The Lancashire Telegraph reports that Rovers are not prepared to take a gamble on Ledowenski(sp), this is mainly due to his club putting a £4.5 million price tag on his head.

The line we heard recently, from the Telegraph, was that we are likely to go for a more experienced striker.

Would make sense with already having Kalinic, who we hope improves but is still raw.

Still, with our budget, not sure we could bring in who would make a real difference.

BOSELLI...Wigan have agreed a fee of around £5.7 million tonight...they clearly fancy him...I hear he is good...possibly a miss by Rovers but out of the price range byt the sounds and the Rovers scouts have not scouted him as thoroughly as Wigan...could be a good one.

A few Italian sides have him down as a target,so whether there will be a counter bid from one of them is anyone's guess.

Dindane will be on 100k + a week!

40k-50k surely.

Yevhen Konoplyanka

Surely he wouldn't qualify for a work permit.

Anyone else praying for a 3 month long spell of ash cloud?

We'd need it to last for over a year because no doubt Banjeani will surface on our shortlist next summer too if he hasn't joined us by then. We'll need more than volcanic ash to stop Beattie from driving up the M6 though.

The list of potential strikers just gets more depressing every time I see it.

Thats easily done, stick a sign on the M6 saying "free beer and a pie 5 miles" the boy will drive round forever looking for it.

I think we may be being overly harsh on Benjani.

He isn't a world beater but I'd like him at the club as long as he isn a marquee signing for us, ripped us apart last season and would certainly offer more than di santo did.

not happy with the benjani news - i think hes a terrible player and see no point having jason roberts and him in the same team - also the fact he apparntly has dodgy knees i dont see why would want him - i bet he will be earning quite a bit aswell..

also - i know theres rumours of guti coming in - and if this is true i still however think another central midfield is needed - we need one who aint afraid of a tackle and will get stuck in - someone like alan smith would be alright .

Looking at the names linked to us, I think the question is whether we're looking for a first choice, second choice or a third choice striker?

If we're looking for someone who can play immediately and make an impact, none of the targets linked so far inspires and i include the pole and boselli in that assesment as they probably need time to get used to our play. In addition, if we're looking for a first choice striker, where does that leave kalinic if we're going to play with one striker? I like to think that he'll be much better next season.

If we're looking for a 2nd choice striker aka someone who can play in a 4-4-2 or bring something different as as a sub, then i think beattie is a good choice. He'll at least offer an aerial threat and we can stop aiming every single throw-in at Samba.

Benjani is at best a third choice and i think we should only go for him if Roberts leave. After all, we do not need 2 strikers who can't score for nuts.

Benjani is exactly the type of player we could do with at Rovers...Big, Strong, Good in the air and can score goals...whoever is comparing him to Roberts wants their head seeing to...Redknapp and Eriksson have both paid decent money for him and I go with their judgement. At Citeh...even Robinho couldn't take the pressure...Look at whats happened to Roque :rover: ....at Rovers he will score loads...I'd say at least 15 goals.

City lads here at work think he is a decent player, just not got much chance with the players they have bought.

They reckon he'll be a decent signing for us and will be our best striker.

That's quite a good point actually. Redknapp signed because he was recommended to him by Arsene Wenger too.

As a freebie he's worth a punt. He's capable of playing in a wide role too, so basically it looks like he's an alternative to Dindane.

Redknapp paid millions for Titi Camera though

Let's say that Redknapp did probably buy a couple of iffy duds...but as the previous man says....wenger recommended him...we play Benjani's style mate....well worth getting him into rovers...2 years ago he wouldn't have considered us and we would have thought him out of our depth...

I have no problem with him being signed if there's a still another striker in the pipeline and he's more of a depth player. To me he's a slightly better, more versatile version of Roberts and as stated above he can play wide rather than just up front on his own.

Ideally next year we'd have:

Kalinic

X

Benjani

Roberts

Hoilett

Benjani's Career Stat's say otherwise.

What makes you think he could play as a wide man in a front three?

I reckon he could and probably would score goals for us. Taking a look at his record in detail, he HAS scored goals in the Premier League when he's actually played a few games. He's a good shout, probably better than Dindane.

I've seen him nail us a few times....

I'm sure there are plenty of players out there for sale who have scored against Rovers. Its hardly a good argument for signing him.

Micheal Rickett's nailed us a couple of times lets sign him. He even played for England!!!

Dindane at least scored goals recently, Benjani hasn't done it for 3 years, even on loan at Sunderland with the mis-firing and rapidly dropping in stock Jones, he still couldn't cut the mustard. At least Dindane had pace, meaning he could play wide right and up front if needed. Benjani is slow as, I'd rather stick with Roberts as at least he brings other attributes to the table, like pace.

I'd rather have Beattie as well over him. Don't forget Hughes was a master with the front men, great eye for striking talent and getting the best out of them. Did Benjani even get a chance, no. I wonder why, especially since people on here are saying he'd score 15 goals a season?????

05/06 1 goal in 16 games.

06/07 6 goals in 25 games & 6 sub's

07/08 12 goals in 21 games & 2 sub's (pompey) 3 goals in 13 games (city)

08/09 1 goal in 7 games & 1 sub

09/10 1 goal in 2 games & 8 sub's

24 goals in total in 84 games (+17 sub's) and 2 goals in the last 2 years, period.

Roberts sits on 19 goals in 55 games & 44 subs and has actually scored goals in recent times.

He's no better than what we have and will want 30K+ a week, why bother.

Sweet buttery Jesus, you know it's dire straits when people are trying to make a case for Benjani! 31 years old, 4 goals in two years, and a host of injury problems. Even on a free we'd be cheated!!
