[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

It's a total shambles, but legally the Premier League could not stop an administrator selling a player any time they wanted to...this is just a fudge.

It could have worked five weeks ago when it was first suggested but now it is too late to make any difference.

Who is buying a Pompey player just now in those circumstances? Nobody.

My question is who may be in talks with Pompey at this stage and intervened with the Premier League to push them into the direction of allowing Pompey to deal with other clubs... Arsenal? Man Utd? I appreciate that there are not many top class players at Pompey but I'm sure there are vultures waiting for the likes of James.

At this moment in time any club can make a signing ready for the paperwork to go through at the end of the season, as Spurs did yesterday. My understanding is that Pompey had a transfer embargo placed on the club, therefore not even pre-contract agreements could be made.

The difference here is that Spurs have lined up a deal which will go through at the end of the season, at which point money will change hands and they'll start paying his wages. Pompey want to sell now, get the money in now and stop paying wages now. Therefore the buying club will be paying wages of a player that they cannot use until July/August.

I know it's utterly pointless trying to work out what kind of team we'll be lining up after a transfer window, but it is fun doing it (especially since I sold football manager!). I'm hoping that, after the ins-and-outs, we'll have something like...

........................ Robbo

Salgado .... Samba ... Givet ... Olsson

.............. N'Zonzi ..... Ledley

... Diouf ............ Dunn ......... Ibricic

........................ Kalinic

Subs: Bunn, Jacobsen, Nelsen, Emerton, Pedersen, Hoilett, Lewandowski

Rest: Fielding, Jones, Andrews, Judge, Doran, Lingzani, Roberts

Gone: Brown, Grella, Chimbonda, Basturk, Di Santo, Reid, Zurab, Rigters

Might need a cheapo loan full back to boost numbers slightly, but apart from that I think we'd be well balanced there. Ibricic, or someone of that ilk (pacey goalscoring wide player) is the priority for me.

I think it is a bit much to expect Dunn to be any more than a bench player next season - we should be looking for a top player to come into that role of possible.

Plus I will be amazed if pedersen stays. He will go as there are others who will, rightly or wrongly, pay more than we will offer.

This gesture by the Premier League is empty now. It's for show, but so much is with that mob.

Marc Wilson could have been sold in February when the idea was first suggested, but the buying club won't offer the same deal now - especially as they can't play him.

What's the point in buying a player you can't use? Just wait until the summer.

The only deals they could do are bargain-basement jobs - and that is a small market now.

What have they go to sell? James [free in summer], Wilson, Boateng [is he fit?], Belhadj [maybe]? The best of the rest are only there on loan anyway.

Crazy.

I think you're being a bit harsh on Robbo....Can't see us coming up with anyone better, so for us, he's the best we can hope for after Brad.

Quite a few fans are still unsure on Robbo. I think he is the best we can get (based on our money) but others clearly think we could do better.

I do believe a main midfield man is our most needed player...it would make a big difference to us! Defensively we seem to have enough players to cover all positions, wings are pretty much covered (unless MGP or Diouf leave), however the middle and our attack are still short.

That is correct B4E, but the players can join up with their new club but not play in the first team this season.

mate, I'm with you. I can't believe how rotund Brown seems to be. Surely he can't be as agile as he needs to be at this level and his height worries me too.

Oh sorry, I thought you were implying something something else.

Somebody mentioned elsewhere that he weighs over 15 stone and is only 5'11 in height!

.........which I'm sure you'll agree is a waste of wages when you can just start paying them in July.

It would be different if Pompey had a host of stars that teams wanted to secure early in order to stop others getting them, but they don't. Thats why they're bottom of the league.

I agree. It is a waste of wages, but if we sneaked in under the radar and whipped away Prince-Boateng & Dindane and got them in training before the end of this season that would be a great bit of business. The problem is that Pompey will advertise every offer to spark bidding wars to get the price of the players up as high as possible.

I'm afraid Pompey's troubles will continue well into next season and until some of their expensive squad members contracts are up. There is no demand for players of that quality in the Prem, we all have our own fair share of them.

Nicko - What has happened on the Dindane front - seems to have gone a little quiet?????

Also is it the same regarding Franco De Santo - He 99% not going to become a permanent rover :( are we more likely to get benjani, beattie or Aruna instead?

thanks.

Di Santo hasn't really made much of an impact, I'd be surprised to see us make a move to sign him permanently.

Pedersen/Bresciano is an interesting one but swaps don't happen these days.

Re the Pompey debate, Pompey management were negligent in not selling players in the window and I'd certainly have my lawyers looking at that aspect if I were a creditor.

it can't be a swap as pedersen is free. it says..

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is keen to take Mark Bresciano in the other direction.

Nicko just a quick question I heard pompey cannot afford to play Dindane again due to the terms of his loan from lens if he plays they will have to pay 4M for him can you tell me is Dindane still with the club or has he gone back to Lens seems a bit pointless if he is not playing to keep him on the sidelines and pay his wages also will Lens sell him in the summer?

I wouldn't mind dindane being at Rovers. as crazy as the situation is, I suggest a deal could be made with him. He is on loan at pompey - who cannot afford to play him - lens don't want him back. so surely if the prem have given permission for pompey to sell players due to the administration, this must also mean getting loan players off their wage bill.

Which then opens up another ball game. To allow that fifa etc would have to give permission for other clubs to allow these loanees to move on to other clubs. Which then would destroy the transfer windows, as other clubs would consider that unfair.

As you say it is crazy.

Bresciano and Grella famously have a very strong relationship, I wonder if thats a factor in this interest. If having him here could somehow help Grella stay fit I'd be all for it, he's our best CM by far.
