Money makes the world go around!

"I want to stay in the Premier League at any cost"...not a million or so though!

Pity because he was 2 in 1, capable of playing up-front or wide on the right. We desperately need pace on that right-hand side and I was hoping he'd provide it. I know we have Hoilett but whether he'll develop to the level we require is unknown. Still clearly Dindane is merely after the most money he can get and he's therefore better off with someone else.

No point inhaving someone to create chances if there's nobody to put the ball in the net, and I've seen little from Benjani to suggest he can do that. May be wrong, but if so then show me the evidence that's he's a regular 10 goal a season man, let alone the 15 or so we probably need

Forgive me but this figure, £2-3m where has it come from ?

we know Rovers sold Fatty for £2m - that money is SAFE.

we know that Rovers finished 10th, 3 places above the budget spot of 13th, increase of prize money is £2.1m and we know from the horses mouth that MONEY is SAFE also.

That makes a minimum cash pot of approx £4.1m MINIMUM.

Now then, add wages saved, higher tv money, increased gate revenue, increased shirt sales, bar revenue, corporate (I know Rovers have been voted in the top 3 corporate value wise) sales/income, added tv bonus money, money from Bentley (final installments) and I fail to see how a transfer budget for Rovers cannot be a mimimum of around £8m.

I know we are BRFC and I know the hole previously swallowed cash but now that hole is filled there isnt anywhere else for the money to go.

As far as I know Warren, the only comments coming from anyone inside Ewood, were these. The rest is pure guesswork:

Allardyce

Benjani is possibly one of the worst strikers Ive ever seen. How could anyone be happy with him being our striker signing. Id rather keep Keith Andrews and try him up there.

You're hyperventilating. No way is Benjani that bad and if he comes I'll be surprised if you don't see that yourself. Every player we are linked with is written off on here before he even gets here. There are even people saying Guti is not that good! I blame the climate, we are a miserable lot.

Didn't benjani set up 3 of the goals when city spanked us earlier in the season? I know it's not a great example as I'm pretty sure a girls under 12 side would have beaten us with the display that we put on that day.

If we had a £5M hole in the budget last season, we'll have it again next season. As we haven't filled the hole by reducing our wage budget by the £5M, we'll fill it with the extra revenue from TV.

No facts, just guesses :)

A pretty accurate guess too. Common sense if we didnt cut it by £5m last season, then we still have that £5m problem this season (which as mentioned in the budget we get extra TV money this year - so that effectively goes to service that £5m cut....bringing down our % of wages/ turnover etc).

Be glad that our club is run so well - we could always have £80m+ debt like other clubs and be hanging on by our finger nails - or we could stick to what we do best, stay in the league & let other 'bigger' clubs fall around us.

A question to all those who check through the accounts.

Do we end up paying taxes and the such on our recieved transfer fess? If so any idea how much?

I can tell you that Newcastle paid £2.6 million in tax for Shearer, I have the invoice in front of me

Benjani works hard and gives it his all, but if the club think that he is going to score consistently, then they are wrong. Sam talked about how we needed a top striker to be able to finish all the chances that we create. Well those cost money and shopping in the bargain basement isn't going to produce one. I know that yet again this transfer window we have little to spend, but if there is the belief that we can get a regular goal scorer for about £3 million, then people are deluded. I'd like us to go after Felipe Caicedo who has the potential to be a good striker.

I always thought he was an ok striker, then someone suggested I look at his goal scoring stats, they are pretty bad!

Team Games (Goals)
Jomo Cosmos: 45	(20)
Grasshopper: 25	(1)
Auxerre: 72 (19)
Portsmouth: 70 (19)
Manchester City: 23 (4)
Sunderland: 8 (0)

Surely not Ricky?! If Allardyce thinks a girl, under 12, is the answer to our striker problems than I'm really going to have to question him. I’m all for investing in youth but surely this would be one step too far. I can't think of any women who are prolific strikers in the Premier League let alone girls.

Signing a small girl, under 12, would be one of our worst signings in recent times, nearly as bad as signing Robbie Fowler. Mind you Guti does have girls hair. And Morten is a bit like a girl, but he can take throw ins.

Where did the Carew rumour come from? I'd have him here over Beattie, Benjani etc. It wouldn't be a breathtaking signing, but he'll suit our tactics a treat.

Still incredulous that we've got jack to spend. The numbers simply aren't adding up here, and makes certain "contractual" decisions even more astounding...

The sooner Kalinic plays up front with the new signings in place, the better - I'm starting to fear that he'll be second choice this season behind the new striker. What he needs is service, and plenty of support from his manager. He is our goal-scorer if we use him right, that means playing off the shoulder of the defenders or as a target for early crosses behind the defensive line.

Because we don't completely know or understand the inner financial workings of the club its always going to appear that way. What worries me is that given we have had a good season pretty much as good as would could have hoped for, we need to match that next year just to sign one decent player. Its even less now than we had with Hughes and his normal 5 million budget. One thing is abundantly clear that the financial structure of our club needs re-assessment and re-structuring, quickly.

But this come back to the debate that was taking place on here prior to Sam coming. He always plays a certain way, always has and it seems he always will. I think Kalinic is going to have to adapt into the type of striker Sam wants as Sam's system will get results. It does work and I don't see the system changing anytime soon, as we've tried a couple of different ones last season and always reverted back.

Despite we most think about adapting to suit Kalinic better so he scores goals it means changing every thing. We need to start the season as we finished it and that will mean the same system of play so Kalinic will have to adapt.

I agree, though I don't hold much confidence in this happening.

Our midfield is shocking in all honesty, take away Dunny or if he has a bad run of form and we have no creativity whatsoever. Pedersen puts in the rare decent free-kick or corner, apart from that he isn't a decent attacking force whatsoever. If we can't improve the midfield substantially then we need to look towards bringing in someone who can work with Kalinic and get the best out of him.

Problem is can you see Sam moving from the lone striker option? 4-3-3 is an option, with our current players though i can't see it working.

did Sam not say, that he wants a striker in before the World Cup? so why is he on holiday? Would JW be handling all negotiations, based on who Sam has identified?

He's on holiday...not dead! Nicko has said he's after Guti 1st too (As per the board).

Lets not forget Benjani is a freebie - a freebie that is better than Jason Roberts!

In what way is he better than Roberts? I would rather we kept Roberts any day rather than sign Benjani.

At best its a like for like signing, assuming we move Roberts on that is.
