Hughesy Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Forgive me but this figure, £2-3m where has it come from ? we know Rovers sold Fatty for £2m - that money is SAFE. we know that Rovers finished 10th, 3 places above the budget spot of 13th, increase of prize money is £2.1m and we know from the horses mouth that MONEY is SAFE also. That makes a minimum cash pot of approx £4.1m MINIMUM. Now then, add wages saved, higher tv money, increased gate revenue, increased shirt sales, bar revenue, corporate (I know Rovers have been voted in the top 3 corporate value wise) sales/income, added tv bonus money, money from Bentley (final installments) and I fail to see how a transfer budget for Rovers cannot be a mimimum of around £8m. Ok I think im allowed to post this.... I too thought exactly like that - but I was but straight by the guy I know. We basically have £3m ish to spend....dont forget players recieve bonus payments based on finishes, so they receive more for finishing top 10. Also Salgado WAS NOT budgetted for, and Sam blagged the board that it was a good move (which it turned out to be). Therefore the extra TV money basically covered Salgado + Bonus payments. Leaving the Benni cash left over + some saved wages...the rest is up to Sam to wheel n deal - hole on the wage budget should soon appear with the likes of Di Santo being sent back, Reid leaving etc.

Stuart Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Not having that Salgado stuff, Hughsey. We were told that Warnock was sold to take care of the his costs.
AJW Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 fair commemt hughsey so we , as john williams as said , are a trading club , therefore we have space for 1 signing , and in order to add players we will have to let players leave before we can bring anybody in
John Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Aruna Dindane, meanwhile, has confirmed he has joined Qatari side Al-Shorta.
Amo Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Also Salgado WAS NOT budgetted for, and Sam blagged the board that it was a good move (which it turned out to be) *ahem*.. Over budgetted?? when have we ever done that, other than when Ince nearly got us relegated!?
Backroom Tom Posted May 23, 2010 Backroom Posted May 23, 2010 Aruna Dindane, meanwhile, has confirmed he has joined Qatari side Al-Shorta. I presume for purely footballing reasons? What a waste of a half decent player.

Massive increase in TV revenue this year, two major player sales last season, major earners leaving the club now and previously. There is some money.
saxo1man30 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Very much alive. Guti has been told he can go by Real. I don't think Jose will change that plan. He is clear to talk to other clubs, so Rovers are there pitching - via Salgado - and will want an answer soon. Hopefully that happens fast. interesting to note that guti has played a significant amount of games as a striker with great success. maybe sam has ideas in that direction?
Hughesy Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 *ahem*.. True....but wouldnt over budget be if we hadnt hit 10th n not secured the extra cash?! I do not buy this. Massive increase in TV revenue this year, two major player sales last season, major earners leaving the club now and previously. There is some money. Extra TV money comes from this season....dont forget the trust wanted us to cut wages by £5m, which didnt happen last season - so it will need to now.

However - for 1/2 a season we didn't have Benni's wages - we gained £1m from additional TV appearances - our average gate was up - we got additional revenue from two Cup semi finals (both shown on telly) - oh and don't forget Benni's fee. On top of this the premier league signed a new foreign rights deal - way in excess of even the most optimistic estimate. If you info is correct something really doesn't add up.
ewoodpo Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Why is it that every club has money to spend besides us .
philipl Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Why is it that every club has money to spend besides us . Try saying that to a Wigan or Newcastle supporter.

If we had a £5M hole in the budget last season, we'll have it again next season. As we haven't filled the hole by reducing our wage budget by the £5M, we'll fill it with the extra revenue from TV, rights and the placement money. And the only "extra" money is the Benni money + some extra left over from filling the hole. So this time we wouldn't have so sell anyone - hence the Williams' statement about changing from selling to trading club. No facts, just guesses
koi Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Why is it that every club has money to spend besides us . Why is it that every club has bigger debts to service than us. JW and his team run a tight ship and I am positive we will be stronger than many in the long run.
beerwins Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Well I certainly would'nt class myelf as good with numbers but last summer the club from transfer dealings alone must have been around 15 mill profit also add the fact of selling Benni + his wages and extra revenue from tv adds up to the fact that we are skint thats certainly not good. If this is the kind of money the club has to make to survive in the prem with the smallest transfer budget of all the other teams surely this is going to put a big question mark over the future, dont get me wrong we have some decent players coming through but we still need some quality bringing in and paying Pederson that kind of wage or Salgado surely isnt good business. John williams must be doing a fantastic job at rovers and if he isnt im certainly on the lookout for a guy with short arms, long pockets that slightly resembles Greengrass. I feel we need a buyer within the next year or the shape of pears could be soon to be discussed, scary really.
Mr. E Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Try saying that to a Wigan or Newcastle supporter. Newcastle have spent more money over the seasons that we can ever dream of possessing. Including the Jack Walker era. They had enough money to retain most of their top players despite their relegation, which includes Argentinian World Cup stars. And the kicker is that no matter how much money they waste and the lower they fall, they still seem to have a bottomless pit. While no matter what we achieve, which is consistently much better than Newcastle, we have to face these issues season after season. Same can be said for Aston Villa and Spurs really, but when you throw enough money at it, eventually you'll get it right.
Emge Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 If anything that would be to replace Heskey. I'd love Carew though, remember watching him play for rover's youth team (or the reserves not sure) in the 90s. Class act. Hell yeah! Bring on Carew. He's from my hometown so I would be absolutely delighted!
rebelmswar Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 So when Williams says we have money to spend he means that literally and not figuratively - money being “some” as opposed to “quite a lot” Is that right?
confab Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I wonder if Chelsea's Miroslav Stoch will be available? I know the Di Santo loan didn't work out for us but we need a creative midfielder and Stoch was supposedly in superb form for Twente last season.
herbergeehh Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 Unable to sleep, and having watched every Guti video there is on youtube, I present to you a master plan for Rovers anno next season - should Guti arrive. (Which I still doubt, unless Salgado and John Magic Williams really exceed themselves. OK, there's no master plan, but I am starting to count on this, feverishly. My hope is to see our pace players run willingly forward to give room for Guti's brilliant passing. Martin Olsson has been absolutely brilliant in midfield, harassing defenders with attacking runs. Junior Hoilett is capable of doing the same thing, although he's been a bit erratic.. Kalinic moves smartly, as does David Dunn and Morten Gamst Pedersen. Now I don't know where Guti should be playing - deep as a playmaker, or off the striker. I do think he could do the defensive job very well though, providing he's got N'Zonzi and Dunn or Gamst Pedersen alongside him. ---------Guti, N'Zonzi--------- --MGP------Dunn-----Olsson-- -----------Kalinic----------- Hoilett, Emerton, Grella, Roberts, the new striker(s) or even Linganzi could put pressure on these.. Sorry if this messes up the thread, it was really to start a discussion on Guti's prospective role, and how we could benefit from having a Tugayesque passer of the ball in our team. Good night.
BPF Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 After reading through the last three pages, I'm incredibly grateful that some of you aren't in charge of our budget!
Eddie Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I presume for purely footballing reasons? What a waste of a half decent player. I think he's found his level.
BigUts Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I think he's found his level. Money makes the world go around! "I want to stay in the Premier League at any cost"...not a million or so though!
