What I really don't understand re: our finances, is that the promoted teams drool over the massive windfall from the Premier League, and yet a consistent side such as ourselves, finishing in the top 10, haven't got two pennies to rub together. If our wage budget is sucking it dry, then it's high time we looked at our pay structure. That means no juicy bonuses for the likes of Pedersen and Andrews.

It's the wage budget sucking it dry. That's why it puzzles me that we offered MGP a new 4 year pay increase and we are looking at Guti (who if Nicko is correct would cost £60-70k per week- surely becoming our highest earner?)

IMO It's looking highly likely to me that we will have to sell someone to pay for Guti's wages, Pedersen's wage increase and to bring in some of Sam's targets. Samba will probably be that cash cow.

Does this mean next season he'll still be stuck on what he achieved last season whilst Rovers stutter along during the coming season, rather than planning now on how to improve and move the club forward ?.

And in english....?

I think Sam means that he's going to enjoy his holiday. Which obviously he should be arrested for.

He should be with JW on the ###### phone, discussing new targets. He is too relaxed about it, and you sense he is happy to go into the 1st few games with the current squad. Im obviously wrong about that, but hey i need something to moan about. ;)

Dont see money being an issue for Rovers, the right money should go on the right player rather than scraping the barrel in the donkeys are us market trying to turn thats sows ear in to a silk purse.

Maybe a big weakness of big Sams is being a former centre half, is, identifying a good striker. At Bolton I can only recall Nicolas Anelka as anyone of top quality at Bolton, the rest were avarge at best including Kevin pudding Davies.

Sorry I cant work the sodding reply option but here goes

Maybe as a centre half and playing against strikers week in and week out he probably has a unique perspective on what it takes to beat a centre half and score goals. He rescued both Anelka and Davies, maybe he will do the same with Benjani.

Clearly we dont have the wonga and he knows he is going to have to get bargain basement deals. His record so far is pretty good and however painful it may be at times the League table still has us at 10th last time i looked. He has built a solid balance of experience and youth and taking risks with young players in major games has paid dividends and gives us real options for next year. He deserves a holiday. No email or cellphone. Maybe it's the shopping center down the road from me :-)

I would say buy a player that can create and in Kalinic and/or Roberts you would have a striker scoing 15 goals or more a season.

Strikers need a supply - a point that appears to be missing from any potential signings plot.

ANY striker worth his salt in ANY division will score goalks with a supply line.

Exactly. We don't need a striker, we need BFS to change his system and get the best from Niko, and we need to sign someone to supply the chances. Why Sam thinks we need another striker is beyond me - even Rooney would struggle to get 10 goals with the limited number of chances we create at present. I think Guti, and a left back should be the priority. Givet should be at centre-half with Samba, and Olsson is a left winger and wasted at full-back ....

Creative midfielder and a goalscorer is fine with me. I think the team is ok. But if we are going for europe, we have to invest. West Ham, Fulham ect. are clubs who are going to invest.

Adriano is a free transfer, i know he is a special case. What about Fred who used to play for Lyon but are in Brazil at the moment, i think he could do the job. There are loads of other players who are much better than the usual suspects.

Soldado is out of the picture ? its crazy, every day is the same story as we have seen for the last 6-12 months.

I know we argue about this a lot!

However, we certainly don't NEED to change the system. The system we used last season lead us to tenth. Undoubtedly some fans want us to change the system, but that's a very different thing to needing to.

We do need a striker that can play comfortably in our system, but the system itself is proven to be successful. We can't just change it to satisfy misfiring strikers.

Many of the named WILL keepcoming round because there is obvious interest in them - sometimes going back a year or more.

Managers see something in a player that they think they can work on and improve.

I am sure there would have been total despair at Bolton when Sam signed Kevin Davies...he was on the way out of the game at the time...how did that work out?

For every Kevin Davies there are 10 Francis Jeffers. Benjani has had several chances at several clubs and only managed to look halfway decent at one of them. He has injury problems, must earn a decent packet and there is little difference between him and Jason Roberts. Give me Roberts any day and let's save our money. Have we seriously restricted our search to "players who have scored a premier league goal in the last three years, are a bit too old, earn too much and are no better than our current third or fourth choice"?

I love how as soon as we're linked with Benjani, Sam gets abuse for lacking ambition whilst at the same time we're still hot on the trail for Guti.

If we get Guti then i wont give a damn about whether Benjani arrives. Id probably take Benjani over Roberts personally.

That's because the list of the four we are rumoured to be interested in (although I do appreciate that it is mostly speculation) will not improve our side. On top of that I'm not even that impressed by us going after Guti. An aging Spanish player who's reputation got a serious boost because of the club he played for would not have been the top of my list coming into this summer. I'm all for bringing in bits of experience and talented when possible, they can make valuable additions to the squad, both in the short-term on the pitch and in the dressing room (occasionally long-term like Tugay), but it would seem to me that it's only sensible to do this when they are truly affordable and don't become your highest earning player. Not all of them come off and it's quite possible that Guti could be outpaced and outmuscled in this league, so maybe best to not go all-in on him.

Um, I don't disagree that we're crying out for a playmaker, but we DO need a striker. We only have Kalinic and Roberts, atm.

Nicko, although you mention Benjani being high up on the list I would have thought our other targets would be higher up the list inc: Bance Dindane's bro in law,Tresor- The african player of the year,Janko,Beattie would be much higher up the list have we approached any of their clubs about these players?. Is Sam likely to approach these better players before even considering the cringeworthy Benjani?. Is it also known Janko, Bance,Tresor what fee their clubs might want and what their wages are likely to be?. Surely the other targets are within budget & a bid needs to be lodged before even considering Benjani.

p.s. Is there going to be an 11'oclocker tonight any movement on Guti?.

Big Sam is currently sunning himself (not a pleasant mental image) on a beach in Mauritius, my sister's on her honeymoon there now and saw him at breakfast this morning.

I would have thought with the emphasis on having signings in place pre World Cup that he'd have been here trying to wrap up some new players. Very disappointed with the Benjani rumours.

I'm not worried of benjanis skill as a player, I coul actually see him do good in Rovers. BUT - having followed blackburn all my life, knowing how scarce every penny is for them at the moment, I can not condone signing a benjani with his injury record and age. We have been waiting window after window for some money to spend, and when the board finally indicate that we can buy something-I dont want to see it go to waste. Or we could run out of saleable assets very soon-which eventually would spell championship for our beloved club

Forget Guti... Charlie Adam. Sign him up!

Was saying to a Blackpool fan colleague at work that I'd love to see us put in a bid for Charlie Adam, looks a very talented player from what I've seen of him and would be ideal for Rovers. To think Blackpool only paid 500k for him when we've paid over a million for Andrews who is far less effective.

Are we still intersted in Ledley or is that interest over now that Pedersen's signed up again? I won't go into the wage debate but I'd have much rather shipped Pedersen out and got Ledley in.

Cracking game at the moment btw!

So..you want to change the system to (I assume given your previous posts) a 4-4-2 yet you don't want another striker despite the fact we'll only have two in the squad next season?
