Benjani on a free seems good business to me, we need strikers adding to the squad.

However, it's only a good move as long as we get this 'goalscorer' that Sam says we need, because he certainly isn't that.

In what way is he better than Roberts? I would rather we kept Roberts any day rather than sign Benjani.

At best its a like for like signing, assuming we move Roberts on that is.

Of what iv seem of him - he tends to take the easy chances (Which generally roberts wastes). He also works very hard (granted so does Roberts). I think he would probably help to create for Roberts.

Im not saying Benjani should be our main striker, but as a 3rd striker option for FREE it seems decent to me. He's also decent in the air.

31 isnt too old for a striker either - should have at least 2-3 years left at the top level...which for free isnt bad.

As for Like for like - Roberts would command a fee (Linked with Leeds), Benjani doesnt - so it would possibly give us abit more cash to play with!

did Sam not say, that he wants a striker in before the World Cup? so why is he on holiday? Would JW be handling all negotiations, based on who Sam has identified?

I too think that it is outrageous that Sam has decided to take a holiday in the closed season, especially when he has decided to leave his mobile phone at home and there will be no internet connection anywhere in the vicinity of his villa.

I can't believe people actually want Benjani, he's complete rubbish !

I can't believe people still want us to be owned by the Walkers but there you go!

I don't actually hear anybody saying"Quick go out there and get Benjani". IMO he's not as bad as he's being painted on here but we would all like some one better. It seems the money does not exist for that and won't until the current owners find a buyer. Its a scary situation we are in but not as bad as Portsmouth! We continue to get by for now but this can't go on much longer.

"BLACKBURN Rovers have not ruled out moving back in for former targets Benjani and James Beattie"

It must be quiet in there if having not ruled out someone means they're "back on radar".

I don't know where people are getting this myth from about Benjani working hard - I work with a City season ticket holder and he said he's basically a lazy tw*t.

He's probably a better finisher than Roberts, and better in the air but other than that Roberts is better in most other aspects ....

Hypothetical scenario/ question:

In....

Guti - Freebie

Ledley - Freebie (but probably £2-3m in compo)

Benjani - Freebie

Outs - Reid, Di Santo, possibly also Zurab & Judge

Would we be stronger from that?!

So many question marks over all three of those players. Could Ledley make the step up? Yes i think he could but i could be wrong. Would an ageing Guti that's past his prime handle the english style of football? Benjani has loads of question marks when it comes to his ability to score and the state of his knees.

Long term then you look at 2 of those players will cost big wages, we already have a wage budget that absorbs pretty much all the money coming into the club.

Then you look at tactics, if Sam was to continue playing one striker and that is Benjani where are the goals going to come from?

I don't think you can say for sure whether we would be stronger or not, my gut feeling is there is a great chance for this transfer window being a complete disaster looking at the players we are targeting.

Nicko, any info about Rovers sales? Reid is off and Di Santo goes back to Chelsea. Zurab will obviously be gone too and Sam said he doesn´t need Judge. Jakobsen or Chimbonda will probably go too. Neither of them need no replacement. I think we could sell Brown or Bunn also. Do you think some of these sales would effect Sam´s buying budget?

Mark - when i got to the last bit "I work with a City season ticket holder" I stopped taking any notice!! Thieir world and our world is very different now!

True, they operate on a differnt planet to us financially, but a lazy player is still lazy no matter how much money is involved ....

We already have a donkey who holds the ball up and doesn't score much and that's Roberts. No need for Benjani whatsoever when we have Roberts.

Thats the thing though, Roberts doesnt hold the ball up well at all. For someone so big and strong he is actually quite poor at it.

Sam wants to play with a strong big front man like he alays has done, this player isnt gonna get many but he will bring more goals for the rest of the team. This is the way Sam has always played and we may as well let him get the players in he wants to do this, on the back of last season he desrves a bit of trust.

I hear Beattie is NOT on the list any more.

So who is on the list nowadays or is it still the usual suspects, i.e. Benjani, Piquionne?

With Dindane, Lewandowski and Beattie supposedly now out the picture the possibilities are reducing rapidly. Do you still think we will probably end up with a loan striker? There must be a cheap striker out there somewhere who is a better option than Benjani! Even if it means looking down into the Championship, surely there is a decent striker available.

Luca Toni linked with a move to West Ham.. Where are we? Cant we have another Toni-summer? :)

I'm sure if there is any truth in Toni going to a club like West Spam then Rovers will be at least having a sniff around. I wouldn't hold your breath though, I'd expect the muppets Gold & Sullivan would pay the lad £100k/week to take him to London rather than him sign for us.

Sorry if this has already been posted.

Any of our Bundesliga followers who can give us a input on this guy?

Rovers monitoring Ghanaian midfielder.

If we are interested I hope we tie up the deal before WC and not risk that the prize will go

further up.

He was one of the reasons that Hoffenheim had such a successful return to the Bundesliga and have been a consistent side since their promotion. He can certainly get around the pitch and is extremely powerful. I doubt that he would be much better than N'Zonzi though. I'd be happy if we had another powerhouse midfielder, he would be a better option than Keith Andrews.
