[Archived] Potential Summer Transfers (2010)

Recommended Posts

Andrews was rumoured to have been the subject of a higher bid from fulham last year, surely grella is worth more than keef.

No. Keith stays healthy and can cover multiple positions. Grella keeps the physio staff busy.

The Lancashire Telegraph report that Galatasary are in for Grella and they believe that a fee has nearly been agreed between the two clubs.

Snap their hands off. Yes we paid nearly £4 million for the crock but a £1.8 mill return on a guy who has played only a handful of games in two years is sound business. Of course I'd only agree should Big Sam be given the full funds from the transfer to add to his kitty.

Get the car started Vince.

Can't believe people are still going on about Di Santo.

He was obviously not up to this level, I have no doubt that he will never play at this level.

I await to be proved wrong...

Why? Di Santo showed he's got talent. He was asked with little or no real first team experience at this level to do one of the most difficult roles in the modern game, play up front on his own. Take a look at the approach we took with the other kids we have, Kalinic eased in, Hoillet used sparingly, Olsson was eased in over time. Jones is the only other who was dropped in the deep end but at least he had guidance on the pitch in the form of 4 players around him, Di Santo was all on his lonesome and without support a lot of the time.

Di Santo was given a seriously hard job and given a seriously big leap in difficultly to cope with. Personally I thought he held the ball up well, worked hard and showed some good touches and link-up play. Yes he missed one or two chances, but I just don't think we create good chances in open play at present. I do believe that given different circumstances we will see a different player and he will blossom, perhaps not into a great player but a decent to good one.

Bolton would be a good move for the lad.

Grella, well if they really are willing to pay us 2M or so for him I'd sell him asap. He's proven he's a crock and cannot cope with the intensity of the premiership, I'd be worried he'd breakdown again especially with his style of play. Move the lad on while he can pass a medical as he must be on good wages. 2M and if he's on 35K or so and that means we have the funds for Guti (well for one year at least) and a striker of decent quality and we can start making serious enquiries for the two mentioned on here.

I'm pretty sure this thread is purely for discussing potential summer transfers for Blackburn, and not for discussing/comparing past and present players. Unless I'm mistaken and we are making a bid for Di Santo. It's no wonder we are now onto page 234 of this thread.

This thread, apart from the odd post, is full of c**p. A discussion about the merits of our strikers, while maybe not in the right place is still far more interesting than the "we should sign Adebi Bakadibo, who I have watched on football manager and is a very good player" tripe.

I'm not against selling him but we really need to recoup as much of the money as we can. Should be holding out for £2.5m really.

I believe the fee is £1.8m rising to £2.5m should Vincenzo manage to stay fit for a couple of days.

So, in all probability, that's £1.8m more towards the bottomless pit that is Salgado's wages.

£1.8 - 2m in the bank + £30k a week minimum saved on wages....for a player that has managed 32 appearances (I say that losely) in 2 years...when we already have a 20 year old French man who has just won player of the season!!??

No brainer - Sell! He cost us 4m Euros, we should get back £2m - thats only a loss of about £1m + wages for a player who is now 2 years older & alot more likely to get injured.

4m Euro = 3352179.45 GBP

If we get 1,8 million GBP we will have lost 1.50. A bad deal, but I dont we should aim to be holding out for more.

Im hearing its £2m....

2,000,000.00 GBP = 2,399,521.57 EUR - so like I said, less than £1m loss for a player who is 2 years older.

Don't know how anyone can have a problem with 1.8m for Grella!? I am staggered that anyone wants to buy him at all..... Transfer policy seems to be shaping up. If we can shift Grella and Chimbonda; and get in Guti and Lewadowski I think we would be in a very very good position. After that if there is any money left (which there probably won't be...) we can look at a second more exprienced striker (Beattie?) and a left back but I would be happy with those two out and those two in. Olsson is looking very exciting. Jones looks an excellent talent. If we can add a bit of expeirence and get Kalinic and Hoilett to be more effective with their talent I will be delighted.

Nicko, is Lewandowski still possible?

I think the price and his demands would have to drop for that to come back on...

If Borussia Dortmund can't do the deal it makes me wonder how Rovers could.

Other priorities now anyway. At the moment at least.

I've heard rumours of Roma joining the race and being willing to pay 6 million for him, not sure if it's in GBP or EUR though.

Oh and Priorities as in plural, so that means Guti and another then yeah ? :P

If Grella goes we will be losing a defensive minded battling midfielder, if we can sell him then we should but we will need a similar replacement. N'zonzi is the only really recognised DM in the squad, if he gets a long term injury then who else could play a sitting role? Guti is an attacking minded creative midfielder. I personally think Emerton should be tested there, but i can't see Sam doing so.

We needed a midfielder before we were contemplating selling Grella, if we sell Grella we are going to need two in imo plus a striker or two. Not exactly easy on our budget.

If you get rid of Grella, who has still to have a medical presumably, just accept that piece of good news.

It is just such a huge bonus.

The only concern is that the Turks won't get to give him that medical until after the World Cup...and I don't fancy his chances of coming through that injury-free.

So it is still an anxious wait before that is finalised never mind spending the money.

As an Australian I am more worried about Grella getting sent off rather than injured. There's also a chance he's not going to play all that much, Carl Valeri may be preferred ahead of him in the best XI. Hard to say at this stage but it's close. Pim Verbeek knows Grella is a loose cannon these days.

I think this article sums up most Australians feelings about him at the moment.

Niko do you think Di Santo will join Owen at Bolton

I think Guti would play a deeper role if he came over, like Tugay did. Pedersen and Dunn give us more than adequate cover for the 'in the hole' position.

Need 2 midfielders?? Why? We have over 10 midfield players, and if Nzonzi did get an injury then perhaps Samba or Emerton could do that sitting job.

1 midfielder of quality would make a massive difference, don't see the need for 2.

Sitters: N'zonzi, Keith

box to box: Gamst, Emerton

Hole players: Dunn, Guti

If I was at Rovers I'd pay to fly their medical staff over there asap and get it sorted, before he breaks down warming up again. I hate to thing what wil happen to him if a mosquito bites him in SA.

Just out of curiousity Mr Nicko, when you said previously that the pole is too expensive and we are looking at others are there any new names on our hit list?
