[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Why is this Vukcevic free agent? Weren´t we very interested in him but his price tag was close to £10M? I´ve never seen him play. Riquelme is a wet dream but not realistic even for Sam. A lot of great players on R.Policano´s list. We should try to bring few of them to Ewood.

Nicko or anyone, is that young Korean international in radar anymore? Bolton´s Korean player was very good and the lad was only 20. The one linked to us I mean.

I find it very strange as well. Have never seen him play either, but I've read a lot about him and he is considered a massive talent.

Agree that there are some very interesting players on Policano's list. Much more exciting names than old donkeys such as Benjani and Beattie.

Can't for the life of me see us signing a player such as Vukcevic, though. I bet we end up signing David Weatherall and John Ebbrell on a free, spending all the Benni money on their wages.

Depends too if he's a striker or the striker doesn't it?

Absolutely. If he's a striker then for me it's a no-brainer, we should sign him. Even if he turns out to be a failure, we could probably recoup the cost of his wages for a year with the transfer fee upon selling him.

If he's the striker then I'm a bit worried, although it wouldn't be a disaster if the money was spent on a quality midfielder, because I still think Kalinic is good enough to be the striker.

Agree with every word of that. We could easily sell him in a year or two to a Championship club or back to the SPL if it doesnt work out, at the age of 27/28 he'd still turn us a profit.

Absolutely he could play with Kalinic - Niko is quite similar to Kenny Miller but a much better player, Boyd and Miller are great together.

It would be if he had the work rate to go along with it. Look at Berbatov - all the attributes of a lone striker, but cant play as one.

I can't imagine Boyd's wages would be any more than we've just saved with Reid going. Not an expensive proposition by any stretch of the imagination - and at 26 he still has excellent resale value.

But where does that leave Dunn? since he really doesn't thrive in a 4 man midfield.

For me we need to sign our main targets first, then we see what we can get with the rest. We need a 1st team striker, Niko has great potential but he struggled last year and who's to say it won't continue. Look at the way his head drops when he misses, he's a confidence player for sure. It would be far better all round if we had a main man in front of him, so he's under less pressure and we're not depending on him to score goals.

Instilling work rate in players is far from easy. Your trying to change aspects of their personality, now its not impossible but the saying a leopard never changes it spots does have merit. Benni is a great example of just how hard it can be, look at all the incentives he had this year. Boyd maybe different you never know.

I agree that boyd is worth a look, but not until we get someone who can play the role we need, without trying to influence his personality and character. 20-30K may not be much and may just be Reids wages for next year, however that money for me could be used to chase a bigger more suitable player first. Get in the major target first and then look for the extra's, becuae if we do it the other way round we'll most likely not get what we set out to buy in the first place.

Work rate is one of the attributes of a lone striker, so since berba doesn't have it, is he a player who fits as a lone striker?

Probably injured?

I sincerely hope we arent planning our Summer targets around where Dunny is going to play, great player though he is.

Kris Boyd allegedly wants 18k a week at Rangers, but Rangers cant afford that  due to their financial difficulties so have offered him somewhere between 8k to 12k a week which kind of shows his true value.

Btw, Claudio Pitbull is a forward or he tries to be lol

Moreira is a Benfica goalkeeper that would be a good alternative to Robinson. Same could be said about Quim, Benfica's first gk that is also ending his contract.

Meyong could also be interesting for Rovers.

LOL:P

Well, I found this quote about Boyd

Rangers manager Walter Smith:

"Kris is going. There is no doubt about that now. We have never wanted to admit he would leave but we are doing so now. We've made him an offer but he's getting much higher offers from other clubs and he is going. 'Kris leaves here with the best wishes of every one of us at Rangers. He has been absolutely terrific for this club and his scoring record is second to none."

:glare:

Sounds like Walter Smith cant wait to get shut of Boyd.

Ah, but yet we currently base our whole tactics and formation around him.

Given the success we had with it last year, especially the tail end of the season I wouldn't be changing the way we play for anyone, rather looking for better players to fit into that system in roles we clearly lack.

Striker

Right Midfield/Wing

Left back

In that order of priority.

True but we showed signs that might change to 3-5-2 towards the end of the season....or perhaps the 4-5-1/ 4-3-3 we shoed at Vill away in the cup.

Maji - funny you say those are the priorities yet you are arguing that we should sign Guti or Riquelme who both play in the middle!!?

Im happy with our left back options too - Givet or Olsson can do a decent job thier and we need to concentrate our resources on the striker department. Also very hopeful that Hoilett or perhaps one of the other youth players (Haworth/ Doran) can start putting som epressure on for the right slot.

I agree with Maj, the problem with Olsson slotting in for Givet it means shuffling the whole MF around, having a LB you only change one player positional wise.

Olsson has shown he is becoming a serious threat in attack, we don't want to lose that for any length of time.

As for Doran and any other players being out on loan in the championship/league1/2 this season, they have hardly hit the headlines.

I really do have doubts that they will push for a place any time soon.

We have mostly only needed to play Olsson at left back when Nelsen has been injured and Givet has to move inside. With Jones, and perhaps even Hanley, this is no longer necessary.

The priorities are what I would do if I was in charge.

Sam see's it differently and obviously wants a central player, so I'm suggesting another who fits the bill and matches (if not excede's) Guti, should it go pear-shaped.

Surely that wasn't too difficult to phathom?

67splitscreen - you've hit the nail on the head.

Doran and howarth both need games, they won't get it here next year, loan them out.
