lot of time, thought and effort in to it all, because we need the income so desperately. To do all of that scrimping and saving to then spend the money the fans bring in on a player that quite frankly has shown over the last 4 years (and more) that he is not willing to match that effort would be incredibly stupid if it turns out to be true.

With the 400 mile round trip I do to home games that Bellamy11 mentioned, I don't need any other excuse not to buy a season ticket. The club on the other hand do have to do the right things to convince me to do so. £55k a week for Morten Gamst Pedersen is not the way to attract renewals, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks so.

This is how i see it: is 55k a week too much for Morten? Yes, i dont think anyone on here is saying otherwise.

However, is it cheaper to slighty bump his wages up or paying a £4/5m transfer fee plus high wages for his replacement? i think it is. Lets face it, we're not going to attract a significantly better player then Morten (an average Prem player) so i dont think its worth getting too angry about this.

In principle i understand exactly what you're saying, he really hasnt done anything to earn a pay increase, but from the club's perspective its saved a heck of a lot of time/effort and probably money which we can now spend in other areas.

Why have you just explained how transfers work to a grown man who made a joke?

Nicko, do you know anything about Seb Larsson's contract negotiations? I like the lad, think he can deliver a good ball and he's caused us problems down the years. Think he'd be worth a go on a freebie.

I believe there is some sort of option - and he is still a Birmingham player for another year. He is ok, but not in a priority position at the moment.

I understand your opinion that it is too much and believe me IF that is the correct figure then yes it is a bit in excess! But these figures are purely being speculated. It could be a wage substantially less than £55k with a number of bonuses in there. And to be honest, with Pedersen chipping in with more assists than anyone, on a stat sheet he is a very valuable player and to sign a player of similar quality would probably cost more overall. The wage he was speculated was also in Krone and does look a bit too much and everyone knows how shrewd Williams is so maybe his agent got a bit muddled with the exchange rate? haha.

I just think using this as an excuse not to purchase a season ticket is a bit extreme. If it was a combination of reasons then understandable, but purely off SPECULATION of us paying him this is a bit silly.

Anyways let's hope we sign some good players / prospects that help sway you towards renewing your season ticket!

Considering Givet and Nozinz have been excellent successes I would say that is a bit harsh. We have spent well and performed well becuase of it.

Strikers have been a bit of a problem though with Di Santo and Kalinic flopping.
