I really hope we don't go in for Kris Boyd. He seems to me to be a big fat useless lump with a bad attitude. He has scored loads of goals in the SPL but has also often been left out of what is generally regarded as being just about the worst ever Rangers teams. He is also known to be a moaner and a bad influence so I would rather give him a wide berth, a very wide 1 in fact with his girth.

The guy scores goals in Scotland, but has failed to deliver in the big games against Celtic and has often been overlooked. I know that many Rangers fans have questioned his attitude in the past when it came to training and playing. He would not be a good buy for us at all.

The Lancashire Telegraph reports that Rovers are considering making a move for Kris Boyd. Finances must be really tight as rovers continue to scour the bargain basement.

What is Boyd's record against European opposition?

I think it is worth pointing out that where Rovers under Sam have failed in a pusuit, the target has usually done something impressive eg Guti staying at Madrid, Chamakh to Arsenal, Lewandowski and so on.

Holy hells, that's an incredible achievement at that age, even in the Belgian League (which has actually churned out some very good players don't forget). Top scorer at 16!!! I've never heard of such a thing in a top flight. Already physically developed enough to handle it (and probably the Prem too, physically that is), has to be worth a look. The problem being it seems like we might already be too late, judging by the clubs linked with him, and he would probably cost a lot, but it's the sort of signing I'd be creaming myself about, even if he didn't play much the first year.

We might be better keeping tabs on or snatching his one-year-younger brother though, according to the article he's making waves in the youth team like his older bro did. Wonder if we could exploit that rule (think it still exists or ever did in Belgium) about signing players for free before they turn 16 and sign pro terms?

According to the article he has played a friendly for Belgium, but I read that friendlies don't tie you permanently to a country anymore. Sounds like he has at least a good, and possibly an astonishing career ahead of him.

I'd certainly heard of the lad come the start of last year, but I'd no idea he'd done so well for anderlecht. Looking at the lad I won't deny I'm slightly dubious of his supposed 16 year's as he's very very developed. I'll have to hope he gets a move to either spain or england soon so I can go watch him.

Kris Boyd

Cetrainly not a lone striker, but can certainly finish.

We had, for us, a bit of money to spend last summer and struggled to bring in a striker – still very early days in the window so no need for too much panic yet.

On Boyd, it would be slightly risky for us, even though with no fee he is an attractive option. Whilst Boyd has a track record of scoring goals, against poor teams, most of these are set up on a plate because Rangers dominate other sides.

I can see why we are possibly interested however his poor work rate could also be an issue. Plus, would think other Premier League clubs, around our level, could be interested too.

Considering our lack of resources, a risk worth taking maybe….

Those statistics really bring out how poor Rangers have been in Europe recently.

The key question is, can he adapt to life at Ewood and the Premier League better than our last big Scottish import?

Perhaps in the Champions league, but they did well in the UEFA back in 07/08.

On Boyd, would we have to change everything to fit in him the starting 11? Smith played most of that european campagin with him on the bench in their 451 and I wonder if thats the sort of role we would have in mind for him, coming off with 20 or so to go to nick that goal.

With Kalinic in the squad I'm just not too sure anymore that he's the right sort of foil for him. But if he could be enticed to work hard on his physical side we could end up with a good player. I'd say the reason he doesn't get that many against the better teams is he doesn't move enough and if that could be enhanced then he'd be a good player. But if not, we could end up with yet another Benni type of player.

I know everything is speculation, but I can't help but feel led up the garden path with these signings. The Polish guy (has he moved anywhere yet?), Guti..........

And now Kris Boyd is linked, a player whose renouned for scoring goals in a league that Danny Cadimateri is a respectable striker. I can't wait until we are linked with Mokoena, Bothroyd and Nugent.

It makes sense.....however only as the 3rd or 4th option.

Some news reports today also say Newcastle are favs to sign him.

Dont know enough about him to comment, he has scored goals at national level & a couple in Europe....but whats he like as a player? Work hard? Natural finisher? Any good in the air?

Being reported in the mirror that Gutti has turned us down in favour of another year at Madrid.

Pity that.

I would think that story is based on the quotes in Spain two days ago...

And those quotes said nothing at all.

Nicko - no news still then? Heard anything about Boyd, Ledleys or Beckfords next locations?!

Waiting on Guti is the current topic on the agenda...

Boyd is as far from a Sam Allardyce player as I can imagine. Not mobile, doesn't join in the team play. Would be amazed if that was right.

Ledley would only be considered if Guti didn't come...and is not that great.

Beckford? Is Darren making a comeback?

Nicko, any news on Yebda?

Last I heard of him, he went back to Benfica and wants to stay there. But I doubt he will, he would be 3rd option for the team. So, he will probably be sold or loaned out again.

I think he would be a good replacement for Reid.

In the same situation is Makukula, who was the best striker in the turkish league...

If thats to me.Only Alan Nixon can answer that.

You must have paid him 200k in wages by now,and he's only played 1 half of football so far.

So surely you will release him.

I heard basturk was on a pay as you play deal, so doubt that he has earnt 1/2 of that.
